The best guitarist EVER? | Megadeth's New Weapon

Музыка

Megadeth's new hired gun Teemu Mantysaari is Dave Mustaine's secret weapon. Could he be the best modern metal guitar player? In order to find out, we'll be watching a solo he played called, WINTER MADNESS. In this solo, Teemu demonstrates a high level of technical proficiency, musicality and compositional ability. Do you think he's even better than Marty Friedman?

That solo is written and also originally played by Jari Mäenpää, the founder of Wintersun. Teemu started playing it as Jari dropped guitar live to focus on singing. He used to play guitar and sing live. I think Teemu is too humble and nice guy to be in Megadeth, so in my opinion he should be a temporary guy.

As good as Teemu is...I want Kiko to come back. As a lifelong fan of Megadeth (i'm 42 and have been listening to them since 89 or 90) and to me, the current lineup with Dave, Dirk, Kiko and James feels like a band. I saw them a couple of months ago and they were incredible. Absolutely incredible. Much better than when I saw them on the Rust Anniversary tour with Broderick. Broderick was great...but a little mechanical. Kiko brought the feel back all of the leads. It would be nice to have Ellefson in the band, but James is the perfect replacement. Not only is he a total pro, but he has been with them before and fits. But yeah, as good as Teemu is, I want Kiko back. When Megadeth calls it a career, I hope that this is the final line. ...If anyone was to leave, I predicted that Dirk would be the first to go. I figured that somethign a little 'busier' would temp him, due to his background. But it seems like he is really enjoying himself in the band. As you can see from my post, I realllly want this lineup to stick together. But Teemu is the perfect temp.

Yeah, and I have never understood people who are saying that if some guitarist, drummer whatever is not as good as some other, they should switch members. It's not about who is the best. Heck in some cases it's not even about being very good (like Kirk and Lars in Metallica). It's all about the chemistry and other things. And that is not to say that Kiko is not good, because he is right there with Teemu, and I can't say who is better. And it doesn't matter, because they both are probably in TOP10 or even 5. I also think that Megadeth has been perfect with Kiko, which I didn't think was possible after Marty (and Menza). They are absolutely as good now as they ever were. Teemu deserved this chance to get some recognition, but even if Kiko decides to quit, I'm not sure if Megadeth is the best possible band for Teemu. If Teemu would join Megadeth, how long will they keep going? He could miss another longer lasting opportunity while being in Megadeth, and after that he starts to get old too.

A player that can think about what he is playing... following the chord progressions, outlining melody lines of the chords he's playing over etc... Maybe we could talk more about that? What backing chords is he playing over here? You mentioned all sorts from modulation to Major and Minor... and then even Diminished. Please explain. Thanks in advance ❤

Nice that you mentioned neoclassical metal Shred👍 I think it is good to know the background a bit better, when analyzing someone`s playing style. Wintersun for example as far as i know has element`s from melodeth, power, folk, neoclassical and symphonic metal at least. One song at least reminds me more of black metal (Eternal darkness). I am not genre expert by no means, but these styles I can recognize. EDIT: I heard wrong, it was "classical training" not neoclassical. But classical mentioned😉

Teemu kicks ass. Period!!! Consider where Teemu is from, Finland, world capitol of metal music for the last 30 plus years! And consider over the same time period, the many metal guitar legends the Finnish metal scene has produced, Teemu being just one of the more recent. I've read where Teemu was influenced from his teen years to this day by the greatest metal guitarist and frontman of the last 25 years, also from Finland! Who is that you may ask? Alexi Laiho (R.I.P), of course. Alexi being the lead guitarist, lead singer, lead composer and founder of the bands Children of Bodom and Sinergy. Children of Bodom, is the greatest melodic death metal band of the last 25 years! Period!!! Also, I've read where both Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman were very aware of Alexi Laiho and respected Alexi greatly as both a lead guitarist and frontman of Children of Bodom. Sinergy was a Finnish metal "super band" founded by Alexi Laiho and also featured one of Alexi's Finnish metal guitar hero's, Finland's legendary lead guitarist Roope Latvala from Finlands legendary, 80's / 90's metal band, Stone. Sinergy also featured Kimberly Goss (USA) lead vocals and legendary Finnish bass player / vocalist Marco Hietala. Marco, also being the frontman / bassist for legendary Finnish metal band Nightwish. Being from Finland, Teemu was likely heavily influenced by the bands Stone, Children of Bodom, Sinergy and etc... Sinergy featuring the insane twin lead guitar playing of Alexi Laiho and Roope Latvala. The (3) Sinergy albums with Alexi's and Roope's twin lead guitars, solid songs and contributions from their fellow band members, resulted in metal music that absolutely stomp's on the Marty Friedman / Jason Becker twin guitars project's from the late1980's / early 90's! Sinergy was quite possibly, the best modern twin lead guitar bands in the history of metal music!!! For starters, I suggest the following from Sinergy, I Spit On Your Grave and Passage To The Fourth World. Unlike Friedman / Becker / Megadeath. Sinergy and Children of Bodom were both true band's of brothers / childhood friends, drunken brother's as we know and also from the metal music capitol of the world, Finland!!! Kalmah, is also another great metal band from Finland and are active in the studio and on tour. kzread.info/dash/bejne/g6arkreOodWaps4.htmlsi=2X7L33ngrKE9q5v- Teemu is still young and Finnish SISU flows through his veins! The metal music world is going to hear a lot of insane guitar playing from Teemu both now and into the future, regardless of whether or not he's playing for Megadeath, Wintersun or some future metal band!!!

Teemu is one of the cleanest dudes I've ever seen but the reality is that nobody knows how good he actually is because he's only known for playing other peoples solos (Jari and the various Megadeth guys).

Nuts! His playing is just beautiful. Sharp, yet smooth... is that a thing? Kirk Hammett would be a wild addition, but yeah if Kiko doesn't return, I think Teemu would be a great addition.

Megadeth has always held it's guitarists to a higher Standard I loved Chris Poland,Jeff Young,And Marty Friedman and after you've had those three you can't help but find guys like Kiko and this guy but let it be said Megadeth has always been more on the progressive side to me. I've kinda Heard Kurt James recommended Poland

I have been a big fan of Teemu since I discovered Wintersun. His band leader at Wintersun is also a monster player. I think Teemu shld be with a newer band and not a band of old hags without disrespect to the great music by Megadeth

I think Teemu is still a part of Wintersun. As they revealed infos about Time II he also did a post about it. So I would say that Megadeth is more like his main band and Wintersun maybe more like a side project now for him.
