Tappara and TPS are rivals because the cities of Turku and Tampere are considered arch enemies to each other. So much tension between the teams :D TPS used to have a dynasty in the early 2000's. Unfortunately they haven't been able to win the cup since 2010

Tappara would be a juicy win now since they’re so successful lately but TPS fans would be rooting for them if they were underdogs against say HIFK or worse yet Jokerit. People in Tampere just don’t get how one sided this so called rivalry is. 😅

@@kanervatie And that's a sad story because Rauman Lukko's main rival is Porin Ässät. No-one has said TPS would be Tappara's main rival. It obviously is Ilves. But the cultural tension and history between Tampere and Turku definitely is a thing.

Turku is Finland's oldest town, founded in ca. 1229. NHL players from TPS include Mikko Rantanen, Rasmus Ristolainen, Antero Niittymäki, Miikka Kiprusoff and Koivu brothers Saku and Mikko. Here's a video from the 1999 finals between HIFK and TPS. Goalies were Miikka Kiprusoff and Tim Thomas. Probably couple other familiar names there too: "TPS - HIFK finaalit 1999".

The team you were pointing in the screen is called Jukurit. They are coached by ex-NHL player called Olli Jokinen. He played over 1200 NHL games.

One of the greatest post game interviews ever by a Finnish player is the one with OJ when he was with the Flames and shared a story about Gretzky and a Big Mac 😂 and those old school Panthers commercials, absolute gems

When you evaluate speed and action, its worth to keep in mind that finnish ice hockey rink is wider than that of NHLs. So ice is quite literally bigger. Its impressive.

been living in Tampere for 6 years now and I gotta say I'm not all too interested in hockey overall, but the Tappara fans are so many and they're always so into it with such level of intensity that i've started to find it rather fun seeing them around so much. It's so great when people have something they're SO into, it's such a nice thing to witness. (even if the rivalry can go a bit overboard at times) Randomly stumbled across your Tampere videos and I'm glad you had so much fun! really entertaining vids too. I'm gonna chime in with many others to say that Tampere is definitely worth visiting in the summer. And I am pretty sure there will always be some hockey games going no matter when you'd book your trip here, lol!

They have some awesome hockey there too. In Stockholm the Globen Arena ( nowdays offically called the Avicii Arena I think) is known by all Finns because that is where Finland won their first ice hockey world championship in the year 1995!

Interestig fact: Costello Hautamäki, who was singing national anthem has composed goal song of Ilves, "We are the kings". Great music.

When I was young hockey players wearing golden helmets felt extra special to me. This was because I opened some hockey cards and the helmets were shiny on the cards as well and looked cool. And like you said its nice to know who is good :D

The golden helmet thing was originally a promotion for the Finnish government betting organisation, but people ended up liking it so much it stayed. I remember back in the 90's thinking that is so silly and I was just a kid back then. But now it is a Liiga staple. "The golden helmet" is also the name of the award for the best player of the season, voted by all players.

The players' award is an older, distinct tradition, not to be confused with the golden sponsor kettels worn by the best scorers (despite the same term). There is also another promo helmet in each team nowadays, for the best-scoring young player. More recent thing and not quite that recognizable, or glaring.

It's really fun to see you guys enjoy yourselves and seeing the arenas and teams treat you well! Great content!

Tim Thomas won the Finnish title and was awarded as the best goalie of the season while in HIFK (1998), his first club & year in the league. Later in Jokerit he set (still unbeaten) records for most wins, shutouts + best sv% in a regular season though.

@@TPacoustic Exactly. Timonen won titles in both TPS and HIFK but is really a KalPa-raised legend and icon, so it's also decent to list him there. Replace Peltonen with Thomas, otherwise a good list (joking, a good list).

Ilves just got knocked out by Kalpa so there goes the chance for the series between us two, game six tonight in Turku and it's not gonna be a easy one, the hardest thing in a seven game series always seems to be to close it out.

FYI. There is a Hotel next to the Nokia Arena called Lapland Hotels Arena. It has rooms with views inside the Arena. You could book one of those rooms and watch the match from your hotel room. At least in theory. Afaik, those rooms are quite popular...

If you get back there see if you can get a room at the Lapland Hotels Arena which is part of the Nokia Arena building and they have rooms that overlook the actual Arena. I stayed there in January and regret not going to one of the games that was on at the time.

Can't believe IFK is still alive!! That would be an epic comeback. I think (although cannot promise), Ivana and I will return to Finland for the finals, with a car, and roadtrip from game to game, watching every game in the series. Tappara vs IFK would be a treat!

My first reaction to the arena is that it's alot nicer and bigger then I expected. But the entrance and concourse areas looked more like an AHL type arena.

Tampere is also the sauna capital of Finland. Rajaportin sauna and Rauhaniemi folk spa is must visit! Also Pispalan Pulteri - restaurant is a classic!

Joined the band a few years after the start. But yeah, Tampere hockey mythology rocker anyway. Popeda's version of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band classic "Tomahawk Kid" ("Mää ja Tapparan mies") is also played in every "Battle Axe" home game after the game attendance count is announced.

tps vs tappara is basically david vs goliath. it would be miracle if tps advance

TPS is one of the biggest clubs in Finland though. Had a bad regular season and are the underdogs in the series of course.

I hope finals are Tappara-Kärpät because in 2014, 2015, 2018 finals rematch and kärpät won all those 3 finals

Kalpa and tps qualified from the wildcar spot (4 wildcard teams face one another for best of 3 series ( we finns call those pity playoffs but not in a rude manner)to get into playoffs) also the teams who place 1st and 2nd in regular season gets to face these so called ”worse” teams. But its playoffs and anything can happen and its so close league that the wildcards have put a great show. Thats how it goes in theory so being 1 and 2 in reg season in theory, gives you easier first round in playoffs. Amazing content btw im tappara fand and hockey romantic as you are but not able to visit games often because of my disability, so im enjoying to see the pov from seats. Tbh i wish you could watch game filmed from the crowd it catches atmosphere much better! I wish you bith all the best. P.s if you ever need to get quick 100k-200k subs visit/mention finland 😂

Visiting Lapland Ylläs ski resort ATM. Finns have Gondola saunas for rent + a public sauna / a huge hot tub for having a break from snowboarding. So much fun 😂

November is equally bad time of a year to visit Finland as March is, though. :'D So better for them to visit in summer to see how beautiful it really is here (or winter or even spring if they want to go to Lapland too).

Game six 4-5 OT win for us so we made it to the semis, gonna play against Kalpa and if the series between Ilves and Kalpa is any indicator we're in for a tough one. Kärpät Oulu is the third team clinching the spot to the semis and they're gonna play against the winner of a game seven between IFK and Pelicans Lahti, IFK has come all the way back from being down three games to none and tied the series up tonight with a 2-1 OT win, only once in the history of the Liiga has a team won the series from being down three games. A hell of a series and TPS really made us work for the series win and gave it their all so respect where it's due, they clearly were the better team on the ice for most of the series but in the end the scoreboard doesn't lie and the right team always moves on.

@@noperkele228But it still quite expensive to send packages some countries like US. The customer has to be ready to pay some extra money for it. Last year I sent one hockey package to one pretty nice doing Hockey KZreadr living in US and the bill for me was way over 100 euros. Sending the package was much more expensive than those things in the box. But I still love to see that Tappara scarf and even that little Tappara puck in his videos among those famous NHL fan products. :)

No Tampere rivalry in the finals as Ilves dropped the ball and Kalpa is first to semis. But there will be great finals as I predict that Tappara will face Oulun Kärpät in there. Some heated finals series between those two in last 20 years and always great hockey. Tho Kärpät will win this year. 😁

19:55 One up that and drink Salmari, (Koskenkorva flavoured with Salmiakki) and watch SM-liiga live. Yeah that's about as Finnish a past time fun can get. Finishing the game with a cold plunge would be the cherry on top.

One the classic problems for Finns has been that we are building so good teams, but then on the hard games are lacking a bit on the individual skills and mentality. The golden helmet has already been here for a while, it also tries to promote the idea of individual competition a bit.
