I went to EMERGENCY in Georgia... (worst travel experience)

One of the worst nightmare while travelling is having an accident or injury.
We had to call 911 (or 112 in Georgia) because Steve suddenly had outrageous pain on his lower back that he couldn't move at all. He went to emergency room. But the healthcare in Georgia was disappointing nonetheless.

I know lots of ppl will give you lots of advice. From the video, I am sure you did not fracture your back, it is called lower back spasm.... super painful. Only thing they'll give you is pain killer, if they give you an injection that is to relax the muscles but will not cure. Now just to lie on your back and rest (might take about 3 to 5 weeks) before you can feel better, it will definately go off. BUT even after you are better...DO NOT CARRY A BACKPACK, Do not carry any heavy load or else it will hurt the healing muscles. LET THE MUSCLES HEAL!!!!!

i think you're right..I was in a similar situation many years ago....doctor said it was slipped disc, but it turned out to be lower back spasm....and it was caused by overexertion during weighlifting. Took me years to fully recover. This is no joke. I do hope in this case, it's not such a severe situation.

Agree 100%, I had it 2 weeks ago. The worst part is getting off the bed. Took muscle relaxer painkillers for a week, and then the pharmacist gave painkillers that were for pain, inflammation, and fever. That helped. I'm going back to him for more. I also did leg exercises mainly swinging legs forward n backwards just to try and release that pinch in lower back.

Steve, do you think in Canada you'd have been attended faster?! I was waiting in the waiting room of the ER at North York hospital with my toddler with a 41C fever, for almost 5 hours!!! The only thing they did was bring her Tylenol, and I was there after hours of administering Tylenol and Advil and her fever wasn't going down! Such a prolonged fever can cause brain damage in small children! I started screaming and threatening them to sue the hospital for gross negligence, and ONLY then a doctor showed up...They realized that I knew what tf I was talking about, and that I wasn't gonna take it. Healthcare unfortunately has become a luxury, and the people who practice in it only want to make money by prescribing drugs not treatment or care...

This can be severe low back muscle spasm or a herniated disc. Imaging done in the ER can be either Xray, CT scan but the most superior test is an MRI. Funny fact in my 15 years working in the ER, I have only seen men come in on ambulance stretchers for this. Women usually walk in. This happened to me during my first year of residency, and i worked bent over for almost 5 months until it resolved on its own. I even got steroid injections in my back that did not work. I am super careful about keeping my core muscles strong now and proper bending and learning how to lift heavy objects.

The medical service is horrific, and they charged you prior? Three hours in and no even pain killers, oh my god i feel the pain. This happened to me as well roughly 2 years ago. The pain was unbearable. It made me not want to be alive, literally. So i had to call an ambulance midnight, and first thing the doc did when i arrived the hospital was to put me on a drip with painkillers, and it’s a life saver. Really related with Steve there, wish him all the best.

hope things have improved since the live stream! once you tweak your back, it's likely to be recurring so you need to be careful when you bend down to pick up heavy objects or twist your back in any swift motion. start doing back stretches daily and if it happens again, warm up your back before getting out of bed - just lay back on bed, lift your feet up and do cycling motions. once your back is warmed up, you might be able to stand and walk a little without feeling like your back is jello. getting blood circulating to the injured area also helps it heal faster so this is where applying heat can help for a faster recovery. you can make a reusable heating pack by getting a bag of salt pellets/dried beans, put it in a canvas bag(or tied up kitchen cloth if in a pinch), and microwaving it for a minute. I saw some recommending acupuncture which is basically helping blood circulate to certain areas of the body so that does help recovery but it won't be an instant fix.

Get well soon. I had the same problem in Sweden, just bend down to carry a box about 5 kg of pork ribs, my whole back locked up. I can even hear the sound when it was 'locking' (slight cracking sound). Can 't move or even turn for about a month. That was the worse pain I've ever felt. Do some physio therapy to strenghten your back. Slight stretches will help to losen up before you get up of bed. I have beenalso doing Tai chi and some Shaolinl Ba Duan Jin Qigong for 2 years helps with muscles and tendons strengthening 5 days a week. Now the problem don't come back anymore,

Just strengthen your hip muscles and your back muscles, might take months or a year of regular exercise and stretches so that you will not have repeat problems. Now that it has happened, your lower back is vulnerable and can easily lock up. But no worry , exercise to build up those muscles. Can search for youtube on exercise to help. Take care and good luck.@@yummemys4608

Got morphine injections and that didn't ease the pain. After a few weeks ended up in surgery and three weeks in hospital, then another 3 months before I was able to walk properly again. Luckily I had very good insurance as the total bill for the doctors, surgery, hospital stay and physiotherapy totaled $186,000. Hope you get taken care of soon.

I wanted to share a bit of my experience with lower back pain, as I know you're going through something similar. I've been dealing with these lower back spasms for years now. The first time it hit me was about 15 years back, during a trip to Chicago. Ever since then, it's been a recurring challenge. My chiropractor advised me to avoid bending and twisting simultaneously, which has been helpful to some extent. However, lately, it seems to be worsening, especially in the mornings. It turns out that the mobility of my hip joints isn't quite where it should be, causing my lower back muscles to work overtime to compensate. In an effort to manage it, I've been religiously doing stretches every morning. There are plenty of exercises out there that target this specific issue, so I've been exploring those too. I just wanted to let you know that I understand what you're going through. I hope you find relief soon. Take good care of yourself.

Unfortunately in Canada you would have waiting 8 hrs to go to secondary waiting room then another 4 hrs for a doctor. Might as well die at home with peace.

I've been the same as u, n I couldn't even stand, I would scream. I ended up having surgery 3xs in 8 months, n I was paralized from the waist down. But time n heat n ice is all u can do till u can see a specialist, unfortunately. Feel better!!
