Hi Everybody! Welcome to my Grilled Cheese Journey! I'm making a Classic Grilled Cheese, I'm veganizing the Inside Out Grilled Cheese by Chef John, and then I'm making it better by using some Vegan Rob's Cheeto Style Dragon Puffs!

My goal at THEE BURGER DUDE is to show vegans and non-vegans alike how easy it is to make delicious and decadent vegan meals. I used to eat a lot of meat and dairy before going vegan, so this channel is aimed at people like myself before going vegan. Additionally, I totally welcome any vegans who might be missing one of their favorite fast food or comfort food meals as well, come on in! I want to show that you can still have burgers, mac n' cheese, fried chick’n and any other kind of comfort food, and that it’s possible with plant-based ingredients.

    Daiya is good now. Really like Miyoko's cheddar slices (but they're hard to get). But my new favorite is Field Roast Chao Cheeze.

    I've never had Daiya's sliced cheese but Chao's cayenne cheese is freaking good. That grilled cheese looks amazing!

    Ha! This was great, TBD. 2 quick things... Daiya may be improved but they’ve shrunken the weight from 12oz down to 7oz and the price has remained the same🤬. I find an important part of my life with grilled cheese is a heavy cast iron weight. And then there’s actually a 3rd item- you’re rockin this whole KZread thing. 😎

    Yeah they do! I like the Vegan Rob's better though, way more flavor. I probably should've mentioned that haha. And yes, I love experimenting on camera, as long as there's something useful at the end of course!

    Lol that's exactly what I said - it's totally unfair that the UK has vegan cheetos! I need to try them, because I did not like Rob's at all. I do like Hippeas nacho vibes flavor, so I could try them if I don't like the Cheetos. I love the idea of that on the outside of the bread!

    There’s an online market called Thrive that has the most amazing “vegan Cheetos” I’ve had yet. They’re nacho flavor…so they have the texture of Planters cheese balls & the flavor of Doritos. They’re bonkers! Not sure if they’re sold anywhere else or if they’re exclusive to Thrive.

    @@PacDork After you mentioned that I tried it out and the chips are super good! I feel like Thrive is sorta limited in their vegan selection overall though. Difficult to justify the membership fee just for the chips.

    When I saw the title of this video, I said “cheese sauce”! Yep, makes the best grilled cheese! 👌🏻 I usually like to use two different flavors...always American or cheddar with maybe Mozzarella or smoked Provolone...or go all white with a Mozz and Gouda... Now my stomach is growling...need to make a sammich! 😁

    I do the inside out grilled cheeze with Hummus on the inside. It's so great! I crack some HEB garlic pepper into the pan while the butter melts then slap that vegan cheese right on top of the toasted spices then add the bread with hummus side up on top of that once it gets melty. My husband BEGS me to make them.

    👏🤤 Every last one of them!!! It's great to see you trying to figure the best method to get that all too elusive vegan cheese pull/stranding. Vegan food science has progressed so far in the past few years. Once they get vegan cheese to behave just like dairy cheese (firmer cell structure/pull/stranding/etc) it will be a mind and game changer. That Artesano bread is CHOICE! You may also like "Nature's Own™ Perfectly Crafted" breads. Their white, wheat, and multi grain breads are always soft, thick, and vegan. They make a GREAT PB&J sandwich. Very close to the Artesano breads in my opinion. My personal grilled cheese preference: Sourdough bread slices, vegan butter, a touch of garlic powder, Daiya™ Provolone and American slices, and black pepper. It's such a great combo.

    Herm’s - a local restaurant in Logan, Utah - has an inside out grilled cheese that has black beans, guacamole, and hot sauce on the inside; I’m going to try to use this recipe to recreate that.

    Grilled cheese was the first thing my taught me to make. She passed when I was 11 (41 years ago), so these sandwiches hold a special place in my heart. I’m going to try this!!     I love the new daiya cheddar slices. They have really stepped it up. Also maybe you’d get a better cheeze pull if you don’t slice the bread and just pull it apart? Maybe? Lol idk

    I think the stores near me JUST started carrying the American daiya slices. I never even liked America cheese but those have been my favourite lately. Especially for burgers or grilled cheese.

    Trick for the slices for next time, pour the sodium citrate goo onto a rimmed baking tray. That way you'll have a flat sheet to slice into slices.

    Genius hack at the end! I'm wondering, did you do any experiments under the grill of an oven? Perhaps the cheese would melt more readily thanks to the oven retaining the heat all around the sandwich...

    The secret to cheese pulls in commercials is this. They make the item, cut it, add more cheese and melt again. This way they arent cutting through the cheese before the pull.

    I really don't get grilled cheese. If I'm lazy and don't wanna cook, I can just have a slice of bread with cheese, not spend 15 mins in the kitchen, making a slightly burned slice of bread.

    Here's a lifehack. Shove two pieces of toast in the same toaster slit, they get crispy on the outside, but stay soft on the inside.

    I like to use wayfare cheese spread on my grilled cheese or for any cheese sauce it by far the best ive ever tried and since its a pread its amazing on grilled cheese good tase and texture

    Yeah, poor Daiya, they still are not my most fave, but they aren't too bad either! I use that brand as well as Follow Your Heart, I love their Gouda, it is pretty darn Gouda, lol! This was another fun video, thank you!!

    Have you ever tried adding carrageenan when making the cheese slices? That's what Modernist Cuisine adds to theirs along with sodium citrate. They use iota carrageenan and kappa carrageenan. These are supposed to stabilize it better.

    I love all the experimenting! I haven't had grilled cheese since I was about 5 years old. I've not tried the new cheeses available. I know next month (May 2021) the new Beyond Burger is debuting; If you try it, I'd love to see your review. thanks for sharing ;^)

    I only put up with Daiya all the years cause it was my only option. Now I love/prefer Follow Your Heart. Violife is good but B vitamins don’t agree with me. Good Planet has some yummy garlic and herb slices!

    When I make vegan grilled cheese I actually press down the grilled cheese ad it cooks. Also Try adding a cheddar cheese and a smoked one and wow it's good. Also if you can add a piece of thinly sliced deli style "meat" it can also give it some other flavors. Also pushing down on the bread a bit while cooking it will make it where the bread doesn't really slide off or come off as you lift it. Also Loving this channel a lot. Thank Sauce Stache lol :-)

    A for effort on the cheese sauce frozen slice blob but you basically made Velveeta cheese sauce, which is amazing alone, but not on/in a grilled cheese.

    I'm not vegan nor vegetarian, I'm not even pescetarian, but I accepted sort of a vegan diet...I can't have bread, just fruits and vegetables and water or natural fruit juice. I came here for the best melting vegan cheese. All that being said, I like using straight up olive oil instead of butter on my real grilled cheese. Cheers

    I mix a violife mozzarella shredd with any vegan slice you prefer, but chao melts nicer follow yor heart gouda tasted the best. Either way the pull is there. Enjoy. Best videos.

    In my experience it gives a really nice crust, the hot air is great for melting the cheese, plus it’s super easy

    One has to make sure to read the ingredient list on bread. An ingredient called L-cystine, used as a dough conditioner, is often sourced from duck feathers.

    The way they get a cheese pull for photos is usually a cheat They grill the toast cut it and then they add an unsliced piece of cheese to pull I love your videos!

    I would try adding agar agar or kappa carrageenan so the cheese melts but doesn't turn back into a sauce

    Tapioca starch in the runny cheese would provide just enough rigidity that it should switch from runny to stretchy.

    My favorite vegan butter is earth balance, I literally can’t taste any difference 🤷‍♀️ I also really love the FYH smoked Gouda slices, really yummy on a basic veggie or tofurkey sandwich or burger. Goes really well with other cheese flavors, too! ✌️

    I'm a big fan but I have to say that flavour is actually spelt this way with a 'u' it is only in America that it's spelt 'flavor' it's like aluminium is aluminum (USA) and nuclear is nucular (USA). I'm being difficult I know but I love your work! All the best 👍

    do you know if reducing the amount of sodium citrate used can make the cheese firm up more? maybe adding some agar agar would make it more "american cheese-like" ? im going to try it but let me know if you tried it already or not! i work in a vegan restaurant and im trying to come up with a recipe for grilled cheese that gets that familiar/comfortable grilled cheese vibe everyone wants, hoping i can make it a special lol

    It doesn’t look like you’ve tried adding vital wheat gluten. It makes everything stretchy. Try starting out with just one tablespoon to your single serving of homemade cheese at liquid form or melt down a store bought cheese and add the VWG 👍🏽

    For an 8 oz bag of shreds, 4 oz water and 1/2 tsp sodium citrate

    Microwave the sandwich then grill it on both sides it'll be really melty and not feel microwaved at all.

    Have you tried the Violife brand of vegan cheeses and cream cheese, it's the best I've ever had, I've been vegan for 20 years, :)

    No he lies. Proof? Try this instead: grilled cheese grill makes it the best, use sunbeam texas giant bread, thin layer of follow your heart mayo inside sandwich , follow your heart American Cheese, thin layer of earth balance organic butter on corners of outer sandwich to toast. Then press and heaven is unleashed. So real, it’s insane.
