I always run Friesland when my friends go carrier. 5.4km Concealment, 7km AA range that deals around 500 average damage. Super scary stuff

It's the only ship that when I play I beg for carriers in the match so I can bully them 😂 I have swapped my Jerzy build to the one you are using for a few months now and Helfrich seems to be better imo. Only difference I had from yours is that I picked "Fortified" as the row 3 skill for a bit more health and survivability. Great video and very informative for those that are still deciding to pick this ship or happens to go against it as well.

I just got this the other night. It was during the "buff" of the carriers and i was being stalked and pummeled by the CV on my very first outing with this DD. If the CV was going to stalk me for the whole game I am not going to last long, so I thought I would go on a suicide mission to the back of the red side and at least have a crack at the CV. I couldn't believe my luck that I made it all the way around, got to withing sonar range of the CV and popped the smoke. I managed to DAK DAK him to death and actually survived the game with a clear sky medal. I you get this game, make sure you get it with "Fries".

Just picked this up at Christmas, my first Gxp ship ! A very fun boat but the learning curve is steep, need to pick my fights better. Can’t just go full Rambo 😂

Yes, it is definitely different. Cruisers and battleships can be a bit more fearless and charge your smoke screen because there is no fear of torpedoes. When you are in Friesland your priorities should be to hunt other DD's, spot and cap. After you take care of these items, you can focus on farming BB'S for damage. And btw, don't sleep on the AP when finding a broadside cruiser or BB. AP can be very effective on this ship.

Derka! After watching your video, I revisited the ship. Back then, when it came out, I felt the downsides much more than I do now, reason for which is probably that I am a more mature player these days. Gotta say: I love her now. Agreed 100% one of my most played ships. Different build but still. Probably best gxp ship.

I might save up for Friesland as my next GXP ship. I bought Hayate last and I’m loving it. I’ve gotten several witherers in Hayate with a gunboat build.

Another thing to pay attention to: When fighting an Akizuki/Kitakaze, Do NOT get cocky and show broadside because you will eat full-pens AP from a smart commander, and your HE dpm won't match that. I've melted down so many Friesland like that 😂

Swirski and reload booster is viable imo - but when i have the resources I'll be interested to try Conrad with range mod and extra fire. Currently I'm dumping everything into getting Vermont ASAP

Its actually my first gxp ship and I just love it: its litterally OP

Solid choice

You make this look easy, I struggle with this ship ESPECIALLY in smoke. I smoke up and loose visual… with teamwork not always reliable, I’ve had too many situations where the smoke is a hindrance, not a game winning tool.

We've all smoked up only to realize we were the one spotting, it defo happens. Just takes some good map awareness, amd with range on thus thing don't be afraid to shoot from open water, you can Prop juke really well

I have reconsidered. I once hated this ship. In a match with carriers, however, it shoots down planes I don't even see. Five at the time.

I always put speed for inspiration and with no sonar, closest ship indicator is a must along with MBR

Since we have Maerker in the game, i always laugh when i came across Friesland. A proper Maerker setup can end Frieslands life in 3-4 salvos with AP. (But of course it depends on both players.) Btw i think Loyang is still a better choice if we want sonar. Bigger sonar range and just in case torpedoes. Friesland was nice back in the day, just like Jean Bart, but their days are numbered. Sorry, this is my own opinion and I don't want to ruin Friesland for anyone. Nice video as always! Keep up the good work!

GJ good, Friesland is a lot better tho as a universal DD (AA, sonar, maneuverability, speed, conceal, etc) at least imo. If I wanna bully out some solo wins, this thing is my number 1 pick

Amazing to grind on true!

I do love Friesland, but I was surprised to find how easily dealt with she is when up against the Maerker. Every time I’ve personally run into one with my Maerker, I eat the thing alive. It only takes three or four salvos and the dude is a sinking wreck. The ap pens on her chonk, and most of her shells just shatter on the Maerker’s armor.

And the best is when the Friesland starts to turn away and that gives opportunity for the Maerker AP shells to do full pen dmg. 😅 Maerker is one of the best DDs out there at T7 at the moment and she's Tech Tree... But of course, have to play it according to her capabilities.

@@daschist1946 Yes, same here. Somehow every incoming shell breaks the Maerkers engine... Typical Wargaming... 🤦🏻‍♂️ I have to use the skill unstoppable with Erich Bey to stay in "the party" longer. By the way, this engine breaking period is true to almost every new DD in game. 😐

yup, a strong ship in right hands with a bit of luck in mm. my record on ps4 with it is 241k dmg and thats a huge score when u think its only guns 😅 , btw i dont have maxed out capts but now im at 1,4 sec reload just if any1 wants to know how fast it can shoot... propably 1.3-1.2 with all maxed out

I am still deciding between the friesland and the champagne, I still think that I will take the champagne for the different playstyle, stil waiting for the champagne video

Im at 734 k but the first ship im going to get is massachusetts but this ship is probably 2nd because as you said all m’y pan European commanders are all legendary lvl 1 and lvl 1 well besides Jerzy he’s lvl 11 legendary lvl 0 but i use him has inspiration for my Japanese torp boats

Hot take - Maerker’s best trait is its HP pool/concealment. Allows u to pull up on DDs at 5.5-6 km with 25 mm of armor and 30k health with Simms

I’ve always struggled in 1v1s with Friesland. I go really well with my us destroyers and z-35 but Friesland I lose more 1v1s than I win. 😅

Paulo is kind of a one trick pony that has average at best guns with lethal, but short range torpedos. Republique is a 17in armed monster with a 18 second reload... can be a bit unwieldy but its not one for brawling.

Republique pound for pound is prolly the best Tier 8 BB. But it's also twice as expensive for GXP

I don't know, I eat Friesland for breakfast with just my Z35 (5km sonar, smoke and torpedoes). With Loyang it's even easier. When the enemy tries to get closer, 4.4km, he takes a torpedo from the mouth and I just finish the job.

No if you click the "aim" button it literally will aim almost exactly where the shells need to go on Legends. It's stupid powerful

The one ship that carriers universally fear lol. I find it much harder to carry without Torps and being 100% solo player, that’s a deal breaker. I leave it in port these days. That said, I can see where it would be a beast when coupled with a carrier and a good CA or BB in a div.

Friesland is lowest damage DD at tier 7, but my highest xp too beside Kirisame (wich got less than 20 games) that's kinda fun isn't it, but it wouldn't be my 1st pick as a Gxp ship, as its not the easiest to play if you're not used to DDs, but man its the best at daka

I disagree about the reload buff. Although it only equates to a few tenths of a second, it is better to think of it as a DPM buff. Makes for much better exchanges with gunboats and makes farming and burning down battleships a breeze. Swirski with observant rage, reaching out, and main battery mod is crazy (233,333 base DPM x 0.18 = 42,000 more DPM!)

Ya, I've been been using Helfrich too. It should be around a 25% FPM increase, I just miss the perceptive/twist and track directional indicator and DPM/stealth of Swirski@@DerkaGames

If you're a good DD player, Friesland is an amazing grinding boat. Avg games = 500-600k silver per match

A low health Freeze is just kinda useless as a DD, and BB's can easily push your team Loyang > Freeze

Had to come back to this ship after testing, and this ship is only good for carrier matches, any good gunboat can outplay you and akizuki can still out dps a friesland, ended up killing all frieslands in my akizuki with AP spare 8k health and torps to save for battleships Just my take, i still love the ship, but akizuki is much better imo

It's the only DD that you will love on your team or the potato using it will get wiped within the 1st minute.

Okay, hear me out… I go with Swirski with mortar and reaching out. I have 6 km detection but it absolutely shreds any destroyer. I’ll change it every once in awhile because going against Yudachis with 4.6 km detection is just ridiculous but it’s definitely funny to kill destroyers in about 15 seconds.

Not truly my kind of playstyle for a free dd. Even 5 years of experience i am still the goofiest potato when i sail a dd, im not having fun at all so. I avoid playing them and play safe in my bb and tank for the team and push. Never count on me in a dd. It'll never end well.😂

I have to beg to differ. Loyang is better by far. The stealth sonar with detect at 5.2 and sonar at 5.4, the torp module, the smoke, the guns, the great maneuverability. Loyang simply has a higher carry potential. I love Friesland, but it's gimmicky. Theres a reason I have a 78% wr in loyang and 71% in friesland. At this point I usually only take friesland out of I'm in a div with a CV.

Whether or not it is better is subjective. Loyang is an up tiered benson. Its guns are also inferior. Nearly double the reload with just over half the fire chance. The only thing it has going for it is its maneuverability and slightly better sonar it may be better for you but it is definitely not "far better" .
