    I've had the HÅG Capisco at work for more than 5 years now. I'm using it together with a sit/stand desk which is a killer combo. Never had any back problems, not even after an 18 hour stretch. Great chair!

    I sit in an open landscape office, and one of the art directors is super strict with the interior design, especially with the chairs. So we are all rocking black chairs! But I have a head rest on my chair, so it's not super practical to turn it around and sit that way.

  • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    That's why I didn't want the head rest but you can take it off. All you need is the right Allen Key ;) Your AD probably won't even notice right away and even if he does, he can't say a thing if you say it's for posture/health reasons!

" Ergonomics" is a word to make a product more marketable but makes my job very difficult; I get a lot of free products to give reviews (once got a pressure cooker to give an "Ergonomic" review on it ;) (not cool, not cool)). Just a heads up, if you can, try the chair out before you buy. I'm a relatively healthy person and after just 2 days of using it I was getting sharp back paint, headaches and my butt was hurting. Returning it was a nightmare, support is terrible and even though it was causing me pain, they charged me well over $300 to return it. Something to keep in mind.

    That chair looks awesome, i've been having back and arm problems( slight pain from bad postures and bad chairs that are leaned backwards) when drawing on my intuos wacom tablet these last couple of years, the thing i am looking for in a chair is a forward tilt in the seat for leaning forward and the only chair that i found that has that is a kneeling chair.

    Yes but here is the thing, you can also sit on that chair like a regular chair, and if the seat is rotated too far forward you can rotate it back.I was also thinking of getting maybe a pillow on my regular chair to rotate the pelvis forward more, if you take a look at the spine it was designed to stand and having a forward tilt in the seat sets the spine to be like standing.

    Hi Lawrence, what about the harmstrings? I have tight harmstrings and I am considering this chair instead of "normal" ergonomic chairs because of the different saddle, and the fact that you have support more with the butt/feet than the harmstrings. What do you think about it? thanks

  • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    Sorry David. I thought I answered this one but it must not have actually uploaded my answer... strange. This is a very firm seat. Which is good and you should be moving around and finding new positions. The strange position I sit in with my legs over the arms looks funny but that is a great position for the hamstrings as it stretches them out. I found it really helps with sore legs. Hope that helps! Wow, I've been looking for a good chair for a while, and just stumbled onto this vid. This looks like exactly what I need, the ability to lean forward while drawing makes it perfect. I ordered the flat seat model, so my legs won't be split on a saddle-like seat. It seems to be better for me to keep my legs together in order to sit up straight, and then flip it around for the saddle position. It was strangely hard to find this one in the states though. The "Puls" is widely available, and looks cool, but it's vinyl and doesn't look as comfortable to be sitting for hours and hours, as it the comic artist's life. Thanks for posting!

    It's the same shape but it's a very different chair. The internal frame, padding, Norwegian wool and bespoke fabrics. I've got both in the studio at the moment and you can feel the difference between the two. With some brands it comes down to real leather and faux leather but not in this case. Really happy with both in different ways. Which height option did you go for?

  • @JacobHalton

    @JacobHalton

    6 жыл бұрын

    I got the medium height because I'm fairly tall (6'1" / 185.42 centimeters) and have a stand/sit desk, so when I used a measuring tape it seemed that this one gave a good range between regular sitting and low bar stool height. The small seemed too short, and the tall was more like a high drafting stool. I'm hoping that'll be the right height. Looks like you have the smaller height?

    Sitting on it right now. Still looks brand new. I'm surprised how well it has held up. And it is my 5 yr olds favourite chair as well - really strange! He likes to spin in it. I'm 5,11". I was 6 foot until I broke my back a couple of years ago (which totally sucks!!!). Who knew you could loose height :( I don't have the foot rail version. I have the standard version with wheels that just has the little grips over the wheels. I do put my feet on those occasionally but often they are flay on the floor. I move around a lot to stop myself from getting too stiff (it's an old mann thing). I like the foot ring but You can only have that if you get the taller version of the chair. I couldn't get that because if I did the chair wouldn't go under my desk - that's important!!! Hope that all helps! I did review the other version of this chair which is slightly cheaper. I have had to tighten up the back support a couple of times but that's probably due to the fact that I lean on it a lot! None of the paint has chipped off the base and the gas lift is fine! It's also the favourite chair of my 3yr old (over a normal gaming chair) which also took me by surprise! Overall, more of a winner than I thought originally - DOUBLE THUMBS UP!!

I've had the chair for a couple months now and I gotta say, I don't think it's working for me at all, infact I think I seem to have damaged my shoulder because of it! I think due to the lack of arm rests (for a good reason since thats how you sit backwards on it after all) my right shoulder, which I draw work, came under a lot of strain from having to support my arm the whole day while working. I haven't seen anyone else with this issue and have seen nothing but satisfied folk so I wanted to pop in here and ask if using this while doing artwork over time caused you any shoulder pain/strain?

I’ve done a bit of experimentation in the past few months with this chair and found the shoulder injury wasn’t due to the lack of arm rests. I had an emergency hernia surgery 2 years ago and sitting on a normal chair isn't working for me. I also think that most chairs are designed for a completely different type of work. Artists and designers especially those that are using tablets tend to need to lean forward. It's a completely different setup. I'm 51 and I work in front of a computer all day. I'm on a l-shaped desk with my graphic design layout on one side and the other part of the "L" holds my Cintiq 24 HD. I'm revamping my work layout for productivity and health. (I myself am just 5'4) thank you for this very informative review by the way!

  • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    This has padding and the pulse dose not. That is the main difference. If you want comfort and intend on sitting for longer than go for the standard Capisco. As for height - that is very personal. It depends on your height and the height of your desk. You need something that can still go under your desk. Although you should get a decent standing mat too so you are not sitting all the time.

    So people are willing to spend a thousand bucks (or two... or three... or more) on the computer... maybe another couple hundred on the tablet (even a couple of thousands if you go for a cintiq). But hey! A 1k chair! the horror! If you are an artist you sit most of the time. The quality of the product in which you sit should be your main priority. Even more so, if not at the same level than the hardware and software you use to work. That´s not to say that good posture can be achieved sitting on a wooden stool. But a GOOD chair will ensure that even after hours, when your muscles start to give, you will maintain a good position. This is directly related to your health and quality of life. you should build your workspace around your chair. Still most people just leave it as an afterthought, a gap to fill when all else is done.

    Man, I enjoy your videos! Thanks for making them! I originally bought my cintiq after watching your reviews :) Been looking at other options outside Wacom recently, but hey, at the end of the day, in this niche, they are the best. And just sold my Cintiq 27 QHD Touch (two days ago actually) just to wait for the 32 4k model. I guessed I could work a bit with the intuos until it releases. Rather sell it now than then, it will surely see a steep price drop and I would not be able to get a good deal for it. Had a bit of a coming and going by mail with Wacom btw. So... unluckily they will apparently continue with this model of selling a stand apart. They will release a ergo 2.0 to go with em... I hate that they don´t come with the product, for the price they are asking, and it being mandatory to use these tablets, it should be part of the whole.

  • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    I think you did the right thing to sell now. Prices will drop more on 2nd hand units. I'm kind of glad that the ErgoStands don't come with the Wacom tablets, especially because I think the prices would be higher or the stands would be lower quality. I prefer my Ergotron arm every time! You should think about it next time yourself. They are great :o

  • @matiasarturopanamoedo644

    @matiasarturopanamoedo644

    Really? you think the ergotron arm is a better option. I really pondered about it before punchasing the Ergo Stand. While the full mobility and flexibility of the arm was great. It looked a bit "wobbly"... Can you put your weight on the tablet while drawing? The ergo standhad that rigid feel to it. I could lean on the thing like it was a traditional drawing board.

  • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    7 жыл бұрын

    Firstly, don't lean on your tablet. It's not great for your tablet. That's how tablets get broken. lol. Second (didn't really need to add second. lol), the Ergotron is steady as a rock as long as you get the right one. Plenty of people buy the wrong one in order to save cash, or they just don't do the research or simply buy an alternative cheap brand. You've got to get the arm that is capable of holding both the size and the weight of your tablet. When you lean on it, that's additional weight. You have to adjust the way you work but you get so much more flexibility in return. The stands are okay but never being able to rotate my tablet again is something I couldn't go back to... in the same way I couldn't go back to drawing with a mouse. It's that kind of serious for me and I've talked to others about this (just to check I wasn't going weird) and most I've talked to agreed they couldn't go back to a stand after an Ergotron arm. I think the only way is if a new type of stand was developed. I'm not closed minded, I just need that functionality.

    Got a adjustable desk and plan on doing a cutout top on it so the elbows stay flat on the desk when drawing and now after doing research for about 2 weeks on ergonomics and best chairs available, i've discovered a few options that are cheaper than the Hag. The Salli Saddle seat( a lot of dentists and creatives seem to be using this chair as it keeps the spine in a neutral posture just like standing, also has an option with movable arm rests and back rest), the Tatsoul tatoo seat( there are multiple versions of these, one even has arm rests for drawing and you can sit in it in reverse just like the Hag), the Alera Elusion Multifunction chair with forward tilt, The Sleefkorm rocking kneeling chair( you always have to keep you're balance with this), The Human tool ( a ball with a saddle seat that can be placed on any poorly designed seat and keeps the spine in a neutral posture by keeping you're balance). There are a few others but most of them are similar just slightly different designs.

  • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Tania, my knees were always fine but as you can see in this video I strongly recommend that you change position every 20 minutes or so. One of the worst things you can do is to sit still all day in the same position. I do also recommend a daily walk too to many of my fellow artists as I know they need the fresh air and a minimum of 30 mins basic exercise away from their desk. haha. I do enjoy a foot-rest and also a standing matt as well which both help as I move around. This is another reason why I use Ergotron arms for my tablets & monitors. I can stand and carry on working in alternative positions. I've got a few videos in my 'Ergonomics for Artists' playlist which might be helpful. I do wonder if the height of the chair is right for you? If it is too high then it might add to any knee problems perhaps. Especially if your foot is hanging freely and not resting on the floor. Obviously I am assuming a lot here. Which height did you go for and does it have the foot rest ring attached? Hope that helps.

    The price is worth every penny when you put it against your health and the damage artists face years down the line with back and neck trauma. It can be easy to shrug it off when you're younger but you certainly feel it as you grow a little older and spending that extra money on a good chair that will also last is wort it in my opinion. A good monitor arm like the Ergotron also helps, especially with desk height and giving you the ability to move around and change seating position throughout the day. I work in this chair all day long, 7 days a week most of the time. Some times I stand, sometimes I sit on the edge of my desk and sometimes I might go downstairs with the family and watch a movie to unwind from the stresses of YT trolls but this chair keeps my back in good shape ;)

    If you try to sit in one position all day then you are doing it wrong and that is their problem. The whole point to buying a great ergonomic chair like this is that you are going to use it properly and move around in it like I show you here - maybe not as much but at least every couple of hours. Lawrence Mann That’s a great question! I think if you look at the chair as a long term investment - the way you would invest in a bed - one could argue that the price is relative to the benefits it has for your posture. My problem is its a lot to drop on a chair - albeit a beautiful chair - I have not seen anything comparable to the Capisco which makes it even harder to compare value. I genuinely clicked the link with intention to buy it, and braced myself that it was probably going to be pricier than the task chairs I was browsing, and it was double what I was expecting! :-) So I guess $400-$425 was the range, I think - for me that’s the high-end that would still be realistic. p.s. your video REALLY made me want this chair too

  • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    Fair enough. We spend 6 -8 hrs in a bed. Maybe more each day in a chair though. It's the chair that can end up giving you serious back and neck trouble. You can't change the mattress and you might have the chair just as long as the bed. Does all that sound about right to you? If so then I'd say $400 is quite low. Although when I started looking at chairs, I entered into it with the same amount in mind. Truth is that when I looked at other chairs it quickly became clear that the competition just wasn't up to standard. When I thought about the importance of my own body and health... $799 didn't seem too bad as long as it lasts.

    @@LAWRENCEcanDRAW Really good points! btw - I just discovered your OTHER video for the Capisco Puls at $599 - a bit of a savings - I think the more I am thinking about it $799 isn't really that bad - it just means I have to save up for it vs being able to buy now. I just know I will regret getting a cheap chair now that I have seen this. I paint miniatures for fantasy/sci-fi games and the thought of being cradled by the "hand" of the Capisco chair is really appealing vs the stool I am sitting in now - my back hurts now just typing this!

    I spent 6 months on that road to discovery. You see now that it's a strange one you never thought you'd end up on. The chair before that cost me 300 and lasted 3 years. the foe leather started to peal off. That is a chair that I constantly see used on TV in chat shows on panel shows too. It looks nice but :( not great. This Capisco has a good guarantee. I'll have this longer than my bed I think. The Capisco Puls is good. I still prefer the padded Capisco. I sit for longer hours though. I broke my spine a couple of years ago and I have to say that the chair really helped as a part of making sure I could get back to work. Luckily I take Ergonomics very seriously.

    4:15 Actually, this kneeling chair + a flat Tempur seat cushion on the seat + a Tempur legspacer on the knee pad = a chair you can sit in all day (though you probably shouldn't) without your body giving you signals that you need to change positions (the Tempur cushions are essential for blood flow and comfort here). It's a hack, but also basically the Holy Grail of ergonomics and long-lasting comfort while working. You can actually also turn it around like the Hag and use the knee pad as a seat and the conventional seat as an elbow/arm rest if you want to switch it up. Someone should make a reverse chair with both chest AND knee rests, so that the force of gravity is divided between chest, seat and knees. Because why wouldn't you?

  • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    4 жыл бұрын

    Personally I'm not a fan of kneeling chairs. Not as an artist. Sometimes I want to lean forwards, sometimes I want to lean back and those chairs, like stools, just scream 'sit up straight' at you. Great ergonomically but not for someone who spends up to 16 hrs a day at their desk. At the moment I am on the hunt for the best foot rest. You won't need that at least with your kneeling chair but that is something I want badly. Something awesome to rest my feet on. Maybe something that rocks gently. Maybe something textured.

    I was an Art Director & Creative Director at an ad' agency for years so knowing how to market products is a fun challenge to me. I never thought I'd do it on KZread but the product reviews for Digital Artists often get more views than tutorials - I thinks because there are so many artists on YT but most test reviews of tablets etc are done by people who couple draw a stick man. haha. It's all good fun and to me I've always enjoyed beta-testing for software & hardware companies anyway so this all feels like I'm doing my bit to help the improve the sphere of digital art for everyone.

    I'm still gonna knock out tutorials when I can! It's good to be an artist reviewing tech for other artists though. I just review from the point-of-view that I want to hear. There's loads of questions that I think of when I first learn about that latest thing so often I right it down. People can check websites for specs which is why I try to keep a strong eye on the experience. I do find spec' related reviews a bit dull and they work better in blog format than in video. Let me know if there's anything you especially want to see reviewed. It's always good to catch me on Twitter @LAWRENCEcanDRAW about tech you'd like me to review for artists :D

    How much is serious back pain worth to you? As a professional artist working 5-7 days a week for up to 17hrs on some days it's majorly important. Lots of artists suffer from this. Take it seriously now and spend the extra cash (that as a pro' you can right off against your taxes) or suffer down the line. If you are not a pro then don't worry too much. But if you are a professional then you can afford it because you are working. If you still can't afford it as a pro' then you are doing something wrong. It sounds tough but it's your health and you have to be tough to survive in this game.

    Fair enough if you don't fancy spending that but I haven't managed to find a good ergonomic chair for artists at a low price. This is roughly the average for a good seat and it is ergonomic, it ticks all 5 things off my list, the wool fabric is fantastic , it has a 10yr guarantee from HÅG and is extremely well made. I've been through all kinds of chairs ranging from cheap to mid-range and the cheap ones normally last about a year and will actually do damage to tour back and most of the others are just basic chairs with extra padding or better quality leather that cost a bit more. Something is only worth what you're willing to pay for it at the end of the day but I think your health is worth $799 every decade or so. Sound a bit better from that point of view? Quick question; how much would you pay for this chair?

    LAWRENCEcanDRAW I actually have a drafting chair, it's a no name I got on eBay. It came along with a stool. The arms are removable and the material is great for long term use. • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    @LAWRENCEcanDRAW

    So it probably cost it's original owner a lot more than $200 then. It might come from a well known manufacture or it might not - many don't put their brand anywhere you'd see it. But my point about this chair still stands; I wanted an ergonomic chair. One that supports me while I draw. A draftsman's chair doesn't do that (Draftsman's chair is a wide term given the amount of different designs out there though). There's no back support if you lean forwards as I constantly find myself doing at the drawing tablet. The HÅG Capisco design supports the type of movements that we as digital artists usually make at our desks. I didn't want the Capisco because I thought the design was nice. Sure that's an added bonus but I wanted a chair that looked after me because I use it every day of the week. That's where your money goes.

You're not supposed to sit still in one place all day. I do stand up and move around constantly. You should. It's bad to sit down or even stand up all day in the same position. Bun this chair has various positions to sit in and that's what I love about it and that's why it's so good for artists like us! Especially using tablets. I don't see how this chair is possibly comfortable. There's no lumbar support and elbow rests is not the same as arm rests.

    It's comfortable when you are sitting in a drawing position and when you do that you lean forwards and you don't use the backrest or arm rests. That's why I chose this design over many others as I explain here. This chair is better for artists than a gamer's chair. If you're NOT an artist then you'll need a backrest and arm rests but typically those things are of little use to anyone who spends hours at a drawing tablet. If you are a gamer or just a normal tech user then the typical chair design might be better suited to you but artists sit in a very different way when working.

    Too fucking expensive, I want it, but I can't cough up that amount of cash for it.

    That's up to you but it's the best seat for artist - that's all I'm saying. What's more important? A chair that'll last you years and take care of your back or the cash you might send on several cheap chairs and back treatment. lol.
