I started planning a trip with a buddy. We have no points this will be our first time elk hunting. I found a guide that offered drops and full guided trips. I liked the price of drop camps and thinking we could figure out the elk but buddy thinks that a full guide would be best for first timers. This is otc near Pagosa Springs. What’s your thoughts?

If you are in a 0 point unit or OTC I would not spend the money on a guide. I'd wait until you have a few points so you can hunt a better unit and get the most out of your money and trip. Drop camp is a great way to cut your teeth and get into western hunting. I'd say success rates are probably pretty low, drop camps are usually not in great areas, despite what the guides might say

It's not as hard to do as you might think. otc and go. If you know how to camp, it's all down hill from there.😊
