Brilliant idea to teach some DIY items during this hard time. One of my favorite light modifiers is a beauty dish with a grid - I like that style of portrait. Swee Ling made for a beautiful and charming model. As for telling the differences between the lighting, I don't know. I did notice, though, that there was not much of a catchlight in her eyes. Other than that, the light all looked good.

Paperbowl is B Styrofoam is C Plastic bowl is A I liked - "B" the best. It does not matter which DIY Beauty Dish was used, as the end result matters the Most!. "B" is good because of the dramatic look, adding to it the pink/red light on the right. The pose as well.

My guesses: A = plastic; B = paper and C = Styrofoam. They are all good shots but I like B for being a little softer. Dr Ling on the other hand is AAA!

My take: A = Plastic bowl B= Styrofoam C= Paper bowl My preference is 'C'

Love the project.... but to real evaluate the look, the lighting and outfits should have also remained a constant... control all the variables basic to any 'experiment'...

I might be wrong, but I notice that both of your lavalier mic are upside down; is that the way you use it? Is it the better way? . Anyway, here are my answer: C series is the plastic B series is the styrofoam A series is the paper

You should at least paint the backsides from the DIY Beauty Dish´s black, so the backsides from the DIY Beauty Dish´s will not behave like a big diffuser dome, which would also illuminate the wall behind and left and right from you, or the ceiling.

Hi Andrew, loved the DIY. Hated the multiple mid roll ads on this video. You have a combination of your advertising, which I get, after all it is your business, competing with You tube over the top. Didn't bother watching to the end. Sad that this is happening.
