    I have been a children's tutor for many years, both paid and volunteer. I teach reading using phonics and have training in teaching people with dyslexia how to read using Saxon Phonics and Alphabetic Phonics. I love your videos and information! When I was in Americorps in the 1990s, we used the Steck-Vaughn Phonics Readers (1991) that are excellent. I seems that you haven't heard of these. There are 40 books in all with colored illustrations. These books start with two books each for the five short vowel sounds ("Matt and Rags," "Pam's Pal,": etc.) and two books each for the five long vowel sounds ("A Race on the Lake," "The Cake Bake," etc.). These are the only phonics-based books I have found for teaching beginning reading. I will now order your books too. Thank you so much!

    Oh my goodness. You have so much passion that I love. I was thinking about how I wanted to find a better way to teach children to read. You showed up on my KZread feed 🤔😊. I have watched a few episodes and intend to sign up for your course. My heart is to take this to my church’s children’s ministry. I see that a lot of Bible stories that are hard to keep the children interested. I am always looking for ways to get children to learn without them realizing that is what I am doing. The age group I am privileged to serve is infants to 5 years. Thank you for all of your hard work. You and your team. I pray that you get millions of customers that see the value. I am a grandmother and wished this was available when my two were younger. I do plan to use this for my 8 year old grandson. He is struggling with reading. Congratulations and I wish you all the best. 😊🏆

    I ordered these books 3 weeks ago and my son has been excitedly reading through them. He just finished book 12 yesterday! I had a rule with him that we could only attempt one new book a night. He likes to reread all the books most nights. Sometimes he would get tired as we neared book 8-11 and couldn't attempt any new books. Something you didn't mention in the video is that there is a cast of characters that come back and interact with each other throughout the books. He liked them as if they were friends, saying "That's Pat!!" when he came across the character in the next book. There are also little callbacks to previous books which made it feel more continuous. He was challenged by capital I looking like lowercase L. He seemed to sort it out by the end of the books but we had to help a lot to distinguish between the two. I emailed Spencer about this and he mentioned that it was done on purpose. (Thank you for responding so quickly!) My son did seem to figure it out eventually! I highly recommend these books and I hope you make more soon so that my son can read more about these characters while advancing to the next stage!

    Wow I wish I had these when my son was younger, people will appreciate the parent guide as their kids get older and realise even though as parents we can read, knowing where to start in teaching a kid how to read is a challenge, you don’t even know where to start, so that alone is worth the money. Love your passion :)

    This is a great video. What you are saying actually makes sense. I'm teaching my niece to read & I had to learn HOW to pronounce the sounds. I followed the instructions in a book & she is a great reader now. Next we are going to practice larger words, diagraphs & spelling.Those books that say I can read level 1 actually aren't level 1. They are much hard than they seem for beginning readers.

    As someone from the UK it’s really interesting to see how different the beginner readers are over there. In England when kids start to read at 4-5 years old they are sent home phonic books normally matched to the phonics scheme the school uses and these books get changed maybe 3 times a week, every week throughout school for the first few years until they have finished learning phonics. So there are lots and lots of decodable books available for parents to buy if they wish to support their child’s reading or use earlier at home. Do schools in America not send home reading books? Or are the reading books ones like you have just shown?

    I'd love to see a short video from you on when and how to move from reading individual words to sentences. I've used your techniques with great success in teaching my daughter letter sounds and blending, but I'm unsure how to know whether she's ready to start reading sentences, and exactly how to ease her into it. I get the impression that you regard developing strong phonics fundamentals as more important than rushing into sentences, so I've stuck with improving her facility at decoding individual words, but I also wonder how to know when she's ready to take that next step, and what I need to do to develop that skill.

    I can relate to this man's struggle to teach their child to read. It was almost a mirror image watching his introduction. I bought the same books on Amazon as he did and had the same disappointing reaction. And like him, I developed my own Decodable readers called "Little Sprouts" to fill in a massive gap in the market that should be there but isnt. I would like to make one point regarding pages per book. Less pages per book is a good thing for beginner readers as they dont have the mental stamina when first using their decoding skills to read independently. So a graded book series which begins with less pages and slowly builds up with more pages per book is better in my opinion. Also, there is another really good book series out there Julia Donaldson's Songbirds stage 1. They are wonderful decodable readers.

    Wow, the marketing for these books is absolutely top-notch! Aside from that, you can tell you genuinely love what you do! I love your message telling parents that they can teach their kids how to read. I see so many parents who think that only teachers can teach their children(including my own). As a first time parent I know I am capable of teaching my son to read, I just need the right sources. I’ve seen the system fail children because parents failed to provide that support as far as educating their own children at home. I never want to be that parent. I just found you on IG this week. I’m watching all your videos and definitely researching before I make my purchase. I plan on buying the full system. I am just so glad to see a system that makes sense!

  • @seinok108
    @seinok1086 ай бұрын

    Sorry, this has just made me need to vent: At least there ARE lots of beginner options in English. In my first language, Hungarian, there is virtually nothing. Some publisher have recently come out with so-called beginner books - but even the lowest levels are full-on novels with really complicated stories that sometimes even I don't get, and complex words, with zero repetition, using serif font. Even many character names are made up. What on earth??? So I've had to make up my own books (so far, using photos of the children themselves, and describing what they're doing). It's really not that hard to come up with a suitable actual-beginner text. Why wouldn't they?? And yes, once I tried looking at a page as if I didn't know how to read, I also quickly realised I had to put an extra space between words. In fact, I put an extra space between the letters, and four spaces in between the words, and printed them super large: one short sentence on one A4 page. All doable, but sooo time-consuming to diy. I wish I could just pick these off of the shelf! Also, while I am happy with how my content has turned out for now, I'd love for my kids to read proper connected stories with matching pictures. But that would really cost me waaay to much time and money. Also, when I print at home, it's not technically going to be a "book". 😕
