I just purchased one of the 10 in Belva subwoofers to put in my wife's Ford escape with a pioneer cd player. I will be powering it with a extreme 500 watt monoblock amp that I purchased in 2002 for $179.00. It has been a really good amp. I decided to upgrade two years ago. Now my wife gets to enjoy it's power.

Thanks for the vid!!? Great way to spend mothers day!!
The 12" Blaupunkts that were available for a while are as good as anyone needs. Great performers. Good bass is not nearly as hard to achieve as people think.
Most would say those numbers are weak. But those subs would be a great for drop in factory replacements. That's on par with most factory amps.
I truly give you credit for being honest and showing the little "oopsie" when your bit when through the surround. You could have edited that out and nobody would have ever known. This is also good to show to remind us how easy it can happen if your not conscious and careful when screwing these things down. I had to climb in through my trunk and rear seat (folded down) when I was younger because I locked my keys in the car and it was the easiest way to get into it. I should have pulled my sub box out completely, but i didnt, I just turned it sideways and started climbing. My knee went through the center cap and broke it. I ran those MA audio 12's (I believe they were 600 rms) for the next 7 or so yrs no prob, after several yrs previously transferring from car to car I owned at the time. (These subs were run hard before being given to me). I was given those subs somewhere around 1998-2000 and ran them 10+yrs on whatever amp I had at the time, lastly an Alpine mono block (cant remember the model, I believe it was an MR series, like 300-400watt or something) and both the amp and the subs still live in my garage today. They both still worked when I retired them about 4 yrs ago. Goes to show how well these subs were built, and how well that little mono amp was built. I could bring them back to life now if I had the trunk space and a proper box for them.

I had three 12 inch MTX Road Thunder. Two ported and one in a bandpass. The two ported from a 300w Jensen, the Bandpass from a Radio Shack 200w Amplifier. They were underpowered but because there was three of them it did decently. EDIT: I didn't use the crappy MTX boxes, I had a large ported box that helped them not need as much power and reach a bit lower.
I think the Jensen 12 is around 30 bucks right now.
For a good cheap prefab box to use for basic testing is the Skar SK1X12V. It is actually a good match for the Sundown SA 12" classic, I got 2 of them running in my vehicle. It should yield better results even for cheap subs.

It is louder when wired in parallel because it will draw more power. But if the power is the same the SPL will be the same, holding everything else constant.
Thanks for the video! These are essentially upper mid-quality subs from the 90s with some modern cosmetic touches to make them sell in the 2020s. Definitely, 6 of these in a hatchback will hit better than one modern high-end sub that costs more than the 6 combined.

I have this sub in my house running off a 2.1 amp and it kicks. You should get it and do a review on it. Infinity Primus 1270B - Sealed slim enclosure with 12" (300mm) subwoofer
I want 4 X 8" belvas, two low pass filters. Some tweeters, wires, some 50-100mm plywood or MFD and I'm good for sound experiments :D Two belvas for my friends, because they looks epic!
I recently bought a living room subwoofer (with enclosure) but changed the driver out with one from a broken JBL unit. I also added the stuffing from the jbl into the enclosure. It's a lot less sensitive but also less boomy now, and I can actually tune the volume in better The amp is supposedly W RMS/ 400W peak. The driver I took out looks a lot like that SSL one. I'm thinking to make a sealed enclosure to fit into the boot of my new car with that driver and use the EQ on the head unit to reduce the low frequencies going to the door mounted speakers. Got an old Clarion amp that got enough power, built in LPF and gain. I think that should work to get some bass going

@@DIYAudioGuy great!!! Thanks
It is possible to build a great sounding sub with SOME sub-par drivers as I did for my second (tow behind my motorhome vehicle) But you have to be VERY selective. I wanted to keep mine less obtrusive to accommodate weekend getaways. I chose the lowest Fs and VAS while still having a decent Xmax. With the aid of Win-ISP, I had a small 12" enclosure with a 28 Hz Fb that does a surprising job of clearing ear wax and annoying my wife at the same time. :) After a demo for my friends, they all say "Whaaaat?" when they see what just bent their ears. lol it IS a Boss :)
I ordered the 8 pack on Amazon making a box for them, did a 144.1 in the kick outlaw @45hz with 3 Pyle 15’s on 750 watts, Tahoe with 0 deadener and cabin mods hopefully I can get it to 150+ like my other systems but with just $250 in subs lol
You should use the hook side of Velcro tape to the backside of your SMD, that way it sticks to the speaker box and won’t run off on you.
I got the 12 dual 2 ohm and im running them on a rockford fosgate T1500 dB cp. Amp. I've ran these subs hard now for over 4years straight and never blew them up at all im happy with these subs big time due to the fact that they have lasted this long without blowing them. The price is good and only problem I have is finding a good box to put them in I've tried a few boxes but never was happy with the boxes I've used? Other than that great subs I would like to get the big x bad boy they have next maybe?
I like the belva there single 2 ohm coil and to my ears sounded better than the hifonics at least it the box and truck I had them in .
I think the belvas are pretty decent for the price
*id like to see one of these in a 4th order aimed at seeing what peak SPL can be squeezed out of one of them on bout 700watts*
Good comparison for subwoofers except for dual voice coil totally changes... I've also seen people give dual voice coil Subs a bad name because sometimes people wire a dual voice coil sub the wrong way and have it play for a few days and then burn up then.. they want to give the speaker a bad name.. but I did see a video of a guy pounding on that dual voice coil Hifonics subwoofer.. the exact one you have in the video and he had it hooked up with no box... and he was pounding on that thing whatever a used worked well it did not hurt the sub

@@paulcampbell8696 I’d kill to hear a full room system using Belva subs in IB. That would be amazing.
I bought 4 Audiopipe APMB-6800-C 6x8’s for my F-150 about 3 years ago. I was going to use them as component components with crossovers and tweets. After I spent 40 or so hours installing sound deadening. It blew a head gasket. Anyway, I am thinking about using these 6x8’s in my home surround system. I have two 12’s as subwoofers and 2 DIY cabinets with 6in mids and 3.5in tweets. It’s missing a lot of the 200hz to 1khz or mid bass. I already have 2 way and 3 way crossovers sitting around. These particular 6x8’s are heavy for what they are. They’re rated 125w RMS and most importantly are 8ohm speakers. Do you think they would sound good in a home system? The oval shape has me wondering if I should turn one horizontal and one vertical (since I have 4) in each cabinet or is that stupid? I’m just really missing the heavy rhythm in rock and roll. I was going to buy a couple Dayton 8 inch pro mid bass speakers but I have these 6x8’s and they are supposed to be for this range. Any advice would be appreciated. Don’t bother sugar coating it. I’m a grown man.
Something has been bugging me for a while. I have a question that isn't relevant to this particular video but is relevant to the audio world. If Spotify and KZread keeps music at or below -14dB, should we use a -10dB test tone to set our amplifier gain. Wouldn't that still provide at least 4 dB of headroom while allowing you to access more power from your amplifier/speaker combo? Or am i missing something?

I really think Skar has the best entry level subs on the market at the moment. Just a few dollars more, gets you a solid performing sub, just keep expectations realistic. The smaller size subs being the better performers than their larger counterparts. That's generally true for any brand of entry level subwoofers. Thanks for the video, as this is good knowledge for the rest of us on a not so big budget regretfully.
