For me the best budget microphone is a Shure Beta57A. It's especially good if you're not using it in well-treated room, acoustically. I find it is just a superior 58, but supercardioid. Maybe it is more like a 57, I haven't compared it directly. But it is great. Fantastic bottom end for male vocals. I TOTALLY agree with this dude.

Still using a cheap Numark WM200 with pop shield. 🤷‍♂️ Tested expensive ones to improve quality ... all sounded "different", but not better. What improved quality though, was switching from "normal" audio jack (TS) to an XLR interface. That lowered the noise floor massively! 😎 I wished someone had told me earlier. 😉 It was just the cable that was rubbish.

After 20 years of this and you're constantly surprised by the lack of knowledge about these very important factors of music and sound creation...don't let anyone tell you that "as long as you play well it be ok" .....nope.. ask a good guitar player,,, what do you use? And what would you really like to use?

The thing I hate with cheap condensers is the so-called "presence peak". A nasty 10 kHz lump isn't "presence" and results in a mic that's bright but ironically often lacks presence. On the plus side, learning to deal with that is a rite of passage - like learning to not boost the lows when the bass isn't cutting through!
