I totally agree! Lord of the rings style sagas all the way here, even in movies unless they're old golden age of cinema movies, so great to see some new exciting sagas recommended. Romances for the sake of romances just never seem to hold my interest, but a good saga - such a treat!!!

You will absolutely LOVE The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden: it’s the ultimate Russian fairytale, set in winter 🥰 it has magical creatures, friendly house spirits, witchy main character and it’s just overall my absolute favourite book of this year!!

I read The Bear and The Nightingale a couple years ago and I think I just didn’t read it at the right time for me because I didn’t love it 🙁 But I think I’m going to try reading it again! The winter atmosphere was incredible ❄️

I did love The Bear and the Nightingale series a lot-one of my favourite series and reading in the heart of winter is a must! I thought I’d add that if you’re looking for something similar but a bit more accessible, I really recommend Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. Great winter read with an Eastern European folklore fairy tale vibe.

I absolutely LOVED seeing Jared's reading taste! He's so much fun. And he's absolutely right about Tress of The Emerald Sea. Brandon Sanderson wrote it because he and his wife were watching The Princess Bride and his wife wished Buttercup played a more active role in the story. So Tress of The Emerald Sea is basically a fanfiction of what would have happened if Wesley got kidnapped and Buttercup needed to save him. Desi, I know this book is right up your alley. You would LOVE it.

As someone in the trenches of modern dating, you guys are so lucky to have found this dynamic with each other. What an awesome couple :)

For me the most heartwarming thing about this video is seeing a man that reads because in the UK, men just don’t. My ex prided himself in the fact he’d only ever read one book in his life - and he was 35 at the time!! Kudos to Jared for bucking this trend and being confident enough to vlog it.

Desi you have to read Mistborn! My husband and I have listened to it on audible and I’m on the third book now! The first book is so so so good the characters are so good and there is a romance that you will enjoy. Lol.

Yes to The Wheel of Time show!! My husband read the whole book series (I did not) and it did really bother him in the beginning that the show wasn’t in line with the books. However, he was able to eventually look past it and we both really enjoy the show 😊 He really enjoys seeing me be shocked by things he knows are coming and I love getting extra details from the book after watching something happen.

I will always and forever recommend The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. It's good people on a cosy space journey, it's inclusive and welcoming and uplifting, and it makes me a better person every time I read it.

This was so fun! Loved seeing the different tastes you both have. You should make it a yearly thing! I also read Wheel of Time this year and I have a feeling that Jared will have so much fun when he gets to the last books in the series that Brandon Sanderson wrote on behalf of Robert Jordan. I'm such a Brando Sando girlie and Tress was definitely my top read this year.

My husband has read a lot of the Wheel of Time books, and we watched the series together and both enjoyed it. He definitely pointed out all the differences to me, but said he didn't mind them.

Anytime you have book recommendations I take notes in my phone. Thanks to you for the past couple of years, I have found genres that bring me joy and comfort. I lost my love for reading as an adult as I went through my internship to become a dietitian. Now everyday after work and on the weekends, I love drinking my coffee and losing myself in my books. It has been many years since I have read Stardust. I did read Lost Coast Literary and was surprised by its story and found it to be so nice. Jared is great on screen. Dragons win for your reading this year. The Tress book is in my to-read list. It is nice to hear good things about it. This was sooooo cute. I recommend the series "Before the Coffee Gets Cold" which is about time travel in a cafe! It was one of my favorite books I read this year (I have read the first two but the fourth book just came out and i need to catch up).

I highly recommend the Pages and Co. series. The sixth and final book came out this year so you can binge the whole series. It’s middle grade but pure joy for book lovers.

Thanks for so many additions to my TBR list! I came here to say I’ve read the Wheel of Time series multiple times and I love the tv series and really recommend it. I know that shows (especially intricately detailed multi-plot line fantasy ones) will have to make choices for tv adaptation but I think they did a good job with them. Lots of Easter eggs and nuance that nods to the true events of the books if they diverge. Casting, costumes, story are all fantastic!

Loved this idea of you both giving your best for each month! Plus, The Wishing Game! I read it in August and loved it! 😍 I believe I got it as a rec from you! It was one of those books that I wasn’t expecting but fell so hard for it. ❤❤ I need to re-read it. Slewfoot - I was worried it would be “witch trials focused” but I was pleasantly surprised by it. The way it weaved in folklore/magic/history was very unique and well done. I wouldn’t reread it again cuz it was heavy but in a good way.

Your videos are so good for my sanity! When I feel the mom overload of each season, I love to watch your videos and be reminded to slow down and enjoy the beauty in each…. If you haven’t already experienced it, you must read “Scarlet” the sequel to “Gone with the Wind”. At the end of the book or movie either one, I am always holding my mouth and breath swearing Rhett isn’t going to leave. My husband gets a kick out of it. Well when I found out that there was a part two and bonus it is focused around Scarlets Irish roots and historically true Irish history… well I have read it several times! Don’t waist your time with the movie. Such a let down but the book… oh my goodness. You will love it.
