A few BMX riders I’ve worked with dislike the chain twist they get from HalfLinks and end going back to the SRAM 830/850/870/890 or KMC X8. As far as weight, if you’re wanting to save weight with hollow pins, check specs first…you might surprised it’s only a few grams difference.
Love my Shadow half link, have them on most of our bikes.
You did great explaining the differances awsome job.
not BMX but close to it.... Street trials and trials, not sure how much torque generated but I personally feel, most of my chains wont last longer than my dirt jumper. Currently on KMC Z1 eHx that snapped after close to a year of use (street trials)....
I just bought a shadow chain from you guys at the Winnebago land state final.
Personally I run the Shadow Race chain. As an adult racer I just find it brings peace of mind knowing it can handle things and the adjust ability is great for trying new setups to dial in your ride!

The Shadow chains are awesome! Plus they come in some pretty sweet colors too!
You can also add a single half link (KMC Z410-OL) to a full link chain to tweak overall length

Absolutely, that's a great way to get the best of both worlds.
I like the detail in the explanations.. but you forgot the biggest difference between half link and full link chains, THE STRENGTH lol, I've snapped dozens of full link chains, only snapped one half link, and it was used for years before I got it. And it wasn't shadow lol so that's prolly why
Snapped a lot of light weight chains. You can say learned the hard way 😂 honestly i over extended the life on them and i ran tall park gears. 28 -9 🤷♂️

Those smaller chainrings tend to put a lot of extra stress on the links! We always say for the older riders, the weight savings of light chains isn't worth the risk hahaha sorry about you're luck and hopefully you didn't get too many scars from it!
