The best bait is....?
Better watch tell the end of this one or you'll miss some epic hookups. On this episode I commit to fishing one bait the entire day, and it's obvious I made a great choice. If you're not fishing this bait, you're missing out.

I'm glad to have finally found a channel for my area. Every other channel on KZread is about Florida fishing, and the Pamlico is so different from other places and so it has to be fished differently than a lot of KZreadrs say. I mainly fish the bays and creeks here in Hyde but also fish around Northern Beaufort County. Grew up doing it commercially and have gotten serious about rod and reel the last few years.

Right on brother! Glad to have you on board! Thanks for the comment
Man…. Watching you double up and you being by yourself, I said to my screen” Dang I wish I was on his boat to help”. Great job!
Folks… Mr Halty Salty always provides a LOT of great info, as he did in this video. One item to mention… if you are wanting to go out drum fishing on the Pamlico, at night (7p-7a), don’t forget the “Old Drum” rig requirement! / regulation!
Gotta love full moon in August. Quality video. My back is jacked up. Almost felt like I was fishing. Never take it for granted. Thanks

@@haltysalty7537 Had a great carping season so far. Love to get into some inshore saltwater fishing, but I only get out twice a month, and I'd have to give up a carping session for a kayak inshore trip...

Thanks Robbie. Yeah it's a pretty awesome place. Some days during the week I can go out and maybe only see one or two other boats. Not to mention the fishery. That's special.

I was on the lookout for this video! When I saw you headed out this day, I knew we would be in for a great vid…. And you delivered (not that you may have noticed, I was coming in on the little Sundance skiff, as you were starting out). No bull / old drum for me that day, although I did see one near the bank that rolled. Tried to get him to eat plastic but he wasn’t having it. The good news, the area I was in was loaded with slot sized reds, 18”-22” and they were hungry (chewing on Zman 3” paddle tails - electric chicken and sexy mullet). Also pulled in three nice flounder, that I tossed back…. But I know where they are when the season opens! lol. Keep up the good work and I’ll be sure to say hello next time! Also… I like the addition of the tower! Looks great!

Was that you coming into the dock with your wife?
@popnshots9139
Жыл бұрын
Yes. I started out at 6:45a in the direction you were headed, which is where all the reds were caught. When that bite turned off, headed away from the dock in the opposite direction, as there is a hole not to far from there that holds flounder. Would have stayed at the flounder spot longer, but my trolling motor battery gave out (fighting that wind and current all morning). Wish there was a way to contact you to swap notes. lol Also got some good info from a marine biologist that launched just after you. Proof that being friendly pays off and that you never know who you will meet!

What action ! How old do you think some of those bigger fish are ? A lady brought me 3 40 plus lb drumm and they had a lot of worms in the backs . They were on ice .

They say the old ones can live to 60 years. I would estimate the large ones caught in this video are between 10 and 50 years old. They grow extremely fast in the first 5 years, 32 inches or more. Then growth slows and it becomes harder to tell age. I personally believe you can age them by their tail appearance. The older they get, the more their tails become thick, rough and gnarly looking.
My name is Randy Debbie is my girlfriend watch your videos all the time we fish around oriental a lot you had your. Hands full good job

Which rod and reel setup is your preferred setup? Red&trout...
@haltysalty7537
Жыл бұрын
Whew, tough question. On trout I like a 7', sometimes 7'6" rod, medium fast action usually but really you just need to pick up several rods and feel. Sensitivity (tip) is key, especially if you're throwing a mirro lure. I like Tsunami, Fenwick, TFO, Shimano. For a good rod be ready to spend $100 dollars or more, same on the reel. Reel is a 3000-3500 size loaded with 10lb Jbraid for me but there's lots of good braids out there. On the reel, there are some good reels in the $60-100 range, Diawa Revros is a good one I use. All this can apply to small drum also but upper to over slot I use bigger stuff.
Nice fish what day was this

Hey Mason, this was one day last week.
was this a spot traditionally good for you, or did you see something to indicate they were in the area? Come across bait pods in the Neuse all the time that have nothing feeding on them.

thanks for the comment. I have caught fish in this area before but not like this. There was some bait in the area but I had no idea the bite would be this good. I went back with some friends 4 days later and we caught another 12. A week after that, zero. Mostly right time, right place. It doesn't look like it in the video, but the wind was cranking. Hard wind makes them bite better. NE wind is best.

@@haltysalty7537 Interesting. I'm not far from Adams Creek and a NE wind is nearly unfishable on the big river, 2+ ft rollers! I have seen what you speak of though where they are in a spot for a few days and then moved on to somewhere else. Excellent footage btw.. nice work.
