Drone Redfish Shallow Water

On this episode, we are down at Oregon Inlet. The goal of this trip was to capture schools of Redfish with the drone. I think we did a pretty good job. Thanks for watching and subscribing!

Redfish drone.spotting and.catching is frowned upon here in Louisiana.

Just spent a couple days on the western Pamlico. All species seem to have lockjaw, which I haven't experienced too many times in September. High point was seeing a Canebreak crossing the road outside Belhaven. Oh well, now that I am gone the fish can start biting again.

It’s been a grind everywhere. I was down at Atlantic Beach this past Tuesday. It was one of the slowest days I can remember in that area. Fished the turning basin, radio island, Beaufort bridge, and AB bridge. Landed a couple of teach fish and 10 world record sized lizard fish. Highlight and heart break of the day… tossed out a jumbo mullet on a Carolina rig at the AB bridge hoping for a flounder. Next thing I know my poor 4000 Penn Fierce reel was screaming and line was getting peeled off like I had the bail open. Before I could get untied from the bridge and backed out, I was missing about 150yrds off the reel. Started to chase it down and he took a right for the port. POW.. cut my line at the hook (at least I didn’t surrendered all that braided line!). Based on speed of hit and line stripping off…. Guessing it was a decent sized King. Oh well. I chatted with several folks at the ramp and the story was the same.. no fish. Hopefully the weather cooling off will change the game!

@@popnshots9139 Thanks for the post. Misery loves company. I just kept telling everyone at the ramps that I figured it would be fire based on the past couple of years. One guy asked me if September is too early. I responded that October is usually better, but that some of my best trips have been in September. And warm water shouldn't have had the flounder bite shut down. I don't know. Its weird. Sorry you lost that fish. I had a lizard too, and a gar!!!! That was the low point when I ran up the white flag.

Awesome footage and congrats on a great day of fishing! Nothing like seeing the boil of a huge school of red drum. For folks that have not experienced it before, getting surprised on the ocean side by a massive school of bull reds can be intense. I’ve seen a kayak fisherman get caught up in one and it bopped his boat around big time.

Thanks RC. No doubt, every encounter with schools of Reds is exciting! Bulls boiling in the ocean is unforgettable.

Is using a drone now considered “fair chase” ?

Hi Kiki, I suppose that's up for debate, just like Side Scan and Live Scope or trail cams for hunting, or towers on boats for that matter. However in this video, as previously stated, drone was only documenting as I would with a gopro or any camera on the boat. Infact many fish were landed while I was droning groups of fish several hundred yards away. This was just a scenario where we were in the fish, no drone was needed, but it made for some great visuals. Thanks for watching

@@haltysalty7537 I guess we’ll just take your word for it and assume the drone has never once helped you land a fish.

While this is awesome footage, be careful. In NC, Using a drone to assist in fishing is a Class 1 misdemeanor. (G.S. 14-401.24) (G.S. 113-13). If you know something I do not, please let me know, this is an issue I think of often.

I am aware. In this video I am simply videoing same as I would on the boat with a camera. Drone is not used to assist anglers, only observe. This is a weird law and I have no idea why it was passed. There are so many other practices in NC that kill and harm fish in mass, drone flying should be the least of their concerns. Thank for watching!
