The Coleman can be hacked cheaply and make it MUCH better. Stock, it is not airtight. Weatherstrip the lid and add two latches to compress the lid down a bit on the weatherstrip. Making it airtight for a few bucks makes a $38.00 cooler perform miles better. I also trashed the stock plastic hinges and used stainless, on day one.

Those aren't cup holders on the trailmate, they are fishing rod holders, but great review ive had lots of luck with my ozark trail rotomolded coolers and their often on sale for well under 100 bucks!!

I like the igloo bmx! Just got a rugged tough look gonna have too look for it!

I have the overland igloo 25, just one size down from the one you reviewed, and it’s well made for the price, as well as having a really nice carrying handle. I got it on clearance for 40 dollars and I’ve been more than satisfied with it. You were spot on with the bmx. You are just paying for the look, but it’s not worth the extra money unless you need the fish ruler. Thank you for doing a thorough review!

Another thing, the BMXs are made in China and the Overlands are made in Texas.

Any idea why the handle is different on some of the the Trailmates? Also, considering the Trailmate has the bungee holds, do you think it would make any difference in ice retention if you had a bungee holding the lid closed? Just a thought

I think you're right, ice retention would have likely been better with a bungee holding the lid down. Good thought for keeping ice over night, maybe not as practical for when you're frequently going in and out of the cooler! Not sure about the different handles 🤔

So if we take looks out of the equation.... The overland is the best bang for your buck either way?

In person the Lifetime is impressive…Coleman has been a disappointing personally

I just bought the bmx 52 and you can increase it’s performance substantially by installing a 3/8 in rubber D shaped gasket to air seal it
