The best part about the reptile hobby and animal community in general is all of the amazing and inspiring personalities flooding the internet with their positive messages about snakes, lizards, venomous snakes and many species of all types of pet animals. Huge names like Brian Barczyk, Snake Discovery, Jay Brewer, Clint's Reptiles and Chandler's Wildlife are a huge reason many of us even got into this hobby to begin with. Venomous Snake specialists like Tyler Nolan, Viper Keeper and David's Feed show us the right way to keep these amazing but potentially master level reptiles. The really great thing about the pet hobby is the cross over from snakes to birds or ferrets or other amazing pet species and for this channels like Tyler Rugge, Maddie Smith and Emzotic show us how to keep many very different species. Learning to tame reptiles is easy with channels like Reptiliatus. We have experts in this community like Kevin McCurley at NERD. New England Reptile Distributer is responsible for many new Ball Python Morphs and out understanding of rare species. For big snakes like Reticulated Pythons and other constrictors we have the Brian Kusko, Goherping, Josser's Jungle, Dav Kaufman, Kamp Kenan and Reach Out Reptiles of the world to break down irrational fear of snakes and other reptiles. Amazing bioactive enclsoure builds like Serpa Design. Up and coming channels like All Canadian Reptile Girl, Troy Goldberg's Tropical Garage, Hunter Houck, Jessica's Animal Friends, Frank Payne and many others are will inspire future generations like the OG channels before them. This hobby is in good hands... so long as we can weed out the terrible influences like The Reptile Channel, these brutal Burmese Hunting Fishing Channels showing the torturing of animals and the reptile fight channels. We are very lucky to have a much larger positive impact on this amazing community than we have negative.

Every time I see Snake Discovery in a thumbnail of a vid like this, I get so scared that they're getting called out for something horrendous, yet every time it's nothing but positive things to say and I love their channel and the work they do just a little more. When I first started getting interested in the reptile community, I followed some not so great KZreadrs at first that didn't treat their animals with the care and respect they deserve. Knowing that Snake Discovery, a channel I've followed since the beginning of my reptile interest days, still has a stellar reputation and has always been forward and honest about their mistakes and faults is so special to me.

THIS!! So much, this. I'm always worried, and for no reason, and that's just so pure and happy. I've never met Emily or Ed but gosh, I'll defend them in a heartbeat. They're super awesome and very well versed in their care knowledge. While I DO wish some of their animals had bigger enclosures that aren't zoo animals, the fact that their animals live otherwise one hundred percent spoiled lives makes me smile. Here's to their baby season and the joys it is going to bring!

While generally yes, the video on the alligator in the pet store was very bad. Alligators, even stunted ones, are still capable of dislocating or ripping off your arm or killing something like a small dog (of which there are many dogs in a pet store). It wasnt safe for the reptile and it wasnt safe for the people, and it was negligent to make a video like that.

But for whatever reason it seems to select the actually humane hunting/fishing channels for that treatment, but the ones that re-use the same snake/fish/boar for a quick video is A okay. Can't have people know the local hunting regulations or tips on being more humane, or how to spot diseased animals so you can report them, ect. Nah, just the clickbait.

He had also used the VERY ableist point that "you wouldn't put down a disabled person" in response to pll saying that he breeds suffering animals just bc he gets paid for it. 2. Completely ignored his snakes mouth rot even when people were actively telling him about it. He then later replaced this snake as it died from the infection. Once called out for this he made a video crying on camera saying he was geting "bullied". 3.CONSTANTLY bothers and harasses his animals for content. For example he had sprayed his retic with a hose after just eating, the reason for this was absolutely nothing. Also bothers his animals 24/7 and often acts dramatic on camera whenever issues occur which obviously stresses the animals 4. Creates clickbaity thumbnails which perpetuate the idea that reptiles are huge evil killing machines. 5. And lastly the most obvious one, hes a mill breeder. His animals are kept in awful conditions with cages disgustingly small. These have 0 enrichment and literally consists of a hide and dish. His wife even stated that his new animals were gonna be dead in a week

Finally someone who also disagrees with Brian not only that he also put 2 of his ball pythons in a chlorine pool, and you could tell they where extremely uncomfortable being in the water, not only that but he had his kid go into one of the big ball python enclosures and he basically acted as if she was going to eat him

There isn’t enough time in the world to discus why Brian is an awful reptile keeper. Now I will say his keeping has got better over the past few years still not amazing but better however 1. His old videos promoting bad husbandry are still up to influence his mainly young or uninformed audience that don’t know what is right or wrong and I think he is very irresponsible with his influence especially when it is the largest reptile channel. 2. He still shows really bad behaviours to this day that present him and in turn the whole reptile community as many people think everyone is like him as impulsive, go in blind etc when acquiring new animals which again is dangerous to a very impressionable audience. As much as I don’t like him he has fought hard for the reptile community and our rights and he has helped introduce people to the wonderful world of reptiles and has changed many peoples negative views towards reptiles so he’s not the devil but he is by far not the best reptile KZreadr on the platform

I just don't understand why you would give credit to someone solely because they have a big platform and advocate against regulations. What regulations? Can you be more specific? To me that kind of is a red flag but it depends entirely on what you're talking about. Is it breeding certain morphs? Is it wild caught vs captive bred? What specifically is it? Because while some things I could understand would be beneficial to the reptile keeping community, is it beneficial to that species as a whole to continue certain practices? There's a line between this being something for YOU and it being something you do because you love animals and want to give them the proper care. I'm just confused how that is viewed as a win if it's supposed to be about the animals themselves. But I have no idea because there were no specifics given!

I love your videos a lot, and I generally agree with a lot of the things you say, but I whole-heartedly disagree on Brain being 'good' for the community. He constantly posts fear-mongering videos (usually about being bitten, an animal escaping ect) and his stance on spider ball pythons is disgusting. Breeders should be looking to better the breed of the animal they take on, but it's been confirmed that you will never breed the 'wobble' out of spiders, and due to the 'wobbles' most of these snakes have a lower-quality of life. They are suffering, and yet people like Brian put profits and looks over the well-being of their animals. This is coming from a person who works for a dog breeder. We had a girl who kept producing pups with eye issues. We bred her twice; the second time we tried a different sire in hopes that it was the male we were using, but when her second litter came out with eye issues, do you know what we did? We gave her away to a new home and made sure she wouldn't be breed again. Because as a breeder, that is what you do. If you know that breeding two animals together could result in health complications that are 100% attached to the animal you are breeding, YOU DON'T BREED IT. It's that simple. His care of his reptiles also leaves something to be desired. Generally most of his reptiles are kept in wayyyyyy too small of enclosures for the breed (god, just look at his poor larger snakes) and the enclosures he has are barren and completely devoid of any enrichment. Just a hide, water bowl and that's it. His zoo enclosures are amazing, but he has hundreds of breeding reptiles kept in poor and neglectful conditions. Racks can be amazing, take for example Snake Discoveries racks. They are full of enrichment, are nice and large, and are just good quality environments for the animals. Just looking at the two side-by-side is disheartening, because it becomes so clear how lacking Brains enclosures are. I understand that he is a big inspiration for you, but it honestly seems that your admiration for him is clouding your judgement.

Tip for potty training puppies: I recommend grabbing the dog/picking them up, and immediately taking them outside (without putting them down until they’re where they SHOULD be peeing). They normally stop peeing when you pick them up, and will normally continue peeing once you put them back down. If you allow them to pee too often in the house without intercepting them, it will take a lot longer for the dog to get the message of where they’re allowed to go to the bathroom. Also, using a product like Angry Orange pet stain and odor eliminator breaks down the smells fully. Cleaning with something like this will help prevent the dog from smelling where it previously peed (in the house), as they tend to continue using the bathroom in the same general area because they smell it there. Many normal cleaners won’t be able to remove the smell entirely otherwise. (Oh and always immediately reward good behavior with a treat [like if they went to the bathroom in the right place]!) It’s almost impossible to over-do it on treats for puppies-treats help the most for reinforcing any good behaviors you see!

I want to add a +1 for Viper Keeper. He's an absolute font of wisdom on hot species, and is very involved in husbandry and breeding of endangered hots for zoos and research collections. Like Kevin at NERD, he's been doing it forever, and has been actively been involved in antivenom research, development and distribution too.

It's so cool that he's /finally/ getting the recognition he deserves too. Not that he seems to want it - but more people owe it to themselves to watch his channel. You learn so much about hots.

I I highly doubt your claims and I am very sure anyone who has the slightest inclination about Spiders being as every single Spider suffers from Wobble. So congrats and maybe don’t lie next time… Although maybe you didn’t notice in your twenty years of keeping?

Snake Discovery is one of those channels where I can't say enough awesome things about them. Emily and Ed are just the most wholesome kind of people! I really enjoy Chnadler's channel too, he's a bit like a Steve Irwin from Florida XD The way he handles his animals did make me a bit skeptical at first, but the more videos I watch the more I see how much he repects the dangers involved and that he does take safety seriously. His passion for the animals and the knowledge he shares has always been fascinating. Love how these videos can help branch people out. I found this channel through Snake Discovery, and from there I've been looking at a few others. Been thinking about getting a corn snake some day, so all new knowledge gained is good :D

One channel I really like that's a bit newer than this video (or got popular after this came out) is definitely Molinaro Snake Lab. Kerry seems really genuine and I appreciate how he handles eggs and babies from what I've seen. I'm extremely picky about who I'd buy from, and he's actually one of the breeders I'm looking at most in the near future, as he has both species I'm interested in.

I met Emily from snake discovery in a random place and she was so sweet and genuinely and talked with me for like 15 minutes despite that she was clearly busy doing something else. I’m an undergrad and we talked about the importance of women in stem and it was just so nice. I definitely look up to her as an incredible science communicator

I cannot believe they were holding secret meetings to try and get his permits taken away, but FWL came in for that clutch save and said to pretty much get over it.)

I love Snake Discovery. They taught me about morphs of snakes that I didn't know existed, especially the more concerning ones like the spider morph. I also love their baby videos because they explain about the veins on the inside of the eggs when they create slits in the tops of the eggs when the babies are ready to hatch along with the color of the fluid too and whether the fluid is a good sign (it being clear) or a concerning sign (cloudy or yellowish). I learned way more about snakes on their channel than I have from reading books that only tell you about the more common morphs and breeds.
