Which pettubers and reptile KZreadrs are the best and which ones are terrible? I get this question a lot. Certain personalities like Taylor Nicole Dean, Emzotic, Brian Barczyk and Paul Cuffaro have amassed massive audiences but are they worth their salt? Even some channels like The Tarantula Collective are great for the reptile hobby, even focusing mostly on Tarantulas and Inverts. Same can be said for Ants Canada too! Having a strong influence form some amazing female KZreadrs is great for the community too. Influencers like Emma Lynne Sampson, Neptune The Chameleon, Elle's Reptiles and Snake Discovery really lifts this hobby up and provides amazing examples of great animal husbandry. Some channels focus on one species like Mutation Creation Canada, Always Evolving Pythons, Brian Boas, Chris Hardwick, Justin Kobylka Reptiles, Reptile Mountain and Dave Palumbo at Muscle Serpents University. The venomous snake community also has some characters like Venomman20, Will Nace, Viper Keeper, David's Feed, Chandler's Reptiles, Tyler Nolan and Dingo Dinkelman. Others have wild personalities like Nick Bingo and Noah Barczyk of Bad Choice Noah. Other channels in the snake and reptile KZread space are very controversial from Reptiles Uncaged and that amazing free roam reptile room he has to Reptiles and Research with some wild and perhaps outlandish claims. Who is your favorite pettuber?

I live 20 minutes from jays zoo. I paid $15 dollars for basically a horror show, I left crying, it is absolutely heartbreaking. There is ants in the enclosures, he has Tegu’s that are severely dehydrated and anorexic. I'm a brand new keeper and only ready in our home for a 40 gallon for our adult male ball python. He's a rescue and tiny, about the size of a yearling. I dream of the day that I can give him a mansion of an enclosure. In the meantime, we are very proactive about enrichment in the enclosure and he gets time out of his 40 gal daily to roam, excepting the 12-16 hours post meal. The next 24 hours, I offer him the opportunity to wander freely either inside or outside with minimal handling and constant hands off supervision. Whether that feels sufficient to you or not, I'm grateful you're so vocal about small enclosures. Before finding your channel and insight, I'd heard plenty saying 40 gal is enough. Even if you were the 1st to say, "Is that really the life you want for the pet you love?", it was enough to make me think because my pride is nowhere near as important as his well-being.

Brian’s Boas has become one of my favorite channels. No, the production quality does not match yours, nor that of some other popular KZread reptile channels, but the information he provides is incredibly thorough and practical. He also gets right to the point-all the time-and does not waste time with overly-long intros to whichever subject he is covering, which I find refreshing. I also find him to be extremely generous with the information he shares. He doesn’t seem to hold back any of the “secrets” of his success. Finally, I think Brian does a good job at addressing the questions and concerns of both boa breeders, and those who simply keep boas as pets. Overall, Brian Boas is just a fantastic channel. I'd be happy to sit with you sometime on Facebook or through a discord call and talk about my experience with Jay and his facility. The entire experience was horrible. From start to finish, an awful experience. Justifying "exposure" as a good thing when none of his animals are kept in good conditions isn't a good justification for me. I have photos from my experience there as well.

I do actually feel like it is the responsibility of people who free handle venomous animals to tell their audience and in particular kids not to do this at home. We hold that standard for lots of video content of people doing reproducible dangerous things, and it's very reasonable to have it for KZreadrs.

I do agree somewhat, and there’s videos where I’m free handling certain snakes and I try and put a verbal disclaimer in there, but I doubt it makes a significant difference. In my opinions what’s more important then a disclaimer is presenting yourself in a professional enough way that it’s obvious your not just some bloke handling snakes We all grew up watching Steve Irwin letting taipans lick his face, without any just warnings, we don’t warn teenagers watching motor racing to drive responsibly ect So sure I think it’s a good thing to do, but there’s also an element of being being responsible for themselves

In my first 5 years on YT, I subscribed to only 2 channels - and Viperkeeper was one. VK is the major one who has let me the viewer get to really know the personalities and development of his animals over time; he tries to make the animals the stars. Importantly, he doesn't consider his collection of venomous snakes as pets - he did a big rant years ago in relating the story of a woman who bought a king cobra for her 10- or 12-yr-old son. I agree with your comments about his PV's, but I learn so much about the incredible science of snakes and venoms from his channel that are just amazing. Also, I get close-ups of fantastic animals that I would never otherwise see close-up.

Jay is a sensationalist. Everything is over done. That's how he gets views. Make a video and title it "I never thought this would happen to me!". See how many views it gets! It's all about the algorithms

I always liked the idea of having a house where animals free roam and or have 24 hour access to the outside, especially if you have tropical amphibians and a wet room or steam room.

Wow Rose City Reptiles is in Lindale, TX I used to live there & was thinking of getting a reptile from them before I moved into a small apartment. Now I'm about an hour away from them in a house & you have gotten my interested in Tegus. Such a small world & I truly enjoy your videos & content. My 6 year old got me started on your videos & now we have a leopard gecko & gargoyle gecko. Thank you for all of your info & care you put into the community.
