I don’t know what it is about this year but I am on a reading roll. I’ve already read more than I read last year and am absolutely on track to read more than 200 books. I think it’s because I’m having such a good mental health year? My new job has given me such a boost. Need time off? Go for it. I want to come in late because I slept bad? You do you. It’s amazing.

Since 2020 my amount of reading has also dipped I used to read all the time and now it's a lot harder to. But i strongly believe quality over quantity because you usually find more enjoyable books that way 🥰🥰 this year ive been really selective about what books im reading and honestly all of them have been pretty good so far because of it 🥰🥰 i hope thibgs get easier for you and you find yourself smiling or breathing easier throughout the day.

I feel you. I haven’t read much this year either because I haven’t been interested in anything / less than ok mental space. You’re right. Quality over quantity. I’m gonna pick up Dekoboko Sugar Days bc I haven’t read any manga / comics except heartstopper and this sounds possibly similar?

quality of books over quantity of books is so important!!! it's good to be selective with how you spend your time!! I haven't picked up Stolen Heir yet, but I love Holly Black, so that's on my list. Brandon Sanderson too -- as much as I read, I only just found out how prolific of an author he is lol

I have actively avoided Babel and Poppy War because I always had this strong feeling that they would not be for me. Yellowface however was an instant purchase based on the subject matter alone, and I'm happy to report that I loved it. Now I'm excited to see your reaction once you get around to reading it 😉

It’s been so hard for me to want to sit down to read lately. I’ve read 8 books this year with a goal of reading 12 total. I’ve been much more selective about what I’ve been reading and much more willing to DNF a book if I’m not enjoying it within the first few chapters. Overall I’ve been way more satisfied with my choices

I only read 16 books last year.

Only 14 books here. Over halfway to a goal of 23 -- like the year. Started the year on a V,E. Schwab bender and am now reading for the Hugo awards. I got over my mad about the books that didn't make the nomination list and am mostly enjoying the ones that are on it. Favoirite book of the year so far is a toss--up between the second book of the Shades of Magic trilogy and The Daughter of Doctor Moreau.

It’ll be interesting to see what you think of Sanderson. It seems like a lot of the time people that really love Hobb are not so fond of Sanderson, and vice versa.

i've read mistborn and the way of kings and i like him so far! but he's books are massvie haha

I don't understand how you can read Hobb. I started it by your recommendation, but it's so disappointing. Every time I think "Well, it's finally going to be alright", she breaks my heart with more cruelty then before. So so so painful to read. (but I started the one about dragons right away because why not) But overall it is really good, just not for me or not for now. Thank you for your recommendations! I'm going to check Divine Rivals, and I also like the Encyclopedia of Faeries .

I feel similarly about Kuang. I didn't like TPW at all and while Babel had many improvements, as you said, her characterization is weak and her themes are too belligerently delivered 🥲 I hear Yellowface is also similar in the heavy-handed themes execution, but I am curious enough about it. It will also be my final chance with her books!

My favourite books of this year (so far) are Godkiller and Spells For Forgetting! Absolutely loved those. I am currently reading Fourt Wing and also loving it. Looks like Fourth Wing is also going to be a favourite.

@@ellias oh glad to know you enjoyed it and already read the second book! On the other hand, my friend seems to be put off by the prose which I think improves a lot over the course of the series. I thought the writing was fine though despite its simplicity 😭- pierce brown did pretty well in his first book, conveyed his world which expands a lot and gets more unique in the later books and the pacing in red riding rise is insane.

Here's a short read, Cracking Ibiza, easy and light (on amz) friends making a craft beer bar work overseas, amongst the hedonism of Ibiza.
