You forgot to test them in freezing cold weather, where OA3 would win since it can record for more than 2 hours in -20c. Also Gopro still freezes up where you have to take out battery, and sometimes it just stop recording so you can never trust it. Would like to see this comparizon against Insta360 ONE RS, since it is about same price as OA3 but sharper than gopro.

Thanks for the great camera comparison. It's not a determinant, but I think it's worth mentioning about additional options like startrial, timewarp, etc. . It's a tough decision and I definitely want to buy a camera. Gopro gives more details, but stabilization in dji is so smooth and cool.

I moved from GoPro to DJI some years ago, its like DJI is apple compared to Android on the Gopro, a far better operating system - also like Mac to Windows. If you want no issues works every time, no over heating then DJI is a clear winner IMO 👍

Great analysis. I believe there is one other difference that swings it to the Action 3 and that is recharge speed. The GoPro doesn't even come close to the Action in this category.

Thanks for the info. GoPro's better image quality/ higher frame rates, tendency to overheat, and shorter battery life perhaps all stem from more internal computing power. As soon as DJI really fixes the hardware (?) issue of focus, I'll pull the trigger on it as the better value. But not before. Focus is of critical importance to me. Awaiting good news of that fix. Thanks so much for the effort in creating this review. I think each camera has its use case. You've convinced me on the Action 3, where one of my main uses is in a cockpit of a small plane, mounted behind me, with no air conditioning. So needs wide view, long battery life (dont want to mess w/it while flying), and no overheating on those summer days since I cant roll down the window in a plane.

The Osmo Action 3 is my newest camera because it is exactly what I need for my driving videos: Huge FOV, good stabilization, nice colours, great battery life, excellent heat management (for when I shoot with the camera inside the car). Also, OA3 seems to be able to shoot in RAW and offers H.264 as a compatibility feature. I don't shoot in Flat/D-Cinelike or in 120+ fps, and 5.3K is an overkill for my PC, so these features aren't for me to begin with. As for low-light videos, I think that the Osmo Action 3 offers a slightly clearer image than the Hero 11. The magnetic clips seem to handle themselves great under pressure, at least when I tried pushing against the camera in the same way that the wind will when placed atop the windscreen of a moving vehicle, but I'm not sure if I'll be using the OA3 with just 1 clip; I'll probably use both clips to reduce stress and increase safety (maybe make a special base or something...).

Thank you for the great comparative review - it was a pleasure to watch! I agree with your opinion that the warmer colour profile of Gopros is more appealing. Since the most important variable characteristic of a camera is the image quality (other variables can be somehow addressed e.g. extra batteries, better ventilation, etc.), the winner in this comparison is clear to me.

Maybe you could review the Tactacam series. They have a Fishi model wide angle with some lens options. A 5.0 with optical 3x fixed lens with up to 8x digital. Also has 1080p, 2.7k, and 4k options, with some frame rate choices. They also have a newer model I don't know anything about. They are shaped like small tubes which make them compatible with many mounting options. Thanks for the good info on comparison.

Thanks for your comprehensive review. From my perspective the review gives all categories equal priority which I don't necessarily agree with. For example, if the image quality and sound are terrible then the rest of the factors does not matter IMO.

Thank you for this very thorough comparison! I got the GoPro 11 when it came out but i must admit that the DJI is really catching up after the latest upgrades. I don't know if GoPro plans on introducing any improvements on their next firmware upgrade... For example, i'm still pissed off that there's no 10bit color in 4:3 aspect ratio and in timelapse mode. The two things i use the most and why i reasoned upgrading from the GoPro 10 😅 I do really enjoy the extra features that the GoPro Labs firmware gives though...There's a lot of potential there for GoPro...

Very nice detailed comparison thanks, My question on app, something that is hard to find on KZread as no one is talking bout it. For someone who quickly wants to to put together shots on mobile or tablet what app will do the best. I have used GoPro quick and it does work perfect for a quick edit, but how does DJI fair here, Debating between the 2 cameras, but that is a big point to quickly transfer footage and edit them on the go.

Great video, I would have liked a comparison of the horizonstability (or what it's called), I've seen some videos on DJI's camera where it was incredibly good at keeping the horizon...well, horizontal😁. As you mentioned, which you pick is more of a use case and preference than anything else, all three are great. I ordered the Dji Action 3 along with the dual DJI Mic kit - big arguments for me were that the DJI seems to be a bit tougher, and the great battery life.

Ok - the GoPro has a similar horizon levelling feature - but the Action 3 is a great choice!

2:06 the magnetic mount wiggles a bit in the front and back direction, so if you mount it on a bicycle handlebar, the mic will pick up all the rattling noise coming from it when riding on a not so smooth road, search any action 3 cycling video on youtube where they mount it at the handlebar and you will hear the annoying noise.

Thew problem with points given is that they all weight in the same way, but in reality some feature outweigh everything else. For example freezing camera literally destroys any positive thing about the gopro, if the camera freezes there is no better dynamic range or details... as there is no video! Additionally when ti comes to image quality this should be in par with stabilization, so if a camera has good quality in a tripod but is shaky when moving, there is no image quality there, this is an action camera and stabilization is augmenting the details and quality of the image. These tiny features make me cling towards DJI more because in the end of the day the footage is amazing and you won't always compare it to a gopro side by side. The cinematic look is also better, ultra realistic sharp details aren't also always better.

thanks for simplifying, as I listened I could add my own weighting to various factors. The resolution and focus and image quality make the Hero 11 my choice.

Hey, you have not mentioned that as best of my knowledge, only hero11 has gps module. In a comparison video that also might be important

I'm surprised that you compared the overheating but not the shutdown time in the cold below 0⁰C. My old beloved Hero 8 was absolut junk because it works only a few seconds at -10⁰C. The Hero 11 with the new accu is a big improvement. It worked over 5 minutes. How is your experience with the DJI?

I’ve been studying action cameras. At the moment I have never owned or used one. However, watching this review I would subtract 5 points from the mini simply because it has no screen and most settings have to be done through a phone app. The winner as far as picture quality goes to the GoPro 11. That said, the dji cameras pictures are still very good. The fact that the dji doesn’t shut down from overheating is a serious factor! In addition, the battery life of the dji is really impressive, especially as opposed to both hero 11s. And considering that the dji is $100.00 less than the hero makes it my absolute choice between these three cameras. Now, in consideration of price, value, quality, and features, from my own in depth time consuming research, the best camera overall is the Hero 9. It does everything well, cost less, than any of these three plus it allows the use of the same media mod and the Volta tri pod/handle that has a built in 4500mAh battery the camera plugs into as well as a built in remote. So, the GoPro 9 black would be my choice. And with the savings in price would allow me to purchase the accessories I want rather than a bunch of junk accessories. GoPro 9!

I'm also new to this hobby and want an action camera for an upcoming trip to Europe (forcefully retired). I tend to drool over the latest and greatest and the most "stuff" etc. In reality, I want 1. Quality video and stills but does not have to be "the best". 2. Quality build. The older I get the more "casual" I am with my gear. 3. Simple and quick to use. I don't want to have to dig out reading glasses and then fumble with a deep digital menu system. Thanks for your insight. It was very helpful.😊

I hope you will make update comparison before summer :D still thinking about action 3, this image is has something cinematic (colors and not oversharp image), less distortion and more smooth stabilization, because of it i'm not so confident to buy hero 11. The biggest problem for me is problem to buy action 3 without focus issue and this dynamic range...

If you continue as one channel keep splicing in the cut stone after you find it. It keeps it very relevant and adds interest. On the flip side, a rock cutting/ polishing channel dedicated to cutting those finds would be interesting. The Rugged Rock Cutter

IF the Action 3 is getting Gyroflow support, it will be my winner for FPV use. it seems your Action 3 is still a bit out of focus. you can just screw out the lens around 5-10°. its no big deal, i would never send it back for this reason. what i like about the action 3 is the unbeatable field of view and never overheating. this is the most annoying point and total no go. the better quality is useless, when you dont have a video!! :-) The action 3 is not so far behind in picture quality but a lot cheaper. i also like the mount system fron the Action. for evry day fpv use, this could be a big deal swapping to another quad in just seconds and WITHOUT adjusting the angle each time! this was never mentioned even in FPV comparisons.

Its just about weighting things in comparison. To me, the video quality is by far the most important thing and the gopro just seems to deliver way more in this aspect. The action has some nice extras but I dont see them being worth the same

I saw a lot of KZreadrs complaining about the battery and overheating issues. If you cannot rely on a camera when you need to record something serious, then how can this camera be an action camera? The reliability of GoPro is surprisingly decreasing instead of rising year after year. This is a big NO NO for a that kind of camera.

Can't agree more with your comments. Gopro pissed me off so many times because of its super short battery life and over heating issue. DJI action will definitely be my next choice. Thanks for the creator.

And not a word about 360 degree stabilization on the gopro 11

Regarding GoPro and DJI this is definitely the best action camera video comparison I have seen after days of research on KZread and the Internet. I think the KZread creator is Swiss, I’m looking to get an action camera specifically for a trip to Grindelwald and Zermatt in Switzerland. I’m leaning towards the GoPro because the image quality seems to be better but only slightly, but I’m really worried about the overheating issue because I would like to take longer videos.It’s a difficult decision! I’m too old to be doing anything extreme action related, but will be taking a lot of video with myself and my wife whilst we travel.

The Action 3 is definitely a good camera - especially when it comes to battery life and overheating. Whether overheating becomes a problem with the GoPro ultimately depends on your intended use - do you really want to record in 5K, do you need high framerates like 60fps, how warm is the outside temperature, etc.? Ah and by the way: I am from the Italian Alps - South Tyrol

My wife and I are just looking for a camera that takes really good quality video. We just purchased the GoPro 11 and we think the video quality is awesome and we are really looking forward to using it in Switzerland and Austria. After looking at our recent footage there seems to be some slight blurry, sharp looking outline around human figures, but when looking at your video of you skiing we also noticed this strange blurry outline separating you from the backdrop of snow so perhaps that is something normal with this camera. Trying my best to get rid of that outline which is quite visible especially when there is motion, but if I can’t get rid of it it’s not a big problem. Your channel really helped me to choose the appropriate camera for our honeymoon to Europe, thank you so much and hopefully we can visit your beautiful country as well in the future!

I’m in the market for a new action camera. I’ve narrowed it down to either the Insta 360 rs twin edition or the Insta X3. Which of these do you think would be the best beginner camera since I have never had an action camera before but I want something to shoot 360 videos, regular single lens videos and also selfie footage. I want the easiest to use and edit that will work for mostly bike riding, motorcycle riding at 30 to 50 mph and some action footage of my 2 dogs and my sons soccer games. And to record out on the golf course, hitting the ball, putting, etc? I think you have a very good knowledge of these cameras and might be able to steer me in the right direction between the two. Outstanding review. The Action 3 lack of focus on closer subjects is truly a deal breaker, considering many people lunch their KZread channels with actions cams, for lack of funding or space.

Unscrew or screw the lens a little and it will be fixed, there are videos showing how to fix the focus yourself.

@@PawFromTheBroons Of course you shouldn't have to fix it, but many people expected the firmware to fix that (which is impossible) or send it back to be fixed while waiting for weeks to get their camera back. I hold DJI responsible for two things: -->First the they didn't do quality control for the lens and then when they saw people had an issue with focus they didn't come out with the explanation and tell everyone how easy it is to fix it while making confusions to "the camera is not sharp enough" which is not the case. -->Second because they released an awesome camera without the 10bit ability, every major youtuber took the DJI-O3 and GoPro11 on launch day and made comparisons and that didn't do justice on DJI-O3. Most of the comparison videos are from the release date and these are the ones most people will come across. Some people made updates on the 10bit but the most viewed videos are before the 10bit upgrade.

I wish the go pro had 422 10 bit rather than 420. And that it had a 1 inch sensor.

Over here in Malaysia, surprisingly the GoPro is slightly cheaper with a whole ton of accessories (third party of course, but good enough to start with) compared to the OA3 Adventure Combo. With the focus issue still being a hit and miss as well as considering that customer service here isn't as friendly to exchanges like they are in the states or Europe, the GoPro in my opinion was and still is the best choice. Great comparison though! Very well thought out and thorough!

You can fix the focus by yourself by screwing in/out the lens. There are a ton of video about how to fix it and make it as sharp as it can get.

You mean hiking? Both are great - it really depends if you prefer the image of the GoPro or the one of the A3 - and the Action 3 has a much better battery life and no problems with Overheating

I think the overall comparison you provide is relatively accurate and both are very comparable to each other BUT some of those "no scores" seemed a bit harsh when at least 1 point should have been given for the Action 3. Seemed like you gave the 11 and mini more of those 1 pt "participation points" when the A3 got 2pts, but you gave a 0 to the A3 disproportionately when the 11/mini tied and got 2pts, give 1/0 or 2/1 since there is no longer 3 camera's competing in some of those categories, otherwise I would ask that you force yourself to give 2/1/0 for every category. I would be curious to see who would come out on top then with adjusted and "fair" scoring. There were also some features for both cameras that either weren't mentioned or glossed over that could have swayed points in either direction IMO (ie media mod vs just using a usb c mic on the A3 with no adapter needed or the dji wireless mic directly, or the A3 with 30watt fast charge that gets you 80% charge in 12 mins so you dont need 5 batteries, or that the base of the A3 is actually magnetic and you dont need any mount on a steel/magnetic surface for it to be stable... along with other examples). yes, i am a current A3 owner, but previous gopro owner from 4-8, then switched to dji with the original action (1). i'm not trying to say that one is better than the other, because it could go either way based on your needs and opinion on picture quality and other features of each camera.

My Hero 7 is mounted on motorcycle handlebars, street bike. Would you trust the OSMO magnetic mount to not come off with vibration at highway speeds. Hero 7 with largest SD card at 1080/30fps records over 7 hours. Would the OSMO get better than that with the largest SD card it can take? What is the largest SD card it can use? You tested my other issue. Hero 7 stops working in summer time heat, street traffic. Sometimes it says, repairing video, which is GoPro code for, just lost you footage. Sounds like the OSMO 3 is my next action cam as long as SD card holds 7 hours of footage.

Owner of OA3 here: It's not "purely" magnetic, it's clamp with a magnet, so you still need to push it on the sides to unlock it before going against magnetic force… Still, it's ultra fast and easy…

Im currently using the dji oa3 and I have already used it riding my scooter just not in the handlebars but while moving at above 80kph transfering the camera from the helmet mount to the selfie stick. Just secure it in the mount and you're good to go.

@@MeAndMyRoyalEnfield that depends on the usage whether continuous recording or not. mine lasted for a day with a 40+ mins of extra (according to the camera) with a mix of 1080p, 2k & hyperlapse I just had to charge it over and over since I only have a single battery. I have a 128gb sandisk

I have it wired to my Royal Enfield motorcycle's USB port so don't have a battery charging issue but wanted to make sure with the largest SD card that I could ride for 7 hours without having to put a fresh card in. Hello, very good video! maybe you could clarify some doubts for me? I have the hero 9, but I don't really like the gopro color, because sometimes it gives a lot of shadow, it darkens the shadow areas a lot (I don't know if because of the saturation or the contrast, I'm new to it), or for example in the snow, It looks too bluish, it bothers me especially in dark areas, the tone is very bluish. I see a warmer image with my eyes. Does this have a solution with the camera itself, perhaps with the color temperature, etc. but without post-production? I don't find the flat color attractive either. So I wonder if the natural color of the hero 10 and 11 can improve this a lot? Another question, I am not able to edit a video, touch up color and light, export it with the same characteristics as the original, and not lose some quality. If the shadows are too dark for you the footage may have too much contrast - yes the natural color profile may help with the colors if you don't want to edit the footage. If you use the right software you should not loose too much quality just by color grading the clips.

I have a hero 9 aswell and I personally consider every shot that I accidentally had gopro colour on to be unusable, I always shoot on flat. I was actually flying fpv at a drift event recently and when i switched to 60 fps i forgot to switch out of gopro colour and I never posted any of those shots. You can change whitebalance from auto to a specific kelvin value to make it warmer or colder.

Yes, they are shots in winter, with somewhat low sun, and sunny areas and others in shade, but I see that the camera darkens the shady areas of a sunny hillside too much, for example, a dark spot barely shows the trees, their vegetation. the sensation is like wearing sunglasses, I understand that the camera tries not to burn any shots and tends to do that, but it seems a bit dark to me... I doubt whether to give up the 9 because of the natural color theme of 10-11, now that hevc is doing badly for me, and I think number 10 is even more contrasted. Greetings!!

@@cinialvespow1054 thank you! yes, raising the color temperature in the snow helped, but colors still seem to me not true to what I see (yellows that are oranges, greens that are not how I see them, red that turns pink, etc). Flat, unedited, I don't like it, it's more faithful, but there's a lot of light and it looks less defined, maybe it has almost no contrast, and it's paler, of course. A pity that I can't find the optimal middle ground with this camera. Greetings!

I love the Action 3, but the fact that there is no optional Remote for it, makes it less usefull for me as a watersports enthusiast. I feel most reviewers no longer take this into account anymore when reviewing action cams.

I use ulanzi remote for my gopro on my motorcycle handlebar. Very useful to control camera and monitor battery. Hope Ulanzi makes one.

so difficult a choice im agonising over it, I want the battery life and form and functinality of the dji, in some cases I even prefer the image, but the gopro seems to have consistently an edge in detail and dynamic range. The price is similar now and I almost feel bad buying a camera for reasons other than image quality.

Not a bad comparison though I feel you gave points to the Action 3 that should have easily gone to the Hero 11 in most areas dealing with the image. Also, a magnetic mount sucks when it comes to action sports like snowboarding or water sports because if you wipeout the impact is more than enough to dislodge the Action 3 from the magnetic mount!

OA3 is the king clearly. A far behind lead against the go pro since you never give points on OA3 for most of the comparison.

The overheating is a deal breaker for me. I wanted a gopro, but a camera that can overheat so quickly is of no use to me. My content is primarily gardening and beekeeping in full sun. Unless they find some kind of fix I am going to have to skip the gopro.

Didn't see anyone mention it - you got price wrong: OA3 is $330 GP11m is $400 GP11 is $500 330 and 400 doesn't seem "roughly same price" for me…🤔

Also I disagree with your sound test I believe the action three sounded the best by far in fact much clearer not quite as deep but icy clearer . but also better in the wind test . I actually think you shortchanged the DJI in these categories I realise it is subjective.

We buy these for picture quality, which GoPro wins. Too much points are taken in consideration here

That GoPro is like the WinFeces I mean Windows 98: glitches and freezes just when you need it most. In fact you have to spend twice as much to ensure you capture the moment: you have to have two GoPros (doesn't matter from the 7 to the 11) so that if one glitches out or freezes you still have the other. What a piece of shit in this day and age. All the specs mean nothing when your GoPro freezes. I know as I have four of the GoPro Hero 7 Blk. The one advantage is that GoPro has HDMI out on the Hero 7 (but not the 10 or 11). I'm switching over to Action 3.

Try real low light situation, where even 1600 is not enough.

None of these cameras is really usable at ISO 1600 and above

gopro 11 isnt a huge change from the 10. i think gp are sitting on their hands and will be over taken due to their lack of innovation

TBH most of the footage will be posted into Instagram Reels or Tiktok so is the DETAIL PIXEL PICKING matters? Go Pro were good but its unreliable in REAL world!

I ended up choosing the Hero 11 as, while it's a buggy thing, the video quality is just a bit better. And that's what matters.

For my point of view Go Pro 11 is the winner

Mountains with what lighting will a £100 camera produce high quality video. If you dive 20m and 40m then DJI 3 has noise is useless GoPro camera wins! there is nothing to compare

Nobody seems to be mentioning setup and the app. You can't even activate the OA3 if you have an android phone newer than 3 years old. I was glad I hadn't thrown out my Samsung S20. And then there's the transferring media. With a newer android phone you have to get a compatible card reader and transfer the SD card every time. Gets old. iPhone users won't have this problem BUT the DJI app is really terrible. The soft focus thing is really increased in low light indoors too. To the point where the camera is unusable for vlogging or similar below a certain light level. The DJI gains in external mic connectivity though. Plugging in a USB-C mic without having to use adaptor or media mod is a real bonus. Gopro still has it for me but only just.

My two action 3 cameras set up fine using a 1 month old pixel 7, using the app the video transfers quickly and smoothly to the phone.

@@ItsAllJustBollox should also say, since the last updates, my S20+ won't find the camera now either. I can connect manually to the camera wifi after changing the band and the app appears to still work. S22ultra just doesn't see anything. You can't get into the wifi settings before activation of course so this won't work at first attempt.

@@ItsAllJustBollox I have 2 DJI cameras have tried with s20+, s21 and S22ultra. DJI and android have an issue. They seem to have parted ways. I hope they resolve it. Did you actually check the compatibility list I posted? It will soon be the case that unless you have apple, or a pixel 7 that somehow defies the common trend, you won't be able to activate your camera.

I think you’ve unfairly awarded points and the number of points in certain categories Ie. In battery life, the Action 3 should have got 3 points the 11 1 point and the mini 0 There was a few times this happened 💁‍♂️

I have watched both your reviews. Very in-depth! However, in some areas I disagree on points awarding. The price thing is this last one for instance. GoPro, perhaps intentionally, has priced the GoPro Hero 11 at a significant discount. In fact with that discount, plus getting their equivalent Accessories Bundle, and finally even throwing in the Media Mod, it was just a little bit more expensive than the DJI Action 3 Adventure Pack (within maybe $20 CDN at most). In fact, if I didn't have to pay duties and taxes shipping to Canada, what I received would have been less expensive than the DJI. GoPro is the clear winner on that front.

Hero 11 has a way better screen, Dji is so laggy

All this Stabilization Features are out of interest for me. Who wants total artifical 100% Stabilization in his Videos? This is maybe interesting when working with a Tripod for some action-free shots but in everything else this makes Videos just boring and you wont experience the what is really happening because everything is just smoother than actually being there in real life. I think the GoPros just evolved perfectly, will be interesting what the future will bring with bigger sensors and how the heat will be handeled.
