The Best 3D Printer From Creality? K1C Review - This Is Not What I Expected

The Creality K1C is not the 3d printer I expected it to be.
There are a number of things that they have got right and a couple they might have got wrong but, by the end of this video, you'll see why I believe this is the best Creality 3d printer I've ever owned.

    I'm glad it's an improvement over the K1, but I have seen others still have VFA issues. I don't think Creality has a great extruder design. For my money, I'd definitely go with a Q1 Pro. The Qidi X-Plus 3 has a heated chamber and much larger build area for the same price as the K1C not on sale. The Q1 Pro has a heated chamber and slightly larger build area for slightly less money with a coupon, even when the K1C is on a deep sale like now. I do think this is the best machine Creality has to offer, but I hope the K2 is an improvement still.

    Great review. As a K1 owner I have not encountered most of the issues you mentioned. The bed mesh was one I struggled with, but after re-setting the belt and printing some spacer to put under the mounting points the mesh was within acceptable tolerances. That being said, there is one issue that you haven't mentioned nor tested with your K1C (at least you didn't mention it). TPU filament through the sensor and PTFE tubing causes all types of issues. They all come down to the extruder gear having too much resistance to feed the filament without jamming. The solution is a "tower" with a bearing spool holder that sits on top. You have to remove the lid to get it installed and working. Once installed it does print TPU well, even NinjaFlex. Of course you have to trick the filament sensor by putting a piece of filament inside. I know the K1 had it's share of bad reviews, but I've been happy with mine. I've printed PC, PA, ASA and ABS without issue. I did replace the OEM build plate with a standard (bumpy) PEI plate. I haven't had to use any adhesive for any of these and have not seen any adhesion issues. Last, you mentioned opening up the firmware. I've done so with success. It does indeed offer more features. Some are very much needed. However, the down side is when the Creality updates get posted the printer wants to replace your hard work with the newer OEM version. I made the mistake of installing an update and just haven't taken the time to put the unrestricted version back on my system. It seems to work okay with the OEM firmware.

    ha, same, printed shims to level the bed and apart that have not done anything besides putting a CHT nozzle and it's been printing hundreds of prints with no failures at high speeds. Really hard to tell why some videos hate K1 or have troubles with it.

    A1 is my 12th printer and it blows the K1 out the water, not always in speed, but in ease of use and reliability it's incredible. Especially on sale for £419 with AMS lite

    I had an A1 with AMS lite prior to their recall, and it's pretty much perfect for PLA. Aside from it requiring quite a lot of desk space (without the top mount) the A1 is a pretty fantastic printer for those who care about "just printing". It's a bit slower than many of the core x-y printers, but not materially so. 10% to 20% extra print time is something you'll never worry about...and if you do you can often tweak the slicer configs to regain the time. Hopefully you're having fun with your new A1!

In terms of the vfa’s I did have that but I doubled speed and accel and that got rid of it

    For me, nothing matters as much as a solid heatbed. But seeing that they are still unable manufacturing flat and perfect heatbeds, I always feel satisfied when I think about my X1C and how low the maintenance is with bambu printer. I really tried hard liking my ender 3 s1 pro, building an enclosure and upgrading it with stuff, but the heatbed was always a bottleneck in terms of quality. I hope I will never again have to level each and every stupid corner of this hardcore uneven bed... so ridiculous that I have to use tinfoil to make it somehow work... never again creality.

    They are both on sale right now. K1C for $415 USD on crealitys aliexpress store. P1S for $600 USD on bambus store. Not really but kinda in the same price tier. Here's a comparison: K1C advantages: - Open source firmware (some people couldn't care less, some people see it as absolutely essential) - Nice, large, easier to use touch interface - Camera is waaaaaay better - Comes with hardened nozzle (can buy hardened Nozzles for P1S, but it's an additional charge) - Replacement nozzles are way cheaper (since you don't have to buy the whole hotemd with it) - Bed temp gets hotter (both spec sheets say 100c, but K1C actually accepts gcode for 110-120c). This is a bigger deal than you may think, since some high temp materials do a little better with temps just over 100c P1S advantages: - Slightly better print quality (but i mean very slight, you probably wouldn't notice in practice) - Slightly better first layer (again, probably imperceptible in the real world) - Waaay better customer service - Supports bambu lab's excellent AMS multi material add on - Can actually get .2mm nozzles from OEM (with K1C you can get them if you upgrade to the microswiss hotend, but it's still annoying as hell that creality makes a proprietary nozzle then doesn't sell .2mm) - Quicker to change nozzles - Nozzle brush isn't attached to bed, so you can use double sided beds (K1C can fix this with easy mod) - Print volume is a little bigger (filament cutter cuts into print volume a little, but you can get around that when not using AMS, and anyways it's still a little bigger)

  • @ThatsPety

    @ThatsPety

    Oh just thought of one more advantage for the P1S. The Bambu smartphone app is better than the Creality one. Of course, you can just use a fluidd app for the K1C which would be way better, but theres one problem: you lose remote print monitoring. You can get around this by just using a vpn to tunnel to your home network, but beginners don't want to do that shit. Of course, that method would allow you to monitor prints remotely without your camera feed (which can potentially see inside of your house) going through some company's cloud, which some may see as a huge advantage. Also worth noting that the Bambu app has some other features you may or may not care about (and the Creality app does have most of those features tbf, but I just find that it's cluttered and unpleasant to use) I'm sorry that point was so intense lol, it's pretty nuanced but overall the smartphone companion app experience on the Bambu is a pro for the P1S. How big of a pro it is depends on your needs

    I sacked Creality after spending a small fortune with them on various printers through the years, all them had issues and Creality only ever tried to fix one of them, The Ender 5 Plus, and their FW fix made it worse. I didn't even consider buying a K1 as I knew it would be a disaster, I got an X1 Carbon Combo. I wonder if Creality will make future FW updates for the K1? now that they have the K1C out and the K2 just about ready for their customers to beta test it. LOL
