The bells of St Mary, Diptford, Devon

The bells of Diptford are one of the South Hams better rings of six.
The bells themselves date from 1822 and were cast by Thomas Mears of Whitechapel, they were re-hung in a 2 tier cast iron frame by Taylor's in 1950 with bells 2, 5, 6 below and 1,3, 4 above.
They go well but due to the 5th and Tenor being hung on the lower level it is hard to pick out some of the other bells especially in the bottom of the rise and lower. They are marginally better acoustically with the west door open as this recording shows.
As expected from a Mears six, they are thick castings and start off heavy for what is essentially a 12cwt six, you would expect a slightly bigger Tenor on the end, probably around 14cwt.
Diptford, 6 bells, Tenor 11-3-12 in G.
Enjoy.

Rang here in 1994. We had an audience - the primary school were brought in to watch us, little bright wondering faces.
