The Beginner's Guide to Truffles

Yolo, brothers and sisters. Today is all about truffles. Fresh truffles. You know, those mysterious nuggets of funk that cost about as much as half of one of Jay-Z’s yachts by weight. Since beginning a career in culinary a little over a year ago I’ve been curious in truffles; what they are exactly, how to use them, where they come from, etc. I’m a curious boi, what can I say. This video is meant to remove the veil of eternal darkness shrouding truffles, and to educate you all on the mysterious luxury ingredient. So that you know what you’re getting into, the questions I answered in this video are written out below. Happy cooking, family. 🤘🏻Adam
What are truffles?
What do truffles taste like?
Are there different types of truffles?
How are truffles collected?
How do I store fresh truffles?
How do I use fresh truffles?
Why TF are truffles so expensive?

I am from Qatar .My family love to spend time looking for truffle . This year only my uncle gave me 2 kilos of white truffles .we cook them within a week from finding them , usually with rice or in the oven with butter or even in the microwave and the taste is still powerful . I think boiling truffles with rice is the worst method , yet it is the most popular way to eat it in the Arabian Gulf .

I dug up something underneath a tree stump. I noticed hundreds of little tiny mushrooms growing and then seen this weird thing half buried around the mushrooms. When I dug it up it was a slimy oval shapped thing, lol. When I split it open there was a round white substance inside. Not sure if this is a truffle. But when I started digging, there are hundreds of these things. Not sure what they are. There is root system that's connecting to the mushrooms growing on the ground

There are many species,of Truffles over 40 in fact, though relatively few of them have a real market value. Cultivated varieties include: - Black or Perigord truffle (Tuber melanosporum) - Winter truffle (Tuber brumale) - Summer truffle (Tuber aestivum var. aestivum) - Burgundy truffle (Tuber aestivum var. uncinatum) - Oregon Black Truffle (Leucangium carthusianum) - Oregon White Truffle (Tuber oregonense) Not all truffle species are commercially available in the trade.

I am definatly no expert on terminology but somthing about using the phrase "plant species" has always seemed to me a better fit in describing somthing sentient (although in all likelihood it probably is the correct way to phrase it) such as "animal species". Iv always felt like the term "plant variety" made better fit than "plant species" but on the other hand that's probably why I dont get paid to define proper terms for various things.
