The Beauty and Brutality of Nature

The stoat was brutal in the way it dealt with the rabbit more than twice its size. It was hard to watch, it actually caught another before this but I scared the stoat and the rabbit got away. Not so lucky for this fellow though, the cries were terrible to hear but nature can be very cruel. A lovely Red Squirrel returned the balance.

Its a stoat bud, from the same family but about quarter the size of a pine marten. Vicious little sod. It chased one rabbit across a field, luckily got away. Take care. Mick.

To witness a stoat at work like that is a rarity. To get it on film rarer still. Outstanding footage, thanks for sharing that.

Thank you. I've only caught a fleeting glimpse of them in the wild before. I first saw this fella chasing a rabbit back and forth across a field, 5 minutes earlier and I would have had footage of that, luckily that rabbit got away. I waited about half an hour and the stoat popped up again, this time he ran past me and grabbed another rabbit, I followed him trying to get the camera ready when he suddenly let go and the rabbit escaped. I waited again and he ran and grabbed another one in the ferns, this was the footage I got. Amazing to see his determination and strength so close up and very lucky to get it on camera. Take care. Mick.

Thank you. Saw him chasing a rabbit across a field otherwise would've missed this. Still had to stand quiet for ages till he popped up again. The first rabbit he grabbed got away as he let go when he saw me. This one not so lucky. Take care. Mick.

Sheer luck Peter, just in the right place at the right time. I first saw him chasing a rabbit across a field, that rabbit ran for his life and escaped. I then waited and the little sod popped up right at my feet, ran past me and grabbed a rabbit, I went over and he let the rabbit go so that one escaped too, the next one not so lucky. He was a vicious wee sod and very strong to move the rabbit which was twice his size. I'm just back from Scotland, took Nathan up Ben Macdui but the weather was terrible and we got blasted haha and also Meall na Teanga and Sròn a' Choire Ghairbh on the only clear day I had last week, the rest of the time was low cloud so not as many hills as I was hoping for. Hope you're keeping well bud. Mick.
