I grew up with the Beatles and was in high school when John Lennon was assassinated. I've seen this thing probably close to 50 times now, including lots of reactions, and it still makes my allergies act up every time.

Hey Steve (my name as well), I was 14 when John Lennon was (sadly😢) murdered... It was a Monday night and I heard Howard Cossel's announcement live on 'Monday Night Football'. Only a month earlier I had received John (and Yoko's) new album ' Double Fantasy' and couldn't wrap my teenage mind around it... and to this day I just can't understand the amount of EVIL that was at work to get someone to SHOOT A BEATLE IN THE BACK!! So we were both affected by that... I wish you and your child well! Fab-4 / 4-Ever!✌️

We will never know for sure what John was writing about with this beautiful song. We will all have to think about what it means to us as we listen. There will never be another BEATLES, EVER! Thanks for sharing.

Yes, the meaning of the title is still, and probably always will be, an Enigma. But-- John wrote ''For Paul' on the Casstte cover. AND, apparently, Johns last words to Paul were, ''Think of me. Now and then old friend''.

I was 9-years-old when The Beatles first appeared on The Ed Sullivan show, February 9, 1964 -- their first national exposure in the US. On that date, Ringo & John were 23, Paul, 21, & George, 20 (2 weeks shy of 21) - that's how VERY young they really were!!! I LOVED them immediately, feelings that never waned, & they have been the most prominent & beloved band on the soundtrack of my life ever since. Naturally, I was eagerly awaiting Now And Then, & I heard it on the radio the day it was released. I liked it, & fully appreciated it for what it is. The next day, I watched the video. WOW!!!!! I had goosebumps & tears all at once . . . what a powerful, heartfelt video, accentuating phenomenally poignant lyrics in the context they were used. Just beautifully done. Stunned by how emotional it is. And I absolutely LOVE the song!!! Everyone should watch the video & love it, too!!! Without a doubt, the absolute best music video I've ever seen in all the years of music videos!!!!! A true masterpiece!!! Facts everyone should know -- John Lennon, who wrote this song & is singing lead, was murdered in NYC on Dec 8, 1980, 10 years after The Beatles broke up. He was 40 years old. George Harrison laid down some guitar work to this song in 1995, which is used. Sadly, he died of cancer on Nov 29, 2001, age 58. As you mentioned the nostalgic feeling that you get when you see this video is undeniable. A great song and a great tribute to the greatest band of all time.

At the moment of watching young Ringo smiling and playing the drumms and staring at his older counterpart, then the strings entered into action, and the chorus..., I got blown away! Then tears in my soul...

This song & video gives me such nostalgic vibes. I grew up with the Beatles music as a young girl. This also makes me a little sad since John & George are no longer with us (John was murdered in 1980 & George died of cancer in 2001). But I like the video showing them all together. I am sure Paul & Ringo loved doing this tribute & it must have brought back a lot of fond memories for them. The Beatles had a great sense of humor that is shown by some of the flashbacks & like seeing the costumes from Sgt. Pepper's album.

I actually heard this on the radio the other dy and it gave me goosebumps.

I cried several times watching and listening to this magical tune because it touched all my memories of the Fab Four and all their great music over that whole decade from the 1960’s. Their music will always carry forward!

This is brutally magnificent. The older you are, the deeper this hits. I can't stop watching this video, and it brings me to tears every time. How I miss those days when EVERY Beatles song was NEW! They truly are the Beethovens of popular music. Your reaction mirrors those of millions. Thank you for your honesty.

Such joy! I was 12/13 when they landed in the U.S. after months of repeated radio and 45 repeats. The malaise of the country being quite upside down after Nov 22 was like a rebirth to us kids. They seemed so old but they were really just young men. Thank you for the review

tears of joy at first because we got a new Beatles song and it's good, then tears of sadness because this is it. But not a bad way to end it.

The last thing John said to Paul was every now and then think of me my friend. I'm so glad they got this out. RIP John and George ❤

The ending is the most difficult to watch coz it's their final bow together as the world's greatest band & it's over tho their music will cross generations to come & will never fade away.

Every time I hear the line “I MISS YOU” and the McCartney/Lennon harmony it gives me chills. IF there is one video that really grips your heart strings its this one. Missing John and George (my favorite). Can you imaging the music these four could have put out has it not been for loosing John to an evil man and George. Music when it was pure in melodic quality. Non-pretentious and no autotune nonsense.

It’s beautiful and so many emotions are coming to the fore.

Can you imagine.. a band that split up in 1970....still has thís impact. I was blown away too, btw. A masterpiece, full of sad happyness.

It was established that the words “For Paul” were written on the cassette with the 4 unreleased Lennon tracks in 1995. What isn’t confirmed is who wrote “For Paul” on the cassette. There’s a possibility that Yoko wrote it prior to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction.

Interesting true story about the ending. Peter Jackson wasn't quite sure how exactly to end the video & he approached Dhani Harrison ( George's son) with this idea & Dhani , upon hearing it...started to cry. Peter then knew it was the right way to end the video.

Tons of original Beatles songs had orchestral backing. That was the point of doing it here. It was even arranged by the son of the person (their producer, George Martin) who did that for them at the time. John likely wrote the song about his bandmates, especially Paul. When Yoko gave the demo tape to Paul, supposedly the cassette had something like "For Paul" written by John on the label.

Larryshair, the lyrics are all John Lennon's from the late 70's demo he recorded. The last words he ever spoke to Paul McCartney at the end of a visit to the Lennons was " Think of me now and then old friend." That quote direct from Paul McCartney. All the Beatles had made up, and although they would still have some disagreements, there was nothing anywhere near the fall out at the end of the Beatles. They were like brothers again. Yoko gave Paul the demo tape initially, and it seems that John was thinking about how he missed Paul, as those two were the closest, but also George and Ringo, and the brotherhood the Beatles had. All John's lyrics and sentiments. Hope this helps explain.

John Lennon’s original Now and Then that was on KZread has been DMCA by Apple records so it is hard to find. The original version is just piano and John Lennon vocals. The new version is a full orchestra, Ringo on drums, Paul on guitar, George on bass, (Ringo, Paul, and George added new vocals), and John Lennons original vocals

Well this is the last Beatles song with all four members. So it all comes to an end now. The greatest band of all time has one final bow and in some ways I feel closure. My heart still aches for John Lennon who was taken away too soon but I will smile when I think of him after hearing his last song.

Peter Jackson believes the song pays homage to Paul as the cassette was in an envelope marked " For Paul " . Apparently the orchestra wasn't told they were recording a musical score for The Beatles until afterwards . Can you just imagine what was going through their heads when Paul walked in and told them they were recording The Beatles last song ever .

I've read that the original cassette tape, containing John's voice and piano,had written outside, "to Paul ". Also contained the demos of the two songs "Free has a bird " and "Real Love " that the 3 remaining Beatles finished and were included in the "The Beatles Anthology ".😊 BY THE WAY... you could use this opportunity to REACT TO BOTH 😊... please...please me 😊

The video was brilliant! Especially the ending. Dang, it got me when I rewatched it.

You need to go back and watch the entire video without stopping......will be much more effective.

You really need to watch the 12 minute "making of" video released the day before the song was. Questions answered. And that WAS John singing the lead. It's right there on the Beatles channel. You also stopped the video a few seconds early. Beatles fanatics love the bow, band fades, "Beatles" sign fades, fade to black, fade in the Apple, fade to black again. End of The Beatles.

Peter Jackson did a wonderful job on the video & the song speaks for itself. Only disappointing thing was the cover which is plain & a better design could have been used.

The 12 minute documentary about how this song came to be, available on The Beatles KZread Channel, is definitely worth watching!! Great reaction. Stay safe 🤘 ✌️

To me the beatles are so over rated, and i dont really see the appeal, i like a few songs but on the most i find them boring and "samey" , guess it may be because i didnt grow up in the era and we had other music around or it just be plainly my style choice

@@desj2584 you can look at it 2 ways, timing and era. I understand they covered many genres, but as talent goes , the vocals were samey, and ringos drumming ... well .. lets just say .. suited them (check out his son, a much better drummer trained by keith moon). They were caught up in a hype because at that time there was nothing else, a bit like elvis. As for not being matched, the problem there is what are you matching them on? Popularity? , in this day and age its hard because theres so many outlets for music now such a variation of choices, back then it was limited. You could argue with the likes of one direction, unfortunately manufactured bands like these although gain popularity dont last because its more of a showcase for individuals than dedication of a band. Popularity doesnt mean talent (look at jedward)

Baby boomers all over the globe were just beginning to comprehend the power they possessed-to shape culture and influence society. Miniskirts. Long hair. Etc. All because of us baby boomers. The Beatles were so totally different than anything music had ever experienced. In their early days, The Beatles sang a lot of covers. As time went on, it was primarily John Lennon and Paul McCartney writing music and composing songs. In fact, Lennon and McCartney were among the most successful songwriting teams in music history. Whether you like them or not (and it’s okay if you don’t. I’m not a fan of Mariah Carey), the lasting impact of these lads from Liverpool can never be downplayed. And PLEASE. I respect that you’re not a fan of theirs-but PLEASE do NOT insult those of us who are Beatles fans. Their story is permanently etched upon music history. That can NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. Actually Paul, That-Averagetyp is correct. Early on, I was warned that my channel would be taken down due to copywrite strikes and those videos were taken down. After MUCH research, I found that pausing (even MORE often that I do currently) helps prevent strikes. While this one song, to your point, would likely not be taken down, I'm not wiling to take any chances of losing this channel. Also remember that I'm an old fart and would probably forget what I was going to say about a particular part of the song. I do get your points, but it's how I feel I need to run the channel sagely. Again, I getcah though.
