As a 16 year old who watched John, Paul, George and Pete.....regularly in the lunchtime sessions in The Cavern in 1962, we knew they were going places. I was in the audience the day Mr Brian Epstein came to see what all the fuss was about. Then Ringo joined and the circle was complete. They had an aura thats never been seen before. They were ours, they belonged to us in Liverpool. It was only a matter of time that we knew we would have to share them with the world and we we're happy to do so. They split, i wept like a baby. Then we lost John. The biggest tragedy in musical history. I cried for weeks. The Dream Was Over. Then George passed, another loss....and more tears. Now, all these years later, 2023 they're bigger now than they've ever been. Seeing them together in this video, i have shed more tears. I've loved this quartet for 62 years and i was 78 on the 6th of November, still living in Liverpool and I'll love them til the day I pass away. God bless John, Paul, George and Ringo for all their talents and achievements they have shared with the world. Love, Love, Love ❤❤❤❤❤❤

The music video was directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings). It was the technology he and his team developed for the Get Back documentary that allowed them to extract John Lennon's voice from his demo tapes.

Lifelong Beatles fan here, thank you for reacting to this. About the song and the video are just amazing and pack so much emotional punch. And those clips of John does eclipse of John goofing around is just so essentially John. It brings a huge smile to my face.

In the late 70s, the relationship between Paul and John has healed. One night while Paul and John were together in New York, John said, "Now and then, think of me, my friend." This was one of the last things John said to Paul before he was murdered. In the mid 90s, when the 3 surviving members of the Beatles were working on the "Anthology" projects, Yoko Ono gave Paul cassettes of songs that John was working on. To Paul's surprise, one of the songs was "Now and Then". However, the home recording of "Now and Then" had a constant electrical hum on it and the technology back then wasn't able to enhance the song further. Paul, George, and Ringo worked on the song for about 30 minutes and gave up; some of the footage in the video is from that session. Move ahead another 20 years, after Oscar-winning director worked on the Beatles' "Get Back" documentary, he proposed to Paul that AI should be used to separate John's voice from his piano playing....and that was how this "new" version of "Now and Then" came about. George's guitar work on the song from the "Anthology" session is also used, but Paul played a slide guitar solo in the style of George as a tribute. The strings were arranged and produced by Giles Martin, the son of the original Beatles producer, George Martin.

Don't forget the story that Chet Atkins talked about it In a interview saying he was getting together with Paul McCartney to do some song writing when he showed a song that came to him the night before, part of the lyric was, think about me every now and then my old friend. When he showed that to Paul, Paul walked out of the room, Atkins asked Linda McCartney, asked did I say something wrong? She said that's one of the last things John said to Paul the very last time he saw him. Just like this cassette, that was labeled to Paul, nobody seems to remember that or seen it and nobody knows or barely knows of the meeting when he kept showing up by John and John finally said you can't keep coming here. It's different now, and when he was leaving said. Hey, think about me every now and then my friend. George Harrison didn't care much for this song he called it rubbish but I get it from Paul's point of view to finish this song, because it's a little personal. So for me, listening to the new song. The first time through was like a arrow through my heart. Because it felt like a personal message from John to Paul.

George Harrison didn't think the song was rubbish at all, he very much wanted to do it, but he meant that the recording quality was rubbish in the sense that they just didn't have the technology at the time to separate John's voice out from the piano and the other background noise going on when he recorded his down and dirty home cassette demo. The use of Peter Jackson's AI software was simply the latest evolution in a long string of improvements to be able to isolate different parts of recordings.

This song & video gives me such nostalgic vibes. I grew up with the Beatles music as a young girl. This also makes me a little sad since John & George are no longer with us. But I like the video showing them all together. I am sure Paul & Ringo loved doing this & it must have brought back fond memories for them. The Beatles had a great sense of humor that is shown by some of the flashbacks & like seeing the costumes from Sgt. Pepper's album.

When John wrote this he left a message that this was for Paul.

The lyrics present different possible interpretations. "It's all because of you." could easily refer to the fact they all joined John's band which eventually became super famous. "Now and then, I miss you." could be about John and George, or simply that they all miss one another.

I was 9-years-old when The Beatles first appeared on The Ed Sullivan show, February 9, 1964, & they have been the most prominent & beloved band on the soundtrack of my life ever since. Watching this video, I had goosebumps & tears all at once . . . what a powerful, heartfelt video, accentuating phenomenally poignant lyrics in the context they were used. Just beautifully done. Actually stunned by how emotional this is. Everyone should watch it & love it, too!!! John Lennon, who wrote this song & is singing lead, was murdered in NYC on Dec 8, 1980, 10 years after The Beatles broke up. He was 40 years old. George Harrison laid down some guitar work to this song in 1995, which is used. Sadly, he died of cancer on Nov 29, 2001, age 58. Ringo Starr (now 83), the drummer, & Paul McCartney (81) playing his iconic Hofner bass, are alive & well & still delighting audiences with their wonderful music!!!!! The history of The Beatles, & how their empire was built, & why they are still so very popular, is a story every music fan should know!! According to Carl Perkins, the last words John said to Paul were, "Think about me every now and then, old friend." So, this is was a labor of love from Paul. John recorded the demo tape in 1977. Yoko gave the tape to Paul and George in 1994. The three remaining Beatles tried to produce it in 1995 but they ran out of time and decided to shelve it since they couldn't separate John's voice from the piano and because of the electronic hum. Peter Jackson used machine learning to separate John's voice in 2022 and that allowed Paul, Ringo, and Giles Martin to finish it. Paul did an amazing job on bass and more especially, the slide guitar.

The lyrics "And if I make it through....It's all because of you" could be interpreted as John crediting Paul .It was Paul's determination to see this song saw the light of day John's message, Johns voice is now "Making it through" It's all because of Paul. The original tape given to MCcartney, Harrison & Ringo had the title ''Now & Then' on the front & On the reverse was 'To Paul'' - I think he meant it has a message to the others to finish it off or just a straight note to Paul.

I was about four years old when I heard a Hard Day's Night, in 1964... they were the musical story of my childhood. This video was so beautiful, and painful all at once. I miss them, and the person I was then, too.

my teen years was spent in the 70s and i turned so many people on to the beatles in the 70s and 80s i lost count. (yes, as early as the 70s the beatles were beginning to be unappreciated and forgotten.) many would thank me later if they ran into me. many people said when john died in 1980 the first thing they thought of WAS ME! like all good things the beatles will eventually fade entirely into history. i just thank my lucky stars i was alive to enjoy the wonderful musical and social phenomenon known as "the beatles." thank you beatles for a lifetime of pleasure, great music, controversy and FUN! you helped make my life worth living.

George pulled the whole thing together big ups to Peter Jackson

Paul and John had made up their differences before John's murder. Last words John was supposed to have said to Paul in a phone call were, "Remember me every now and then, old friend.'' Also, the cassette tape that contained the demo of this song was labelled "For Paul" in John's own handwriting.

it was first worked in in 1995 when George Harrison was alive but the technology wasn’t there then to make the song great uplift, as john Lennon’s voice as being muffled out by the piano and the sound quality, so it was left languishing in a cupboard for 27 years. Then when the technology was available in 2022 (developed by Film Director Peter Jackson) to isolate his vocals from his piano playing they decided to work on it again, but by that time George Harrison passed away in 2001, 21 years earlier. You can see clips in music video of him with Paul and Ringo from 1995 when they were recording the other two new tracks (Free As Bird and Real Love) that were also on the tape. Then you see Ringo and Paul together from last year singing. Paul also played the piano to the John Lennon keys of the song so it was clearer and as if Lennon was in the studio, also as a tribute to George he played the electric guitar in his style.

You say you would have loved to be part of the 60s. You would have loved it, and you would have fit right in. I was 9 when the Beatles released their first album. I grew up in the whole insane Beatlemania era. It was great. Then I moved into the 70s and Zappa et al and drumming with my childhood friend Pete Shelley before I bailed out and he formed Buzzcocks. Music is the glue.

I do believe that the song "Now And Then" was written by the late John Lennon after he wrote his melancholic song - "Woman." There are similarities if we talk about the music of both songs.

The one thing that has me puzzled is if John had written "For Paul" on the cassette in 1977 why didn't Yoko (or John himself) have it delivered to Paul THEN and not sit on it until 1994 when the Anthology series was being worked on?

This was written for Yoko. There is a verse they removed,it gives the song its feel that it may be for each other or for us the fans... I'm happy they chose to do it this way...

Yeah, I was playing it safe with this one. I figured the Beatles were so big, they probably had a room full of Lawyers protecting their copyright. I was wrong. I regret that now.

I loved Paul and Ringo was able to make this video. This brought out so many memories of them. My first was the Ed Sullivan show as a child. Please post first to see if there is KZread copy right problems. No need to put it on all of your reactions.

Watch the 2009 film Nowhere Boy. It tells the story of John's youth and how , if not for his aunt Mimi, the Beatles would never have existed! BTW....I've watched around 100 reactions on here & this was first that had copywrite blocked over the video. Why?

I Truly believe this song and video have brought the world together in some way. John's song had nothing to do with Paul or the Beatles the way I see it. it was recorded on the dem tap in 1977 before John said "Think of me Now and Then" to Paul later. The meaning of the song got morphed into this especially with the video. Is the song really that good by itself? Or did the video elevate it 100%? Are we listening with our ears or our eyes?

There are several things that go into it. If a reactor isn't monetizing their video, then they can post it without worrying about the copyright. Sometimes, if you pause enough and break up the video, it will clear the copyright. I always upload a clean version first to see if it will clear the copyright. In this case, the first upload was hit with a copyright claim on the video. The second upload (the one you watched) also received a copyright claim on the audio only. It's a coin flip sometimes.

George Harrison played rhythm guitar on this, it was Paul who did the slide guitar in memory of George. However, that solo l could have been done way better by George with more variety of faster notes perfectly placed.

Lennon wrote the lyrics… they didn’t add to them.
