The Beatles Liverpool Photos - Dublin Street Coincidences

Музыка

The first photos of the Fab Four, the Beatles in Liverpool, were arranged by Brian Epstein with photographer Les Chadwick. We see John, Paul, George, and Ringo on waste ground in North Liverpool. But John Lennon never knew how significant a place this was for him and his family.
Join David Bedford as he reveals the story behind these famous photos of The Beatles. The waste ground they are standing on in North Liverpool was significant to the Lennon family, but John wouldn't have known that.
The reason? Back in the 1840s during the Great Famine in Ireland, JOhn's great-grandfather James Lennon came to Liverpool and settled in Saltney Street, right where John was standing when posing for these photos with his fellow Beatles.
David Bedford is a Beatles historian and author of several books on The Beatles, including his worldwide most popular book, “Liddypool: Birthplace of The Beatles”. Find out more about David at liddypool.com/

    My grandfather must have arrived there in the 1930s. He made the journey after the TB epidemic over in Ireland. A few years later, he sent for my dad and the three other surviving children. Next time I'm in Liverpool, I'm definitely going over to those docks.

    Great Work! My 14 yr old GGrandfather Charles Hayes was shipped to Canada from the Liverpool Sheltering Home. Until he died i Toronto he always maintained he was born in Dublin but I tracked back through his father and grandfather (a Carter) living in one court house after another, but not the Dublin one. Some of the descendants lived around same streets as John's father. Even his right off the boat English wife put down Dublin as birth on death certificate as no one knew he was from Liverpool and had big family there. How he faked Irish accent his whole life is beyond me. Many British Home Children in Canada hid their origins because of the stigma. I'm still clearing his trauma from the DNA.

  • @BrightmoonLiverpool

    @BrightmoonLiverpool

    8 ай бұрын

    Oh, that must be hard. What a sad story that is for all those who were shipped off like that. Terrible. I suppose, if he lived around this area, it was where most of the Irish lived, so he would have heard the accent all the time. And there is a lot of the Irish in the Liverpool accent, too. Well done for your research, even if the results are rarely pleasant, it is necessary and I applaud you. Hope it does bring you some healing.

    The Tobabcco Warehouse (the world's largest brick building) was built way after the Irish famine, in 1901. It was built on a part of Stanley Dock which was infilled to accommodate the building. The Tobacco warehouse is next to the original warehouse, which is to the south, which was on the original quay, identical to the warehouse on the north quay.

    The Lennons came over from County Down but I've never seen anything about where exactly in County Down or anything about their circumstances. The Lennons were warehouse men and shipping clerks in Liverpool and one of them became a catholic priest so they weren't going to be living in a Saltney Street court house for too long. If you look at the census records for where James later lived he did alright for himself in Liverpool and unlike most people at that time they could afford a family grave at Ford Cemetery where James and other family members are buried.

    I worked all along the Dock road in 1958/59 and it was always said that the Stanley Dock Warehouse was built by French Prisoners of war from the Time of waterloo,inSt johns Gardens behind the Georges Hall there is a memorial stone to all the French Prisoners who died in Liverpool at that time the French Consul visits every year and places a Wreath in memory.I knew the Albert dock Warehouses very well and that was where all Tobacco and Rum was Bonded in the 1950s early 60s by the way Dartmoor Prison was also built by French Prisoners..another point to knbow is the Stanley Dock you Show is the only Dock in Liverpool, all the others on the other side of the Dock Road are Mersey Docks and Harbour Property so Technically notr in Liverpool. i watch your Videos a lot i was not into the music those days but interested from a Historical point of view . i live a long way from Liverpool now so like all the History.

    Some historians want to blame the English government for personally starting the famine,just to break the Irish will

    My opinion is that your music is too loud sir. There is also a case that it's annoying and repetitive. Otherwise, good work.

    Great video, but can barely hear the guy over the music. Feels like he has to shout over it!
