The Beatles Last #1 Song was One of Paul's Reasons to Break Up | MusicGeology

Музыка

Paul McCartney was upset with their final chart-topping hit released on their Let It Be album in 1970. John Lennon and George Harrison recruited producer, Phil Spector, who allegedly added some unwanted elements to Paul McCartney's song without his permission. This incident became one of the reasons why he filed a lawsuit to dissolve the band.

I don't think Paul really had so much of a problem with the strings and choir perse but rather he already didn't like that Spector was even brought in by Lennon and Harrison without his consent and Spector didn't run the idea by him first. Remember by that time, McCartney had basically taken on the role as the leader of the band and was accustomed to being hands-on in regards to making decisions on much of what happens in the studio. Add to that, Spector was a rude, controlling, nasty, belligerent character to work with for the most part anyway. (Lennon even had a lot of problems with him later as a solo artist.) So, there was obviously going to be a clash with Spector and McCartney.

no, the strings sucked, I totally believed that Paul hated them like I do -- they were too legato and slow and George would've never composed that rubbish, it would've been much more interesting-- overproduced ... I can't listen to the Spector version to this day...

As George Martin put it, the album credit said "Reproduced by Phil Spector. It should have said Produced by George Martin, overproduced by Phil Spector."

The name of the song isn't in the title and in the description. That's very disrespectful to the audience

Now And Then hit no 1. But Free As A Bird was held up from the number one by Michael Jackson's "Earth Song" But The Long And Winding Road single was only a single in North America, Let It Be was their final single from their "official" UK catalogue and "The Ballad Of John And Yoko" was the final no 1. they had in the UK

Did The Beatles not have 27 songs that went #1 or is the album The Beatles 1 lying to me?

Frankly, among all the beatles' songs, the best ones were the ones that Harrison wrote. Paul and John wrote mostly cheesy materials, while George wrote truly 'classics' and rightly should've contributed more or equally than the cheesy duo.

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! I do rate George and my top 3 include one by each of the Beatles. 'Strawberry Fields' (John), 'Eleanor Rigby' (Paul) and 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' (George). Your suggestion that songs like 'Tomorrow Never knows', 'A Day in the Life' and 'Blackbird' are 'cheesy' is frankly absurd!

John and Paul did wrote classics, but in comparison, I'd say George's were all classics and profound

ALL classics?? You mean forgettable filler like 'Piggies', ''Blue Jay Way' and 'Savoy Truffle' were ALL profound classics like 'Help', 'Yesterday', 'In My Life', 'Nowhere Man'' etc etc etc. You're having us on!! LOL.(BTW I do rate his earliest song 'Don't bother Me' and later 'I, Me, Mine' a lot more than many others did at the time However his solo carrier was mostly like many lesser McCartney and later Lennon solo LP's a massive collection of lame filler. For me his best LP was 'Living In the Material World', that had a majority of very good songs and for once great production with George's best singing and guitar work. That unlike his others including the IMHO terribly overrated BORE 'All Things Must Pass'. I don't think being a sucker for the Maharishi or a Hare Krishna showed ANY profundity or awareness and Lennon rightly mocked his naivete with his underrated cutting piss take 'Sexy Sadie' one of my favorite Lennon compositions! @@sundarmann6167

All George's 'classics' with The Beatles had been contributed to/worked on extensively by his bandmates, the 'cheesy duo' you refer to!

While I understand Paul's point I actually do prefer Spector's additions as they fit and enhance the sad mood of the song. As for the comment below I call it a rubbish point. Just how is it disrespectful?? Makes no sense to me and more to the point it WAS their last #1 single, so NOTHING wrong there!!

Withold information with specific intent to enforce the viewer to watch the content until the end is not exactly nice to people who just want to know what it's about, specially blind or death people who rely on other metadata
