The Beatles - I Want To Hold Your Hand - Performed Live On The Ed Sullivan Show 2/9/64
Музыка
The Beatles performing “I Want To Hold Your Hand Live On The Ed Sullivan Show 2/9/64.”
‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ was the first Beatles’ record to top both the UK and the US charts. It was also their first to be recorded on a 4-track, as opposed to the usual 2-track, tape machine. The Beatles had the song well rehearsed when they made the first of 17 takes on October 17th 1963.
Following The Beatles’ historic appearance on The Ed Sullivan show on February 9th, the single - already at No.1 in the charts - gained further momentum. They taped a performance of the song earlier in the day of their live appearance and it was shown on the Sullivan show of February 23rd, which helped maintain the song’s popularity. This avalanche of publicity, engineered by Brian Epstein, helped the single to stay at the top for seven weeks, which made it the longest-running No.1 of their career to date (until ‘Hey Jude’).

Hmmmm, I don't know that it was the most important. Close, but the onset of Elvis pushing the public appearance envelope with his pelvic moves is definitely in the running. Elvis nearly got banned from broadcasts in the U.S. after his first live tv appearance. There were nearly full on riots over that news. I'd have to say they are about equal. IMHO

Can I just say that early Beatles are just as good as late Beatles? A lot of music fans seem to be focused only on their late period (Revolver through Abbey Road) but they were great since the start, this song being the best example. Even Bob Dylan pointed out them being special saying: "their chords are just outrageous, man" and that was his reaction when he listened to them for the first time, in the early 60's

Tool has some of the most complex metal there is, several 15 minute songs carefully crafted with lots of detail (and I’m sure these songs involved lots of failed takes and overdubs given how hard they are to play). Figures why Tool takes so long to record an album while the Beatles made multiple albums in one year…DURR🤪

日本に来た時に泣きながらテレビを見たのを思い出します
My mom was 5 years old and has always told me the story of watching them on Ed Sullivan for the first time. All of 5 her siblings along with her parents and my great grandfather, who rarely watched Ed Sullivan but he made sure to watch that night because he had heard so much hype. They all crowded around the television and she said by the end of the first song the whole family was hooked. My great grandfather kept saying “son muy buenos, son muy buenos.” Which translates to “they’re really good, they’re really good” . He barely even spoke English but he understood good music when he heard it! So much so that the following day he took my mom to the record store and bought her the first Beatles album which was a huge deal because my mom grew up very very low income so to spend the $1.25 on a record and not on food was like WOAH. And she was so grateful, and she gifted that exact record to me when i started getting into the Beatles as a teenager and i have it hanging on my wall to this day. I like to say I’m fourth generation Beatle fan☺️

I was 6 and their performance of "All My Loving" that night persuaded my folks to admit they had some real talent (we all watched it together, just like your Mom and her parents). His last 5 years he may have found that happiness with Sean. I believe he felt used and abused by the world - they/us/we wanted more from him. But he took time off for himself - but he being John, had to comeback. I actually think his writing got better in the end. Don't you? I can't imagine the amazing songs he would've written had he lived. Most likley partnering with a NY Rapper like KRS One and no doubt reuniting with the boys for Live Aid. 16 years is all we had of him. 1964 to 1980. 16 years that's all. Dude is the most underrated musician in history,. Gets overlooked because of the brilliance of the others, but his drumming is fucking PERFECT. In a lesser band, he would have been considered a drumming god. And he's a solid as hell human being.
And 60 years ago today, I was 10yo watching this on TV with my 13yo sister screaming in my ear. Little did I know then how much would follow.
I Remember dancing with my Mom when The Beatles were on the Ed Sullivan show. Her dad was a professional jazz musician and she knew what good music was.She could sing like a bird we listened to the Beatles together hundreds of times. I remember when I first played the Sargent Peppers LP. When “She’s Leaving Home” played I heard her cry. My older sister had left home and she never returned. The Beatles were a big influence on my childhood and life. Love you and miss you so much Mom…

they really were adorable..!!! love the looks on there faces as they look around the room. unjaded... there simply can't be 3 minutes like that again. ever.
Got to see them live in Minneapolis on their first US tour, and it remains a favorite memory. That's when Ringo walked around a local neighborhood knocking on doors (not ours, alas) and introducing himself, freaking out what there was of security in those days! A few years ago I and a friend finally got to see McCartney live in San Diego, and the energy was still there, better even because we could actually hear him! What a time to be alive, with even moon landings thrown in, taking only 66 years from Kitty Hawk to Apollo 11 - those were the days indeed ;)
