The genius of your ‘lessons/walk throughs” over all other KZread vids is how 1) you give such great back stories 2) you highlight the little nuances of the strumming/intricacies of how they play. 👍🏻

There was me thinking this must be the most simple and straightforward Beatles song ever, then along comes Pachelli to highlight the myriad of subtleties that makes this song so great! Another brilliant expose’ Mike and such good fun to play. Thank you. Btw, I’m off to Perth WA next week and will be jamming with my Beatles loving Son in Law for the first time in 3+ years and he’ll want to know where I learned all this shit! Brilliantly done! George’s parts are Melodie’s on to themselves. The sound they got on guitar here particularly George’s was so “continental” I have seen claims it was a Bazouki! Obviously a 12 string acoustic.

It's so puzzling how the Beatles chose the songs to perform live. They tackled almost impossible things like Nowhere Man but didn't do simpler but excellent songs like this.

Brilliant job, capturing all the little subtleties that separate a Beatles' song from everyone else. You describe John's playing as "nice and loose, just fun playing". My favorite description of his guitar playing on songs such as this one as "Practiced nonchalance". Anyway, you nailed it. Brings back memories of 1965.

Absolute magic as always. Thank you! John was able to generate an emotion in this song which is brilliant. It's a combination of the chords and melody but it creates an effect that is bigger than those two elements. This is one of his best works next to Strawberry, Universe, This boy ah the list goes on... On a less then perfect sound system I always thought the inhalation of breath was a wave breaking on the shore and was the sound of water surging up the beach.

I think John was never given credit for how solid his Rhythm Guitar playing was. I would like to Thank you again for all the time and background info you put into these Outstanding videos

I used to perform this song solo and played the two George Harrison parts as double stops, picking one part with a pick held between the thumb and first finger and picking the other part with the ring finger. It took a little while to work out and practice the double stops, but audiences were pretty impressed by it. Try it.

Another corker of a video Mike. I absolutely loved it. You have picked apart one of my favourite songs from my favourite album not only of the Beatles but of anybody. I have just finished reading the massive book ‘The Lives of John Lennon’ by Albert Goldman, which really reveals his genius and gullibility, his bravado and sensitivity. Just when I thought I’d read everything there was to read about the Beatles, and about John Lennon this book digs even deeper.I recommend it.

I really enjoy your lessons and especially the back stories. I found it interesting that John was so proud of this song but was so ashamed of It’s Only Love, (your previous lesson). While both songs were originally on the US version of Rubber Soul, I must say I like It’s Only Love better. Not that I hate Girl, though. I used to play George’s parts on mandolin back in the day. Sounded really good. Keep ‘‘em coming Mike. You always makes me get my guitar out and have fun. Thanks for your efforts!
