There's 4 major responses to trauma: Fight, flight, fawn, and freeze. Michael fights (even with himself), cousin Michelle runs away, Natalie fawns and tries to make everyone feel better, and Carmen freezes up and disassociates. The family members are all personifications of trauma - both the cause and the effect.

You can hear Mikey and Richie tell the Bill Murray story in the background like 2-3 times 😂 I had to check the family cast/dynamic, Bob Odenkirk is Donna's on again/off again boyfriend. That makes the dynamic between Mike and Lee make so much sense: "We're in MY FATHER'S house..."

So because of the writers strike, Awards season for tv were delayed and the 2024 Emmys did not take into account season 2 of The Bear. Just season 1. Season 2 is eligible next year though, and expecting Jamie Lynn Curtis to win an Emmy for this episode for sure.

Exactly this. The window for Emmy consideration for each television season runs from June 1st of the previous year to May 31st of the current year. Both of the first two seasons of The Bear were released in June each year, so it puts the show at the very beginning of each 12 month TV season, and the awards are typically held 3 months after the end of the season. The third season releases in a few weeks, but this year's Emmys (held in September) will be for S2, even though S3 will have already been released for three months by the time of the award ceremony. The final season of Better Call Saul was split into two parts released just six weeks apart specifically so they could compete for Emmys for two years for the final season. The first 7 episodes were eligible for the 2022 ceremony, and the last six were eligible for the 2023 ceremony (held in Jan 2024). Anyway, Jamie Lee Curtis is pretty much a lock to win for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy (yes, that's really how The Bear is categorized for Emmy consideration), which will be awarded at the Creative Arts ceremony a week or so before the main ceremony. The show in general is going to clean house, with Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach all leading contenders to take home the acting awards again, and Abby Elliott (Natalie) and Liza Colón-Zayas (Tina) are both likely to get nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress this year. The show will win Outstanding Comedy, Outstanding Direction, and Outstanding Writing again (it won all three last year). This episode is going to be a big, big part of what brings it all home (another one will as well, but you haven't posted it yet). I think it is arguably the best episode of scripted television in any category, comedy or drama, for the last TV season which just concluded last week.

I thought when Richie (the actor, I don't know his name off top) thanked Taylor Swift for his Emmy because they submitted him via Forks?

@@jwoginrich that was the Critics Choice Awards. I believe every other awards show this year were based off season 2. The Emmys were just season 1. But The Bear swept awards season this year along with Succession and The Beef.

In an interview Jamie Lee Curtis said when she saw the pilot she turned to her husband and said if they ever have the mother on the show she would play the mother. When they were casting the role several other actors were offered the role before her but ultimately it was offered to her. Hope she gets an Emmy for this great performance. I also help we see some of these other family members in seasons 3 + 4 plus papa bear .

@@rudigerb.4059 I wanna go with Jenny Slate who played Mona Lisa Saperstein on Parks & Rec, but she might be too young? I figure Francine would be around the same age as Cousin Michelle (Sarah Paulson’s character) which could be anywhere to mid 30’s to mid 40’s so…Gina Rodriguez? America Ferrera? Oh wait, how about Juliette Lewis? I remember that character she played on My Name is Earl she was hilarious. As a character I figure she would just be a hot mess. Getting into fights and stuff. Wanna see Suger lose her cool and have to handle her. Go all mama Bear on her.
