My first time watching The Batman (2022). The newest iteration of the Batman is here and it feels right at home in the world it created! I loved how this story unfolded and while this isn't his first day on the job, this is the perfect place to start the narrative. I hope you enjoyed my The Batman movie reaction & commentary

The riddler's obsession with the song was because he sang it as a child at thomas wayne's announcement event. The pictures on his wall show he was there, and the kids were singing it in the video batman and gordon watched at the burnt out orphanage.

Edward sang Ave Maria in the boys' choir, at the event where Thomas Wayne announced the Renewal Fund, and his mayoral candidacy. That's why Michael Giacchino's Riddler theme is basically Ave Maria, that's why it plays at the beginning, and that's why he sings it at Batman. Not really to him, but very much at him.

"So the job's available then?" I like how you're looking out for Gordon's upward mobility. Probably my favorite Batman film, though I must always give due props to The Dark Knight, for Heath Ledger's performance. Colin Farrell was great in this, as was Pattinson and Dano. Hoping for a sequel. Great photography and soundtrack in this, and the writing, particularly the intro, is wonderful.

I've heard a lot of comments, from a lot of folks, about Selina missing Falcone, so it's not just you. But Falcone is excellent at ducking, leading me to believe Selina may have inherited her catlike reflexes from him. But more importantly, it's just very easy to miss a moving target, especially with a handgun. It's like when people say 'Why don't criminals just shoot at Batman's mouth?' For all we know, a lot of them may be trying to! haha Guns aren't magic, and a lot of handguns aren't even terribly accurate, at anything but point blank range. Riddler has a much better setup, to eliminate Falcone. A rifle, on a tripod, with a scope, carefully zeroed in on a stationary target.

The meta aspect of the "vengeance" mindset is fantastic, too. This feels like Mat Reeves walked out of Batman v. Superman going, "I have some thoughts." This movie truly understands both Batman from the comics and the conversation around his adaptations going all the way back to Batman Returns. It says, in my opinion, what the fans have been trying to say for years.

This movie was such a trip. I jumped on it when it came out and 3 hours later I was really wanting more. So here's to hoping they greenlight a sequel. I also recently replayed the 1st Telltale Batman game, and I have to ask: did anybody else see the parallels to that game and this movie? Selina Kyle's and the building of a hospital arc stood out to me as similiarities in the story. Martha being part of the Arkham family is also an interesting addition to the story. EDIT: As for the injures, I will grant you Batman's chin. Alfred managed to throw the bomb far enough away that it looks like the table would deflect most of the flames. As for the mayor, she was definitely hit, as you can see her put her hand on her hip just after Gordon pulls her behind the stage.

  • @SaGeForReal

    @SaGeForReal

The mayor also was receiving treatments and getting bandaged up by medics (who were most likely on standby since the police was there and they are aware that there’s a flood as well as an attack happening. However, I think she got hit on the shoulder not her hip. I agree with you on Alfred, he did recognize it was a bomb and threw it as far away from him as he can, so the table or furniture that was around possibly shielded him from getting burned badly. Either way he mostly got knocked out and got some bruises from the explosion. As for Bruce…yeah he should have gotten burned on his chin or cheek or something. He was literally in front of the bomb. 😂

Other parallels to the Telltale Series include Penguin being nicknamed "Oz", Thomas having dealings with Falcone in the past(Also implied but never confirmed in "Gotham" and one of the exchanges between Bruce and Carmine is lifted directly from "The Long Halloween" graphic novel which also influenced "The Dark Knight"),Selina being Carmine`s daughter like in "The Long Halloween" animated film,Joker already being in Arkham as a John Doe prisoner and being more of a toxic friend of The Batman than the enemies they traditionally are,Riddler being named Edward Nashton and having a connection to Gotham`s past which motivates him to try to expose corruption in the city`s government and getting involved with copycat terrorists in the process.

I love so much about this film. I like how Riddler is inspired by Batman, which I think does a good job illustrating the cons of vigilantism. I like that there's goons in this film, from the Joker boys on the train to the Riddler clones. I like that Batman has limited tech, he's still learning. Pattinson is great. Everyone is really. I like how you caught on the Riddler's BS-ing. Lots of people seem to think Riddler just didn't know and Batman was just being paranoid, but he did know and was merely using that knowledge to toy with Batman's mind. Alfred: he ducked behind that huge table Bruce struggled to move, last second. Bomb: Batman raised his armored arms in front of his face hole, split second.

    2 жыл бұрын

@@kevinmatthew1050 Well I didn't say major plotholes but I can give you a few issues off the top of my head and bare in mind I give comic book stuff a lot of slack however this film really kind of bills itself as a more serious crime/thriller flick so. The pictures Riddler took of the corrupt officials etc were all from the same angle/spot outside of the club/Falcone's yet Batman, who is shown to be obviously very intelligent and picks up on clues, never realized this somehow. No one at the drug/money drop with Penguin heard the extremely brutal and loud batmobile pull up right next to the operation nor Salina's motorcycle. For absolutely no reason the corrupt cop still has Annika's corpse in the trunk of his car. Batman then essentially allows Penguin to get away, leaving Gordon/Catwoman there alone against multiple armed thugs, leading to a giant car chase with giant explosions that likely left multiple innocents seriously injured or killed when he could have either A. caught the penguin at the money drop or B. catch him later. This was all done in service of having that chase scene and the badass upside down shot of him walking up to Penguin - style over substance. You could justify this better if you framed it in the sense that Batman is so obsessed he let his thirst for "vengeance" blind him from all else - leading to the recklessness, IF you had one small scene of someone just acknowledging his culpability in those resulting deaths in the street. Riddler did all his killings up close and personal except for Bruce Wayne who he conveniently sends a bomb in the mail to. The entire third act felt kind of tacted on and cheapened the Riddler's character and removed any nuance he had by going from "I'm cleaning up the corruption" to "let's just flood the town and kill everyone".

Sure, worse injury could add another layer, but what they did worked well.

If Se7en & Blade Runner had a baby could so sum up the production design of Reeve's visionary take on the Caped Crusader. Top notch in every way - Idig every incarnation but love that they even made this beaker than Nolan's dystopian trilogy - hard act to top. FYI: Some on location shooting in Liverpoole of all places gives Gotham a grandiose look. Great job and choice.

Batman put his hands and gauntlets in front of his face, as the bomb blew up. So that is why he wasn't burnt. I'd imagine in Gotham, especially with the corruption and a mad man running around, that Rèal wore a bullet proof vest. Alfred chucked the bomb away from him to the other side of the table and most of the explosion was probably blocked by that table. Remember Alfred is military trained and probably shielded himself with something. Hope that helped erase that those thoughts from your head, dude.

Batman went from I am vengeance to I am altruism. Lol. But seriously, I like how he showed his vulnerability here. Just like a young lad searching for his identity and true calling. The best part for me is the complexity of his father-son relationship with Alfred. So many fatherhood themes here, BTW. From the mayor playing with his son despite problems with his campaign, the DA sparing his family's life by not revealing the rat's identity, and of course Selena and Falcone (who I hope did not have inappropriate relations with his daughter). Loooove the parallels between The Riddler and The Bat. I listened to the monolgue at the beginning and the first half could be voiced by the Riddler. As for the "weak sauce explosions" 🤣 , I think that the Riddler saw Bruce as an ally, and had no intentions of killing him or exposing his identity. My boy got long term plans! I checked the rataalada website too late. It's now "seized by the Gotham City PD". Lol. Nice touch. I hope DC keeps the website for future announcements. I enjoyed this reaction massively. Well done!

Another fatherhood angle, when Falcone was telling Batman his version of what happened with Thomas Wayne, Falcone was being very fatherly to Batman, and you could tell that he wanted that and was falling for it against his better judgement.

@@ThreadBomb Falcone was such a dastardly character. The actor who played him did a fantastic job. I need to see more of his work. The thing with Falcone is that his story about Thomas Wayne saving his life seems benign- as if he was a "friend of the family", an "uncle" to Bruce if you will. But underlying that is a sinister message of Thomas' affiliation with the mob. It's like, don't act so high and mighty, your father and I are one and the same.

One thing I picked up on was Carmine knows Bruce is Batman when he dies... you can see the recognition in his face, more specifically his eyes, because he recognized Bruce's eyes... remember they how he told Bruce earlier at the funeral that he remembers his eyes watching while his dad helped him. Nothing was mentioned or said in this movie purely by accident. What I love about this movie is that I've seen it 4 times in theaters and you pick up on little details everytime. Like the weather at the bottom of the news screen, lol. Also the Batmobile literally shook the theater I was in with it's reveal. That part still gives me goosebumps. D.A. Colson (the schmuck in the car) is played by Peter Sarsgaard. He also played Hector Hamond in Ryan Reynolds ''Green Arrow''. And his wife is actress/director Maggie Gyllenhaal, who played Rachel in ''The Dark Knight''. Who's brother is Jake Gyllenhaal who played Mysterio in ''Spiderman: Far From Home''. Which makes me wonder if there are any actors in Hollywood anymore? Or just not a lot of parts?

I don't want to sound like an idiot but the batman and the bomb if you look closely at the short shot after the bomb blows up he shields the face, especially the exposed area of his mask with his arms. Second, when it came to him punching the guy in the face as many blows as he took to the face you should watch UFC to know how many punches it takes to knock someone out completely.

Yeah, they probably tried the scene with Batman backing off before the bomb exploded, but I’m sure that doesn’t look good on film. You see the meme with Batman running away? They obviously couldn’t burn his face. So we got what we got, and we just have to accept it. It is fantasy world after all. I mean, that armor is out of this world. Haha! I like the movie very much, though, and I accept these fantasy elements for what they are. Also in Dark Knight Batman fell from a building without a shute and walked away. Nolan was fantasy too.

I think someone pointed out he was shielding his face by crossing his arms as the explosion pushed him, but that's definitely not gonna do much if it were real life. So glad we could watch this movie with you! I loved this film: there was so much care taken by all involved, and so many beautiful, perfectly crafted moments. But then there were a bunch of silly little flaws that brought it down. The romance with Catwoman is probably the one that has the most screen time; I found it unconvincing and unnecessary, and the second half of the film would drag much less without it. If I could, I would also CG her silly mask into a proper balaclava. I really liked this Gordon. Unlike previous screen versions, he was not a saint, or a buffoon; he was a tough guy in a tough job, and you could really sense how hard it was for him dealing with the corruption and politics of his job. Turturro as Falcone was the movie's MVP for me. The character was actually the lynchpin of the plot, and although he didn't have much screen time his presence in the story was really powerful (in a similar way to Orson Welles in The Third Man?). The guy playing Riddler has been criticised by some for going over the top. I think he was trying to bring to life what was on paper a very underwritten part. He definitely made a unique impression, I must say. And I loved the bathos of his social media persona: "Hi guys, it's ya boi, the Riddler." There are a pair of great videos on the Dolby youtube channel, interviews with the movie makers covering the movie's sound and cinematography. I think the one on sound (and music) was better, but the one on photography did include great tidbits like the fact that they deliberately used old flawed lenses to give the movie its unique atmospheric look. And it occurred to me while watching this video that Matt Reeves may be the guy who could bring us a great new Alien film... EDIT: Forgot to mention -- taser gloves! Wish they had come back later.

This movie drags on far too long. I feel that a good 30mins could have been edited out of this movie and it would have been just as good. The theatrical version feels more like the director's cut lol. During the up-close explosion scene involving Batman, it would have been more realistic if he was wearing a full protective face mask.

It was very important for Selina to be in this movie. She is a version that Bruce could have turned out to be. He unintentionally inspired Riddler to start his murderous crusade. Selina was out for blood. Falcone was only looking for power no matter what it meant. Oz was just looking to have his moment to be on top. Mayor Mitchell, Commissioner Savage, D.A. Coulson, and even (unintentionally) Bruce have been living comfortably and profitting off of the Renewal money. All this corruption, vengeance, fearmongering, murder, and blackmail have taken over Gotham. The Batman was supposed to be a symbol of change. But ironically it only allowed the ones in power to continue to do what they were doing for years. Selina was the first person to open his eyes to how he wasn't having an effect.
