The sequence where one of Riddler's followers echoes the "I'm vengeance" line from the start of the film, and the shot of Batman realizing what his crusading had caused was so powerful without a single piece of spoken dialogue. Matt Reeves does a lot with showing the audience without telling through directing the actors to portray their characters physically in all the scenes, and it was a beautiful progression of his character arc. The epilogue scene with Batman carrying the victim to the stretcher to be treated was incredibly well done. This film was basically as close to my ideal Batman film as I could've possibly hoped for.

Another great example of Matt Reeves' "show, don't tell" method is whenever Bruce Wayne glanced at that little boy. Any other director would have shown a little bit of a flashback to Bruce's childhood, but it's not necessary in this film. Even people who aren't all too familiar with Batman's lore can put two and two together with moments like that.

I like that he's not a seasoned detective yet. The Batman we're used to seeing, has been through years of fighting crime. He's seen it all. That experience is why he's able to piece things together so quickly. But you have to learn that over time. It would be unrealistic for him to be that guy at this stage of his career. He shows traits. You can see he has the instincts, but it's not refined. He's like a promising rookie at this point. All these people saying it's a negative of the movie that he's not a good detective are missing the point. He's learning how to be the Batman we're used to seeing.

Since this is a spoiler review, the biggest feature that I've seen many viewers miss is when the Riddler in Arkham first starts talking about Brrrruuuuuce, and The Batman thinks his identity is blown, but they miss the transition where Riddler is actually mourning missing one of his targets and still thinks Batman is his sympathetic co-conspirator. I loved that The Batman was a changed man by the end of the movie, with the potential to change still more. I loved that he strode out of the shadows, a gunslinger without guns, and it sounded like he had spurs when his feet hit the pavement. I hated that The Batman waded into gunfire like he was wearing Beskar, like he was wearing Iron Man's caveman suit.

Honestly, I feel like Riddler knew Batman's true identity as Bruce Wayne but he was purposely acting like he didn't know and talked about Bruce more than to Bruce because he knew that everything was being recorded and he wanted to save the mystery. If they were talking with true privacy, I think Riddler would make it clear to Batman that he knows that he's Bruce. I'm sure that I recall a few shots of where he seems to be looking straight at the camera.

I’m thinking Harley and Jokers relationship is going to play out through the Arkham Series. But the much greater scheme of taking over the asylum will climax in the final to last movie. This depends on who the real antagonists of the movies are as I’m sure they’ll still use the court of owls. I think the Arkham series has a lot of potential to explore the villains we wouldn’t usually see in the movies. And show us there origins. I have a feeling we will see another Two Face and Bane. As I think penguin will probably have the lady DA assassinated. And if that was venom or a early version of the drug that Bats used at the end of the movie. Then we might get that storyline from the comics where Bruce is hooked on using it. Again tho I’m not entirely sure where they’d put Bane if he did show up at all.

Plus..from that embarrassing crash he had after that Bat-FLIGHT...we sure can see how he'd improve his mastery of his own gadgets..and fighting moves. I see this as the second movie Nolan should've made instead of The Dark Knight..which should've been the third movie. For the sequel, I hope they introduce Nightwing as a fledgling vigilante in Bludhaven, trying to recreate what batman is doing in Gotham. Batman finds out about him and a few others and that's how we eventually get Batman incorporated. Not by him raising Dick Grayson as a ward, but by being a mentor to a young guy that's already on that path. I think that would be much more compelling. It's a true detective story that explores the corruption of Gotham in much deeper way than we've ever seen on the big which extremely impressive following Nolan's trilogy. Furthermore, this, in fact, contradicts his own character in the prequel novel where he was in a race, a girl’s car got bombed and crashed, Bruce then, stopped everything else to save her life, making him realize for the first time that he felt good saving people. Probably the first spark of inspiration that made him do what he does today. But somehow he forgot all that now. So there’s a big inconsistency in Bruce here. And no, I don’t know if Penguin would’ve dig into a bunker, but considering how at no point in the story conveys that any of these mob bosses are hard to find at all, I doubt it. @@jbkillinem2360 That’s a good point, I thought it was kinda odd that Thomas Wayne wanted to hush a journalist over his wife’s past mental state. It would be interesting to see that the Wayne family tree has ties to the court of owls but Thomas and Martha wanted to go against their corruption and as a result was killed for it.

I had a really good time with it! Finally getting Batman into a gritty detective story on the big screen was a good move. And seeing this type of Batman was also great, young and still working through his demons. The runtime was long, but I guess it felt justified given that there was so much ground to cover with the Riddler and Falcone. Selina was definitely underdeveloped and her kiss with Bruce felt really forced, and I agree they don't give you enough time to care about what she's going through. I'm not even sure if she and Annika were lovers or just friends or what. Also not enough time with Alfred either. So that's a bit ironic considering the runtime lol I am one of those people who believes this movie should have been rated R. I just don't see this as a movie for younger fans of Batman. There's nothing here for them. It's a very reserved movie all things considered and not the stuff younger kids wanna see in a superhero movie imo. If I was a kid, I think I would have been a bit bored tbh But that's just my take on it, I could be underestimating the kids and teens of today. But still, I firmly believe that more violence, more blood, etc. could have been the cherry on top for this movie. 9/10, excited to see the next one. PS. I left the theater and realized he only used the Batmobile once and I wasn't sure how to feel about that lol 😂

One thing the animated series did great with was showing how Bruce is not only Batman but a detective so I feel like to play this character you have to play 3 people. Pattinson nails it. I’m excited to see what he does with this character in future films if he comes back. And also adding on how it pushed the R rating; this film did something unique with doing tasteful violence that was partnered with great characters that you rooted for including the villains. Hollywood, using Alien vs Predator 2 as an example, thinks that to make an R film we want violence sex and gore but this film proves you CAN have a great story with all these things even with a PG-13 rating. So freaking well done

I loved this movie, but some story choices took me out. How did a car crash into the wake of a dead mayor with all those cops in attendance. What type of security and police force does Gotham have where one mayor gets killed, another shot and then a funeral gets rammed by a car? Batman was scary and lurking in the shadows but no one was really scared of him. Paint face goons got beat up but they charged him with no fear. The cops weren't scared of him. Every goon in the movie wasn't scared of him either. They all fought him head on.

You know when they were talking about the chase scene and killing a bunch of cops, I recently watched Gone in 60 Seconds and they went out of their way to show that the cops survived these horrific crashes as they were chasing the Nic Cage character. Literaly had a cop car get slammed by a wrecking ball and thrown throw a wall, and the cop driving it walks away!. The movie even made fun of itself and was like "Are you sure you're okay? You went through a wall?"

Only just started the video but I feel you've already miss-characterised the Waynes. They weren't in bed with Falcone or the mob, it was only in one moment of weakness that Thomas Wayne asked him for help not realising how far he'd go. It was also implied they died because they were about to expose him.

Mr. Freeze is probably one on the hardest characters but probably one of the best batman villain. There has not really been that sympathetic villian in any batman movie the Schumacher films tried it but it was a bit campy for the darker tone of what Victor Fries is and how he could further evolve the character of batman as well. With that said especially since these are more like detective movies, we need a court of owls movie.

I just watched The Batman and Robert Pattinson definitely was badass as Batman. Paul Dano as Riddler was creepy yet like how he bought his own take to the character. Zoey Kravitz as Selina Kylie was good. Definitely excited for The Batman 2 where it goes from the cliff hanger. Colin Farrell as Ozwell Cobblepot was amazing.

I think one of the reason why we didn’t get too much into Bruce Wayne life is becuz. This version of the character doesn’t want to be Bruce. He believes the Batman is the only way to aid the city. It’s only by the end when he decides he has to be more then fear vengeful monster. This movie was so good. I really like it.
