    All true. I would add something, the mitts are what? Mitts are mostly a target and striking tool used to develop hand-eye. But also develop an understanding of distance, understanding of returning your hand to block/throwing your punches correctly/catching punches correctly/slipping punches correctly. Mitts can teach at range (which for a beginner is where you should start), midrange and in-fighting. Think of the mitts as both a target (Your head or body or guard), and something you can use to strike at someone your teaching. As you begin to see the mitts beyond merely a means to throw punches at you will see the “why.” Why they (boxing coaches) are using the mitts this way, why they are holding them here or there.
