Most people don’t realize Floyd has advanced the fundamentals. Now his padwork has things built in for muscle memory and planned reactions. Built in systems in high speed.

I’m pretty sure EVERYONE is a bit of an overstatement. I’ve seen many fighters lose fights and then sit there in a state of confusion wondering how they can lose because they’ve been able to do the “mayweather” style padwork. Losing to someone who just drills the fundamental padwork.

I think you'd have to be pretty removed from sports in general to look at Floyd Mayweather and not know he's using advanced fundamentals. I think "a few people still might not realize" is accurate.

Nice work C.A - enough respect to you. I love the jabs at the end, always getting my juniors smashing some jabs at the end of a the combo drills, popping jabs while moving side to in or if going outer way then pop some right hands out.

Coach, My son is 11 years old and he plays Basketball. I thought Boxing would be a great cross training for him plus he can learn the sport and get his hands right. I’ve always respected the sport and we are both learning together. I found your page and I’ve been watchin them faithfully to help me help him. I appreciate the videos you put up and how your break things down simply. Salute. We’re from California but come to NJ/NY area often. Next time we goin to try to come check your gym out.

Great work ! Mayweather mitts are purely drills oiling the engine working out your array of punches. I mean floyd does some simple ass perfection work also. Floyd only throws singles & two & 3 punch combinations in fights but his accuracy & timing is second to none & he doesn’t pitty Pat but lands with precision like no other! I’m subscribing this guys legit.

They’re not useless, if combined with other training. I did boxing and martial arts very heavily growing up and still now into adulthood at 25. My father was a big boxing and Bruce Lee fan so he had us in it fighting since elementary. He taught us many Jeet Kune Do techniques that are extremely effective in the boxing ring. In my experience, the martial arts background helped me a lot with the fundamentals of punching, techniques, distance, and flexibility. Doing Katas and punching in the air over and over developed a lot of skills. Also having to judge the distance of placing kicks at an early age helped when it came to the boxing ring. It gave me a very solid base. I practiced Kajukenbo, (karate, judo, kenpo, and Chinese boxing all in one) which is a more brutal and effective martial arts. Not all martial arts are based in practical en efficient strikes, which is what Bruce Lee talks about. Away from going to martial arts class we did boxing at home and only went to the boxing gym to spar. My dad was also a boxing wizard and intelligent so many of the JKD martial arts blocking and defense can be used in the boxing ring if you can master distance timing and have the proper speed to execute. Bruce Lee was the best at this.

Great video once again I just wanted to get your thoughts on about how MMA is now changing the way that traditional boxing coaches are being forced for a lack of better word to teach their students since the stances are slightly different which in turn changes the punch mechanics I had a "striking coach" who advertised boxing as one of their expertise but the way he held the pads was more MT orientated 3 punch combos all hard punches (always with a hard step jab) and very little evasion footwork besides slipping and the occasional shallow weave even where they position the pads are so different a little bit wider (forcing the puncher to give 100 percent with each punch) than my boxing coach and very rarely are throw away punches involved in the combos I was being taught I have since now found a strictly boxing coach and I have found it to be way better for my goals lots more side to side footwork during pads and 8 punch combinations pivots and inside fighting with set up movement included. His reasoning is lots of western guys with boxing backgrounds are training for MMA and transitioning to Muay Thai and MT guys are being out punched no surprise since MT is traditionally a kicking art so the MT guys are turning to boxing (going the opposite way) to increase hand speed not knowing that their square up stance is also affecting their ability to flick jabs or throw the short rear uppercut from a bent position and so forth. EVEN MY DOUBLE JAB has improved hugely being in a side on boxing stance compared to a squared mix hybrid stance from my previous trainer. I guess fusion comes at a cost.

I am a former pro mma fighter, trainer etc....I'm training right now to stay in shape and I'm looking for a series of mitt work sequences to work. Is it possible to make a video with a few sequences to get some ideas going on what to work? I have some that I do already of course. I have combo's from muay thai and boxing, but i'm looking to dig a little deeper in to the boxing tool box. Appreciate it. Thanks.

It’s nice to see a solid mutt holder instead of a mitt slapped . Mitt slapoers are a new phenomenon . Solid mitt holders take strength on the part of the mitt holder and develop proper distance and tremendous strength

YES! I am 25 now and my dad has always been my mitt holder. He passed recently and I now realize mitt holding is an art and relationship developed between two people. I cannot find ANYONE to train me correctly. They either have their mitts too wide, or are slapping my hands, making me shorten my punches. My pops would also tell me I am a great mitt holder and I think it’s because I has the distance down and could find the timing of others punches quickly. Lots of bad habits can be practiced with a bad mitt holder.

In many videos on this type of pad work, the boxer, even professionals, seems to not extend the arms fully, significantly limiting their reach and punching power, seemingly in exchange for speed. Also, in some videos people seem to just throw endless combinations of weak punches and just keep going. THAT sounds like just fancy looking but inefficient training to me. Thoughts?
