The Ballad of Historical Literacy

Музыка

Okay since you guys have insisted that it’s fine if I post my college assignment videos as public instead of unlisted, well... here you go 😅
The project topic was: “Why is historical literacy important? What can we do to rectify the historical illiteracy of the modern age and how history is taught?”
My argument: stories. 100,000 years of human history can’t possibly be wrong. 😘
Oh, and yeah, I guess the characters are technically supposed to be American (although historical illiteracy is by no means limited to the US), but accents are way funner 😆🤷🏻‍♀️
WATCH TILL THE END FOR OUTTAKES. (...What, is it my fault if I get distracted by my emergency-contrived Victorian schoolboy costume and start making Les Mis TikToks by accident!? Like, who wouldn't?? Pfft.)

I saw this back when you posted it, and I cannot like it enough. I miss your actively posting, but I understand how life can get in the way of side projects. Good luck!!

Well done ! Very insightful. A rarity in todays world social media blather. The lessons of history, and the stories of the people that have lived it, are mostly forgotten. But we do have the songs, if one is interested enough in history , to listen. Music, isn't a great way to make a living, but it is a great way to share the memories of who and what went before. That's what you are doing. Your history teacher didn't look like any I ever had ! None of them played the banjo either . More please.

Wow Sarah, I don't think many were expecting that! You've been thinking, dramatising and creating, girl. And kept your promise. If I were assessing your project I'd give it first class honours, and yes, I laughed with you too. Brilliant, original, engaging, and thanks for sharing. Only now not sure if you're American, French, or Dickensian English! And I love the raw sound of that tack-head among the scented candles. Teaching history, historical literacy, historical illiteracy of the modern age. Big, fascinating subjects, I envy you. What will the people of the future think about modern day historical vandalism, deliberate corruption of the truth for social engineering or acquisition of power? Me? I don't think one can ever fully trust or depend on anything that's been written, or passed down through history. The principal way to understand human history is through ourselves. How we as humans would have responded to climates and environment, social challenges, methods of survival, ways of elevating our lives. By putting ourselves in that position, knowing our instincts, recognising human behaviour helps answers that. Our ancestors weren't stupid, they had similar or near identical brain sizes, emotions, and powers of reasoning. Indeed they were simply masters at other things, manipulating different forms of knowledge. Thinking about that offers a window to our real history rather than trusting what was written down.
