The BAJA RZR Project Episode 1

On this episode of DIYWILLY, I finally get started building the BAJA RZR. So for many years we’ve had the plan to build a BAJA Bug. We purchased a 1970 Bug that was already transformed in to a BAJA. Over the years I had so many plans but never found the right look I wanted. Then my son showed me a Polaris RZR 1000 converted in to a BAJA Bug. I knew that was the way the project needed to go. So now the hunt was on for the right Polaris RZR for the project. Well that was hard to find unless you wanted to spend big money for a new one or slightly used one. I wasn’t ready to break the bank on this project. Then while browsing through C-list this one popped up with a blown engine. Seriously the seller just wanted it gone. This was our opportunity to buy the right RZR to start the project. We quickly grabbed it at just the right price that we could refuse and Willy’s BAJA RZR vision becomes a reality…. Thanks Willy..

Super clean is great stuff. Fbc uses it too!

Yes Super Clean is good stuff. I’ve used the degreaser and wheel cleaner. Both products worked better then expected.

Yes sir it’s going to be a big project. Looking forward to working on though. I find myself staring at it trying to figure out all the details.. I know the plan may change along the way but can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Good stuff Willy! I've been watching on the TV so I thought I'd drop a comment while I'm on the computer! I've never seen a Bug body on a RZR. This is gonna be great!

It’s been done a few times. Usually tho they use a RZR 1000 for the body swap. I couldn’t see spending that amount of $$$ to just cut it up. This RZR 900 was just the right price to take a sawzall too and not feel bad…😂 Hopefully I can weld it back together 11” longer tomorrow. Wish me luck!
There was a smart car conversion up my way a few months ago, super cool build.

Awesome project Willy! With age comes the cage 🤣🤣 at first, I thought you chopped your other bug up. Good to know she's still in one piece and this one is a different one. Should be ready by next season! The Whistling Fence is Officially open for the season and this weekend is a District 38 poker run. This is going to be a fun project series to follow 😁 hope to see this creation in person on the trails one day.

It’s a big build. So many unknowns that I hope it doesn’t take too long. Just picked up some steel for all the frame mods and reinforcements. Plan on starting the stretch this week The bug we bought couple years ago as a Baja project. I wanted to build and 4.8 LS with a Subaru transmission but my son wanted the RZR build. Thanks for checking it out.

Not 💯sure yet. Doing some research and seeing what’s available. I have my 1st choice but we’ll have to see…
We have a few 1200 locally with heat and ac one guy has drove his 1500 mile round trips and is tagged as a 68 vw

Yes it will be a huge project. I have an engine in mind but haven’t bought one yet.
