The little nod that Charlie’s dad gives him at the table to go check on Nick is so sweet.

I love that in the background (while Charlie’s Mom is telling Charlie that they should have Nick and his Mom over soon), you can hear Tori telling Nick that his brother is a prick 😂

I love how the hug the four art room friends have when the Safe Place artwork is revealed, mirrors their hug in season 1 in Tao's room. Tao always seemingly reluctant to join in ❤

The Loveless (by Alice Oseman) bright pink book, positioned in the background in the shot right next to Isaac's head while he talks to James was so cool. Also, he bought that book back in Paris so it might go a way to helping him understand.

If the show continues to follow the books, Nick does talk to his mom & gets advice from her about how to help Charlie with his eating disorder. I hope they include that in the show. ❤

The very fact that Ben showed up uninvited, after Charlie had ignored his MANY messages, demanding the right to apologize, is the perfect example of what Charlie was talking about. It was never abaout Charlie. It is, and always has been, ALL about Ben. Ben got off easy with what Charlie said to him. He deserved to hear a lot worse and Charlie should have reported the assault (having the star rugby players as prime witness would have helped what could have been a he said/he said situation). I'm so glad Alice has confirmed that we wont see Ben again. He can be a miserable asshole somewhere else, far away from Charlie!

If you haven't picked up on the situation, it's the same/same. Season One Nick felt pressured to make a date with Imogen because all his mates were around. Now Issac feels pressured by his mates to hook up with James.❤

Elle did not tell Tara. And think back to season 1 and how difficult Charlie found it to tell Tao what he doesn't want to hear. The same probably goes for Elle.

I don’t get the Elle “hate” this season. Elle isn’t the only one in this ship to misstep. In this episode specifically, she would have told Tao right away if he hadn’t proven how difficult relaying that information triggers him. She didn’t tell Tara; she guessed. Thankfully, it didn’t blow out-of-proportion and they were able to communicate.

I think it might partly be down to acting and directing choices. Tao comes across very vulnerable and earnest all season, wearing his heart on his sleeve and very expressive, which makes him easy to root for. Elle is more closed off, which I see as her trying to protect herself from being hurt, but I think it comes across as cold or standoffish to some viewers, and it’s harder for them to see her side.

@@asinbumble I feel people forget that Elle transitioned not too long before the series begins. She’s stated her fear of change. Tao understands that and knows that. So, we she was sticking her neck out to send him signals with him unintentionally shutting them down, she was right to put distance between them. To her, he was sending her signals that he’s not interested. I think it was great that she found friends that could relate to her much better. Also have to understand that Tao did what Imogen did to Nick in the previous season by cornering her into a date when she was settling into them just being friends. She’s being jerked around. When their date goes south, he gets offended that she had invited her friends from art school to the bonfire party. In her defense, I think she invited her when they were at the Paris trip meeting where James invited them. In this regard, Tao was being childish lashing out because Naomi and Felix are at the party. When people lash out, more often a person will be defensive. While they organically came together, Elle was hesitant telling Tao about her being accepted into Lambert Art College because she feels she’s walking on eggshells, and based on the past, understandable. They’re in the early stages of the relationship. Unlike just being friends, there are new expectations and dynamics. That reaction when Tara guessed Elle getting in, NOT Elle telling her, I felt was a little uncalled for. Elle was flustered and scared to tell Tao. I’m sure she would have told him if they were just friends, but they just became girlfriend-boyfriend, and the fact that the school in far. What’s great once the cat is out of the bag, they calmly talk, and this shows Tao’s growth. I think empathy can be extended to both.

@@nitsugazemag I completely agree! Both Tao and Elle stumble a lot as they try to move into a romantic relationship, they’re both scared, they both have insecurities, they both make mistakes, but their intentions are always good. They’re also only 15 and 16! I just think their performances and the way the actors interpret the characters might influence the way viewers react to them, and could be why some reactors (like this one) find it easier to empathize with Tao… I think you have to read between the lines more to get where Elle’s coming from.

@@asinbumble it kinda sucks that we might not have a lot of Yasmin Finney if Doctor Who gig takes up a lot of her time. I do want to know more about Elle. Long distance might be too much, but what’s great about how Alice writes, she often takes things in a different direction that we think. In the comics, Tao and Elle don’t have that failed date before they kiss in Paris. I think she put that drama in to contrast high anxiety to low, when they’re comfortable and their defenses are down.

@@nitsugazemag I think Yaz has already filmed Doctor Who, but not sure if there’s still stuff for her to do. I wondered if the art college storyline might be a way to reduce Elle’s role in S3 if Yaz is wanting to take a step back, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Alice has mentioned that s3 will have a different vibe from s2, and that vol. 3 was a good place to explore lots of different characters at once, so I wonder whether s3 will feel like slightly less of an ensemble piece…

I like Tao as well, but, to me, his defences are also offensive: he gives those around him no reason to expect other than negative outcomes from being honest with him about things they know he won’t like. I find it completely expected that his closest friends-especially his closest friends-try everything possible *before* honesty. Tao needs to show them more of the change he’s now starting to show before he has any right to expect them to treat him differently.

Yeah, and I think that's a big part of why Tao isn't annoyed when he and Elle talk about her not telling him right away, he knows it's a reaction that has come from his past behaviour, and so he's trying to be better about it.

I don’t think Ben was the worst apology ever. Harry’s apology in the previous episode was much worse. Ben at least sounded sincere where Harry made it sound like a joke.

I agree with you. I think Ben was pretty sincere with his apology. Maybe it wasn’t perfect for everyone, but you can see the sincerity in his face. I dislike his actions as much as anyone, but I do think he definitely was trying during the apology. The only part that bothers me is that he wasn’t showing any remorse for any incidents prior to the apology. He was still just as rotten as ever. i’m sure we will not see him in future seasons, but I do hope for the best for his character to become a better person.

I think Harry's apology was not the greatest, but his defense of them at the Eiffel Tower shows at least that he's no longer behaving that way. Ben, on the other hand, repeatedly messages Charlie online, then stalks him to show up at Elle's art event for his "apology", only to show that he didn't actually understand what it was that he had done wrong. Harry might not be much better, but at least he seems to actually be changing his ways. And to actually understand what he did wrong.

  • @asinbumble

    @asinbumble

    10 ай бұрын

@@sadfaeryExactly, even in making his “apology” Ben was AGAIN violating Charlie’s boundaries and forcing him to be in contact against his will, after Charlie repeatedly asked Ben to leave him alone and chose not to respond to his DMs. Then the actual apology didn’t acknowledge anything Ben did or how Charlie was affected at all. “I’m a messed up person but I like you :)” is not an apology. Using his line about needing “more time” from Charlie puts the burden back on Charlie again. “I just wanted *something* good” is revealing also, Ben has always seen Charlie as an object to be used to his benefit, even now he doesn’t spare a single thought for Charlie’s feelings or what he might want.
