I sang this every spring recital with my choir. Senior year, ten years ago, my choir teacher signed copies and handed them out. Tonight, he retires. We have alumni from his 35+ career coming to surprise him and sing this for him. I’m singing my part in the car crying. This song changed me.

The line "let music never die in me, forever let my spirit sing" makes me cry everytime. And the piano part to it with the descending quarter notes that crunch when the key changes from Db to G#... oh my god... its amazing this piece... someone listening to this piece for the first time might go wow that was cool, but the people that can feel those words... (musicians of all kinds) they feel it deep down in their bones and it makes them feel like a caged bird has been freed. That's what this

Our choir got this song today and I absolutely fell in love

Sang this in highschool concert choir. My best and most favorite. Has so many precious memories of my choir instructor, The late Eugenia Wheeler. The passion she had playing the piano, and the passion of the choir..still have goosebumps thinking of it. This choir has done a marvelous job with this. You all should be proud! Absolutely beautiful!!!

we are currently learning this is my choir class. this helped a lot actually. I the bass is a lot stronger than in my small classroom, there's only about 5 bass and 15 alto, and 14 soprano, both first and second. maybe 6 tener. so the guys are a lot stronger here. its beautiful.

This song was chosen for the ILMEA District choir last year and it was one of the pieces they chose for use to audition with and I didn't make it in but I remember everyone who had auditioned LOVED this song and we are still begging our choir teacher to let us do it a year later now

This choir itself isn't all that bad but I wish the men were more powerful. Spite all of this, the song is still beautiful as all hell.

I realize this is a very late comment, but when we sang it, the guys were heavily outnumber. We had I think 8-9 tenors and I believe 7 or so bass. Alto and soprano were maybe twenty each. Cant recall

I only wish that the choir singing this did not sound so bright and sang with a more "o" shape (as my choir teacher says) but I digress, still a beautiful and moving song.

I sung this one. It was coed and we was fiyah!!!

are school district does this thing called “choral fest” where 5th graders, 8th graders and high schoolers sing, and we’re singing this bring tears to my eyes when we sing it all together

Didn't he write this in honor of his music teacher, who was murdered after one of their performances when he was in choir?

This piece was simply fantastic as was the choir singing it. The only criticism I have is that the girls need to darken their vowels. Besides that, just fantastic!

Yeah, I'm a soprano 1 and we're doing it for this trip to go to Busch Gardens, honestly at first I thought it was gonna be REALLY EASY but once you get into it it has it's own challenging parts

God I miss being in my schools choir I never got my final concert because of COVID

it's funny how you NEVER hear that. we had some strong Basses that year, and some voices that just stood out in the tenors for better or worse. I know I was singing a little louder than I should have.
