Lyrics:
[Hook]
If she don't love me, what can I do?
Just put on my best pair of shoes
Because I'm me
Because she said, "He's the one that drill the charms
Honey let's go wrong"
I just want to know
What's wrong with me?
Being in love with you
[Verse 1: Sonny Cheeba]
Yeah
9th grade had the jingles of the swinging rainbow jacket
Lost lingo, Bronx's only Django
Snap, he'd got less tougher
That's where my props go
That's where my pops went
See my percentage is a pennant to the planet
Knock it out the ball park, Frankie
I should not tire this tire
To a better love, let the wings spread
It'll always come back, baby
Come back, shellac black, baby
A come back, flat black paint on a Chevy
[Hook]
If she don't love me, what can I do?
Just put on my best pair of shoes
Because, I'm, I'm me
Because I'm me
Because I'm me
Because I'm me, I'm me
[Verse 2: Sonny Cheeba]
Never mind my tone when I told Pretty Tony
Listen to my tone, you ain't catchin' you a Tony
Award-winning walk when you running with a shottie
Why you running from us?
Why you messing with us?
We ain't got no guns, we just let the bears witness
The Grizzly, maybe Polar
You ain't ready, you ain't ready 'ready rolled up
Pulling a machete, cut the bamboo paper
And let's roll out baby
[Hook]
I just want to know
What's wrong with me?
[Instrumental]
"Watch the shit, it's good"

@@gsam3461 yeah thats not it. Their album Since I Left You literally has upwards of 3500 samples. Theres a huge difference between playing or singing over ONE sample (basically a backing track) and composing with samples. All the nuances of what can (or can't) be done with instruments or voices that you're trying to use now have to be found elsewhere. It's very tedious work since youre constantly listening to more and more new music for inspiration, but the end result is this weird marriage of different musical periods forming something real instruments or voices by themselves could ever accomplish (not that its objectively better, but there is a lot of merit to this kind of art)

For those saying "why was a 10yo boy hitting on a grown woman", He was NOT a boy. The boy does not exist. The man on the BENCH was the one hitting on the ticket lady! The boy was the beautiful, loveable , childish and talented person the "subway bum" imagined himself to be. But the ticket woman can only see a "subway bum" singing for pennies. Get it? Brilliant writing and heart-warming song! A+

I don't know what it is, but no other song makes me feel this way. I think this song is absolutely beautiful, but I can't bring myself to listen to it, because it makes me want to cry. It makes me think of life, all the years behind me that I will never be able to get back, but also all the years ahead of me that I can look forward to. This song brings me both sadness, but also hope, and an encouragement to keep living.

@@giuseppechiarelli8675 lol I 'should try' unrequited Love? Oh, I've been there and been the one not to requite a woman's love (personally, I didnt like that, either), Hasn't every man? What is enjoyable about loving someone that doesn't love you back, exactly? Your own self-delusion and denial?? I'm genuinely asking...for real. Because, for me, it was utter heartbreak and it destroyed my 20s by marrying a woman who fell out of love with me... So, you were saying?? I'm going to assume you don't know what unrequited means, like most people, nor have actual experiences with love. F'ing sad bro...but You're probably young, so here's some advice for when you get the courage to speak to a real, live woman: don't bother and focus on yourself, First. Period. Learning to love yourself is ridiculously more important than anything else. 'maybe you should try it'...

The reason it doesn’t get any radio play is because the radio stations only plays stuff that have the same sound as every other song that’s playing and/or very popular. What an awesome message, gentlemen, if a lady doesn't love you back, just put on your best pair of shoes because you're not gonna change yourself for her - "If she don't love me, what can I do? / Just put on my best pair of shoes / Because I'm me". I think shoes is a metaphor for your personality or the best version of yourself and if she doesn't love you for what you are, put a better pair of shoes and find another because you're you.

that beat is from the song "Want Ads" by the Honeycombs! Great song!
I don't always want this song, but when I do, it absolutely nails the spot.
this video is the personification of what it means to feel and live music everyday as a part of your being.

Wallace represents how Sonny feels on the inside when he tries to express his feelings to Becky - beneath Sonny's leather jacket you can see he wears a letter jacket similar to the green one Wallace is wearing. Despite sitting on the bench, calmly chewing a toothpick, inside, Sonny feels small and daunted by the challenge of talking to the assertive and commanding Becky. Wallace, his dancing, the band - all metaphors for Sonny baring his heart to Becky... and then getting shot down, deflated in the end, to go sit alone on the bench. Good song, nice vid.

*chuckle* There may be 9 songs sampled to make this track, but the FOUNDATION of it is The Honey Comb's "Want Ads." Without it, there would be no "Because of Me," at least not this version of it. It sounds just like "Want Ads" with rap added to it. Another thing... there are few things better than the original - this ain't one of them. 🙄

Track is still flawless. Everything from the sample to the kid in the video.
The instrumental in this is beyond amazing. I grew up listening to a radio station called CKLW. Although the station was in Windsor, Canada it was known as "The Motor City Station". If I were to sum up the sound of Detroit in the early 1970's I would point to this tune.

Man loves woman Woman doesn't love man back in her presence he feels like a child again But she wont pay him any attention He wants to show her how amazing he his / how strong he feels But he cant express himself properly because he's starstruck by her That's my interpretation of the video.
