I’ve owners several brands of crossbows. Most recent was the TP RS470 Vapor. Not at all pleased, felt “cheaply built” and that 2-piece nock was a less than stellar design. The R500 on the other hand is solidly built and a real tack driver out to 100yds. Zero problems and a pleasure to shoot.
@shi-kaima3546 Жыл бұрын
After waiting on backorder for more than a year, I finally received my brand new R500e. Followed all of the instructions and shot it a total of 11 times to sight it in. From those 11 shots, I had two bolts splinter as they were leaving the bow. On one, the nock broke on launch which caused the bolt to splinter on the way out of the bow. On the other (the 11th shot), the bolt also splintered in the bow when firing and the remnants of the bolt flew away never to be found - so I don't know if it was also a knock failure. As per instructions, these shots were all using only the Ravin R500 bolts that came supplied with the bow. After the second incident, the bow is sitting in the case until I get time to return it. In my opinion, this crossbow/bolt combination is unreliable and unsafe.

@shi-kaima3546

@@marshalluniversity31 I wish that was the case, but this is not the issue with my R500. As you know from firing your bow 30 times, the knock on the Ravin bolts securely snaps onto the bowstring. The safety mechanism of the bow will not even allow it to fire unless the bolt is securely nocked to the string. It appears on my bow that the 2 threaded rods in the cocking mechanism are not aligned properly and not turning at the same rate such that the bow string does not get tensioned uniformly by both rods when cocking. I have spoken with my local Ravin dealer and he said that they have had this same issue with several of their R500 crossbows right out of the box. The dealer cannot repair this and they have great difficulty contacting anybody in customer support at Ravin (waiting several hours on hold). Ravin apparently has some serious quality control and customer support issues right now. If I can ever get a return authorization number from them, I 'm sending mine back. The R500 that I received is unsafe. You are fortunate with yours.

Hello, I own both the tenpoint rs 470 and the ravin 500 for over a year now. Fit and finish go to the tenpoint. Optics the EVO-X is the best scope on the market! I actually bought one for the ravin. Accuracy, ease of cocking and de-cocking, trigger pull, maneuvering in a blind or treestand, hands down the ravin out performs the tenpoint in these categories. It really comes down to preference both are quality xbows.

I still think TenPoint has got them beat with the nitro 505. 505 is a bit better balanced, quieter, easier to cock & and perhaps more durable. Thicker & heavier strings, cams, limbs and such. With 5 lbs of effort to cock the 505, who cares about e-cocking. With the alpha nock hp’s, no broken arrows or split Nocks. Trigger is the only issue I think where the Ravin might be better. That’s only by a small margin. Some may prefer a different trigger from what Ravin has and claim it’s too light.

No user of any type of archery equipment needs that much power. But it is impressive for sure. I do wish the Ravin was better. I have an early model Ravin Crossbow that has been top notch. But if you’re going to invest this kind of money, I wouldn’t take the chance on the R500. Just my thoughts after what I’ve seen.
