    You know, id never considered it. But when you put it all together in one video, the idea of the Hylden being so technologically advanced. And so many aspects of their "magic" being pure arcane tech. Makes sense to me that the "blood curse" was in actuality a sort of engineered virus.

    Very well done! I know it's never been mentioned in the games, but I really like the similarities between the Hylden and the Ancient Vampires, especially in the Hylden's wings/crests. To me, this suggests that both of them are descended from the same ancient race, but it was so long ago that no one even remembers it anymore. Maybe the Elder God was the one who made the Vampires so different, giving them their more noble look. I know this is all headcanon, but it would have been really cool if the games had explored that aspect of the war. It would have reinforced the idea of the Elder God being the ultimate evil, driving a once benevolent race into an internal conflict which ultimately lead to the destruction of Nosgoth. But which also lead to the creation of humanity! So, you win some, you lose some, I guess :D

First thing that showed up was an article talking about the survey, pretty fresh too. I'm glad it seemed to be a pretty in depth survey. It bodes well. Was a bit tough though, cause it asks you to pick only 5 core choices for certain questions when it would've been so easy to pick a lot more. But I digress. I'm glad they put the survey out. Gives me a bit of hope for the series, but I won't deny I'm also a bit worried cause this is a series that needs to be handled with a lot of care. Alright, gonna go play Defiance now.

    When I think of it, what if the war between Vampires and Hylden started because of Elder God was afraid of the Hylden? Vampires were more spiritual, so they embraced the Wheel of Fate without question, when Elder spoke to them. They present it to the Hylden, who are more rational, so they tried more logical aproach and due to their technology, they find about Elder God, a parasitic organism attached to the Wheel. They try to present this evidence to the Vampires in good will, but Vampires refuse it as heresy and then it's believable that Elder itself, knowing that Hylden can detect him and (maybe) in time could strike against him, moved Vampires to the war with Hylden. And everything else is history.

    Seeing as how the elder sees the hylden as not much of a concern over making sure kain is dead my guess is this theory is probable. Why would he care if the hylden can sense him if they remain banished while he has access to all the vampie souls to feed on but then the human souls. He has no need for souls unbound from the wheell

    I like to think the reason why the seer was able to cross over to material realm and stay was because of her vampiric side resisted the binding and therefore allowed her to escape the demon realm for good, possibly with the aid of Vorador.

  • @1ofthe3
    @1ofthe3 Жыл бұрын

    You know, over the years I wondered about the Seer seeing as to how she was a hybrid. Here’s my theory: Vorador stated that she was older than him, so she was around during the times before the banishment. I feel the favor she owed Vorador was critical, as was her life when she wanted nothing to do with her race’s plans to wipe out all other life in the world. I feel that she came to Vorador to seek shelter. We see her living outside Meridian like a Hermit undetected in all the years the Sarafan Lord has been there. Why? Because he couldn’t sense her presence due to her blood being tainted… by Vorador It could be that sometime after the Hylden General came through, she managed to break free herself. She sought out Vorador for he was the only Vampire who would know of her species. Vorador wasn’t always the ruthless, decadent, hedonistic Vampire we have come to know. There was a time he had compassion. Although it was overly exaggerated in Blood Omen 2, Vorador may have turned her when she came to him after she was able to escape the demon dimension. By the mixing of the bloods, she would have gone undetected by other Hylden over the coming years. Even Kain was shocked by her appearance (and possibly scent) when he asked “what manner of creature are you? You’re like no vampire I’ve ever seen.” With this in mind, she could have easily went undetected by the Sarafan Lord during his reign. Had he of known of her treachery, her punishment would have been unspeakable! After all, look how he tortured Janos. But, in 400 years of him being in the material realm, the Seer was merely at his doorstep and was never captured. The night Kain came to her, The Sarafan Lord showed up and burned her house to the ground. He didn’t know she was in there, he sensed Kain was, and whatever other “vampire” was in there, but her blood was tainted. Regardless who was in that shack, it was going to burn. She chose to stay behind, and accepted her fate because she knew what would come of her if she stepped out. She had lived her life long enough, and to be able to aid the scion of balance was life fulfilling enough for her. On that night she died, and we the audience could only watch the solemness of her sacrifice, and the life she chose to live. A life in solitude, in hopes for a better future for Nosgoth. And we are left with the rocking chair where she once sat thinking of that bitter taste of that terrible illusion.

  • @larrymcmacarroon9529

    @larrymcmacarroon9529

    Жыл бұрын

    So when she said her fate lay along a different path than Kain's, what she really meant was My fate is only this cutscene, right here right now, and there is no path involved because I'm not taking another step. (I doubt she died there, unless her fate was to reincarnate as something specific to further the plot. Otherwise, teleportation escape. Which she just managed easily for Kain. The empty rocking chair moving on seemed to say she was moving on too, maybe disappearing again, but only for a little while since in a minute there would be no hylden left to hide from. Assuming her vampire side lets her survive in Nosgoth after BloodOmen2. If it doesn't, that's maybe a good reason for her to die and reincarnate....but then she wastes the cool hybrid body, so I'm not in favor of that.) Great potential there with that character. Tough to write her alternate fate path, though! I think she used to advise Hylden Lord when his plan was still on track, and then she quit and that explains why he's now blind to things like Kain's comeback and the hyldens' defeat. It's impossible to find a time when Vorador could have turned her (he was vamped After the curse, which means after the banishment, which means she wouldn't have been there to vampify). Unless all these events happened gradually and there was a longer overlap period----only then would cursed vamps have the opportunity to interact with (bite) hylden on the nosgoth side of the barrier. Or Has the Seer been here all along, even before the corrupting of the pillars let the BO2 hylden jailbreak happen. It's all fuzzy. On purpose. So the next game could do whatever they wanted to.

    @@larrymcmacarroon9529 you gotta great point there! The way I was seeing it, she could have broke free sometime after Kain’s defeat. Amy Henig and others who helped put this series together LOVES the number 500! I mean, despite Blood Omen 2 taking place 400 years after Kain refused the sacrifice, everything else seems to revolve around 500yrs. All of us here know how much can happen in just 1 year alone, so there is definitely plenty that could have happened within even a decade after Kain’s defeat. Her being the former advisor to the Sarafan Lord sounds great as well! After all, the Sarafan Lord was extremely negligent in the end, not having foreseen Kain being able to recover so quickly and thwart all of his long arduous work within such a short amount of time. That was humiliating! I’d like to talk about that, too. I may be straying away from what the developers left us with but was that really the Hylden Lord we see in BO2? The self proclaimed Sarafan Lord? I’m starting to ask this because he appears to look like all the others we encounter in the game, albeit the only distinction is the glowing aurora around his head and eyes appearing to look like a Hylden possessed by another. Going back and revisiting the series, the developers left yet another possibility that we haven’t truly seen the real Hylden Lord. This could also help explain why the Sarafan Lord was so negligent. The leader wearing that armor could have been the right hand to the Hylden Lord. The Hylden Lord could have been coming and going in and out of his conscious. While the Hylden Lord was away trying to make way for his army, this right hand servant could have been making grave errors that caused their catastrophic loss to Kain. I feel that would make for a better explanation than what we have been left with; that that was the Hylden Lord, Sarafan Lord, and General all in one 😅 Blood Omen 2 really hurt the timeline. But, I will defend the steam punk environment because the Hylden were far ahead in technology than the Vampires wanted to conform to, and it heavily reflects how far along we came with our industrial revolution during the 19th century! Kain passed out for 200yrs, the world is definitely going to change! 😂

    Blood Omen 2 is fine. Young Kain was whiny, a disappointing portrayal maybe, so players joined in with the whining. Most complaints amount to "our god is missing from this game" (Hennig). But the content was fine, it only fumbled in the execution, lacking those little explanation blurbs that could have smoothed things over with the other games. That's a good take on hylden lord (him being possessed by the real boss, which is why he had more green possession glow than a body possessed by regular hylden. Could be. My way of making the failed invasion "okay" is by saying it succeeded in the way that mattered most, and then the hylden "defeat" covered this up so it won't be discovered until Kain goes to hell ages later to discover the truth. False histories are a theme, so it's possible we haven't seen the true battle of champions yet, and maybe the real Hashakgik will emerge from slumber and be pissed off at the hylden for impersonating him, and at Elder God for "failing to do the one job i gave you!" Mmmm, multiple elder gods. That would have been swell.

    Watching these well put together videos really makes me want to play these games again. They are such atmospheric games with great lore. You should do a video on the vampire race, especially in how vampires are made as it was never fully explained. I am certain that there was the traditional method that Vorador and Janos used which I would guess was through the blood, I would guess it involved draining the human of its human blood and then replacing with vampire blood and then there was Kain's method that was kind of explained in the original soul reaver manual.

    The way I see it: the Hyldan found a way to access the demon realm to possibly become immortal. The cost could be sterility and an aftont to the elder God. The vampires are rattled up into a fuss and attack the heretics. In an ironic twist, the vampires banish the hyldan to the dimension the were researching. In return, the Hyldan blasted the vampires with an unfinished product of their research. The vampire curse. The immortality the vampires feared and sterility. Dooming them. This makes sense to me. The hyldan all having been researching the demon realm and all the fall out surrounding the war

    One odd omission in your timeline is that you do not mention that the ability of the Hylden to reach out of the demon realm via possession is only possible due to the Pillars having human guardians. As the Pillars were made for the Ancients having humans instead weakened the binding such that the Hylden could regain a small foothold. This is why the Ancients would turn the human guardians into vampires but Mortanius and Moebius' rebellion ended this tradition thereby putting the Pillars wholly under human control. So the rise of the possession cult can only have happened during Mortanius' lifetime as guardian but I don't know of any sources that tell us just how long he and Moebius have lived. The timeline can more clearly be defined as - - the time of the Ancients and Hylden - the time of Vampires controlling the Pillars (no Hylden influence) - the time of Humans controlling the Pillars (and the Hylden able to finally reach out of their binding) - the start of Blood Omen leading to the rise of Kain's empire (and in the latest timeline the brief return of the Hylden in between these two events).

    I really have to wonder what the story would have been like in SR2 and Defiance had BO2 not made Amy do damage control. I feel like the Hylden's role in the plot might have instead been filled by the Elder God in some way, or perhaps there was a demon race in mind at first.

    Did you forget that it was the vampires who started the war, something that the vampires conveniently omit from their own history, much like any "winning" side in a war. The victors of any war write off their opponent as evil so they can put themselves up on a pedestal. Notice the similarities to LoTR, the west is all about nature and Mordor/Orthanc are very much technological.

    Even in Lotr it's not so simple but there was undeniably much villainy in the Hylden too. They certainly also sought domination and power. The EG manipulation of Ancients was what drove them to start the war on the religious ground...which makes Elder God responsible for that conflict. The Ancients seemed like a peaceful and powerful civilization, quite enlightened and noble in their own right, Janos as an example of his race seems very compassionate and reasonable, even treating humans with understanding though both of the ancient races were so much 'superior' and so easily could have looked on humans as 'worse' (and Hylden truly did, the imagery of them studying humans like some curious animal on the murals etc. Hylden ultimately see humans as slaves to their will). When it comes to Lotr the 'good side' nature orientation vs evil technological is only a bit of simplification....the evil side is more likely to push into technological advancement due to the power and influence it brings in a way allowing for large scale reshaping of the world to the will of one who...naturally wants all the power. As Tolkien put it: "The story is cast in terms of a good side, and a bad side, beauty against ruthless ugliness, tyranny against kingship, moderated freedom with consent against compulsion that has long lost any object save mere power, and so on; but both sides in some degree, conservative or destructive, want a measure of control. But if you have, as it were taken 'a vow of poverty', renounced control, and take your delight in things for themselves without reference to yourself, watching, observing, and to some extent knowing, then the question of the rights and wrongs of power and control might become utterly meaningless to you, and the means of power quite valueless." .... "I do not intend to involve myself in any debate whether 'magic' in any sense is real or really possible in the world. But I suppose that, for the purposes of the tale, some would say that there is a latent distinction such as once was called the distinction between magia and goeteia.1 Galadriel speaks of the 'deceits of the Enemy'. Well enough, but magia could be, was, held good (per se), and goeteia bad. Neither is, in this tale, good or bad (per se), but only by motive or purpose or use. Both sides use both, but with different motives. The supremely bad motive is (for this tale, since it is specially about it) domination of other 'free' wills. The Enemy's operations are by no means all goetic deceits, but 'magic' that produces real effects in the physical world. But his magia he uses to bulldoze both people and things, and his goeteia to terrify and subjugate. Their magia the Elves and Gandalf use (sparingly): a magia, producing real results (like fire in a wet faggot) for specific beneficent purposes. Their goetic effects are entirely artistic and not intended to deceive: they never deceive Elves (but may deceive or bewilder unaware Men) since the difference is to them as clear as the difference to us between fiction, painting, and sculpture, and 'life'. Both sides live mainly by 'ordinary' means. The Enemy, or those who have become like him, go in for 'machinery' - with destructive and evil effects - because 'magicians', who have become chiefly concerned to use magia for their own power, would do so (do do so). The basic motive for magia - quite apart from any philosophic consideration of how it would work - is immediacy: speed, reduction of labour, and reduction also to a minimum (or vanishing point) of the gap between the idea or desire and the result or effect. But the magia may not be easy to come by, and at any rate if you have command of abundant slave-labour or machinery (often only the same thing concealed), it may be as quick or quick enough to push mountains over, wreck forests, or build pyramids by such means. Of course another factor then comes in, a moral or pathological one: the tyrants lose sight of objects, become cruel, and like smashing, hurting, and defiling as such. It would no doubt be possible to defend poor Lotho's introduction of more efficient mills; but not of Sharkey and Sandyman's use of them." J.R.R.Tolkien letters The side of evil in Lotr, Mordor or rather the singular figure behind it, the one tyrant god-king who wants to rule the world and shape it according to HIS will (so Dark Lord Sauron) is indeed an evil that needs to be fought....obviously the difference between the war with him and Ancient war with Hylden in Nosgoth is that in Nosgoth there was that a deceptive tyrant figure (Elder God) manipulated the 'free folk' to fight........much in a way that Sauron deceived the Numenoreans (further corrupting them to evil) so they would wage war upon the gods themselves and try to invade Aman the Blessed Realm :). The spirituality of the Ancients, who valued life itself was taken advantage of and turned to their undoing......in a way this also resembles how the Elves were deceived by Sauron into forging the Rings of Power! Tolkien even called that the 'second fall' of the Elves! In Tolkien's world one also may note that while Elves are indeed more spiritual, nature, peace loving beings, they (or groups of them) too were apt to veer into scientific and technological the Noldor, High Elves were the ones who were always most interested in magic and machines as Tolkien put it! "But at Eregion great work began - and the Elves came their nearest to falling to 'magic' and machinery. With the aid of Sauron's lore they made Rings of Power ('power' is an ominous and sinister word in all these tales, except as applied to the gods)...." ... "Noldor] meant 'the Wise', that is those who have great knowledge and understanding. The Noldor indeed early showed the greatest talents of all the Elves both for intellectual pursuits and technical skills." History of Middle-earth XI The War of the Jewels "Part 4. Quendi and Eldar" Part C: The Clan-names "Noldor" ... "The Elves represent, as it were, the artistic, aesthetic, and purely scientific aspects of the Humane nature raised to a higher level than is actually seen in Men. That is: they have a devoted love of the physical world, and a desire to observe and understand it for its own sake and as ‘other’ - sc. as a reality derived from God in the same degree as themselves - not as a material for use or as a power-platform." In a way both Ancients and Hylden are on almost extreme ends, Ancients though still must have some quite engineering knowledge and technical skills (they must have used some sort of devices and machines, though they seem to be more...magically inclined) but Hylden were the extreme scientists scientists who have purely material science and technology at heart....the Elves are a bit of both :) also depending on specific group. The general similarities between Lotr and Legacy of Kain may be there :). "…Anyway all this stuff is mainly concerned with Fall, Mortality, and the Machine. With Fall inevitably, and that motive occurs in several modes. With Mortality, especially as it affects art and the creative (or as I should say, sub-creative) desire which seems to have no biological function, and to be apart from the satisfactions of plain ordinary biological life, with which, in our world, it is indeed usually at strife. This desire is at once wedded to a passionate love of the real primary world, and hence filled with the sense of mortality, and yet unsatisfied by it. It has various opportunities of ‘Fall’. It may become possessive, clinging to the things made as ‘its own’, the sub-creator wishes to be the Lord and God of his private creation. He will rebel against the laws of the Creator - especially against mortality. Both of these (alone or together) will lead to the desire for Power, for making the will more quickly effective, - and so to the Machine (or Magic). By the last I intend all use of external plans or devices (apparatus) instead of development of the inherent inner powers or talents - or even the use of these talents with the corrupted motive of dominating: bulldozing the real world, or coercing other wills. The Machine is our more obvious modern form though more closely related to Magic than is usually recognised." And Nosgoth sees this fall in practice :), mortality, the life and rebirth, and immortality of the vampires etc. power and domination.

    I had an optimistic thought after watching the Defiance blooper reel again today. I realized that the perfect replacement for Tony Jay in a Soul Reaver Remake might just be Turel's voice actor from Defiance, they have a similar cadence only Turel's voice actor sounds younger, but similar to Tony when he's using his normal speaking voice. Thanks guys. It was sexual! Hylden music in the background is great for presentations. Tidbits! .....the Machine was draining Janos to teach the Mass to target vampires. It took the blood of creatures, but must have been filtering out the vampiric essence from that blood to know who to hurt. Steal enough of that essence from Janos and what's left? The curse from hell that's tied to Janos' body. So he looked more like a hellion as his vampiric reserves drained away and the curse became almost all of what remained? Or something similarly worded. Like more exposure to hell tech distorted his body more demonic over time. Whatever. But then his Ancient angelic form snapped back into place right away after the Mass died! Like a soul rubber band. So, ? Based on those physics, there's hope for a quick cure for....all sorts of things. You need a bigger Machine than the pillars working on the cure for vampirism, though, it looks like, since the vampires never managed to reverse the curse with the tools they had. The hylden may have the missing toolkit for that? And/Or all the balance guardian spirits combined and purified. I'll stop now.

    The way I view it (if we're assuming both the Vampyres and Hylden were innocent (also using "Vampyre" to refer to the ancients rather than modern vampires)), both of them helped to develop mankind. The Vampyres provided them spiritual enlightenment and scorcery while the Hylden developed them at a technological level. However, "if God is for us, who could be against us"? Once the Elder God commanded the Vampyres to declare war on the Hylden, the humans sided with the Vampyres since "God was on their side", hence the hatred for both Vampyres and humans. Besides, all we know from the Hylden are the demonisation by the Vampyres, which a thousand years of intergenerational war would do, as well as the few scraps of art and interations with a few individuals, which we're already biased against. Also, for why the Seer escaped banishment, I think it's because she is a hybrid of Hylden and Vampyre that prevented the banishment from affecting her. Both races as a whole couldn't conceive of the thought that any individual members of the respective races could see past the hatred that ran so deep

BUt for what you describe the times doesnt match up, cause of that 200 years after bo1 thing, we saw the elder god 200 years before, concious. (maybe the hylden captured him?🤔) now i really struggle xD Concerning the lore in BO2 the archictecure in merdian is old, and was only dug up, together with the mass, so i bet, the first time they did that 2000 years ago whatnot, they created something bigger there. So its actually the birth of the elder god (but offscreen, the first time they used the mass), so the mass as we saw it would be the elder god 2 but kain kills it. that, or the elder god is a veeeeeeeery old vampire.
