The Arab world in the 1970s - Episode 1: Politics | Al Jazeera World Documentary

In a two-part series charting the 1970s in the Arab world, we revisit a decade of great change and long-term effects in the Middle East.
The first episode follows the politics of the time: the 1973 Arab-Israeli war; independence for former colonies; how oil transformed the Gulf economies; the toppling of governments by military coups; and the rise and fall of hopes of Arab unity.
These stories of the shifting sands of the 70s are told by many who were there, covering journalism, defence, politics, industry, activism and diplomacy. The second episode will trace cinema and drama in this transformative decade.

In an age of sponsored mainstream media, Al-Jazeera has come up with an encompassing, comprehensive, unbiased and informed documentary on Arab world politics.students of IR,pol science, public administration must watch this.

From a Khawager who worked in Arab World from 1975 to 2020, involved in all the Countries forming this video history, I found this production to be as informative as possible in such a ‘pocket’ version. I personally feel that as it covered events on a ‘macro’ scale it managed to avoid bias which would have been extremely difficult to maintain in a more ‘in depth’ analyses. Mubrook!

Could Al Jazeera please switch to English voiceovers vs English subtitles? It's so much more convenient, esp for those who listen to documentaries while doing other things. If there's something with subtitles, I have to save it only for when I'm able to have free time to actually "read" and watch instead of listen and watch. DW did a KZread poll 2-4years ago & voiceovers convincingly won. That's when they switched over.

Not a word about Black September (Arabic: أيلول الأسود; Aylūl Al-Aswad), also known as the Jordanian Civil War, was a conflict fought in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan between the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF), under the leadership of King Hussein, and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), under the leadership of Yasser Arafat, primarily between 16 and 27 September 1970, with certain aspects of the conflict continuing until 17 July 1971. Just curious why Al Jazeera preferred to skip it? An Inconvenient Truth about the Palestinian Narrative? Was Yasser Arafat a criminal after all?)))

I am laughing my head off. The ugly self proclaimed king of Africa. He used to pretend to hate Jews so much but let himself conned a none other than a Jew-Sarkozy. Bless Sarko, the hero.

The human world is a mess. As things are to better, a bad choice of man break it down, at all places. I thought the occidental world did all to never see an arab union's birth, with differend interferences, but that seems not to have been needed. So sad.
