There was a series on Channel 4 in UK back in the 90s - "My Generation" it was called. It was a series of half-hour documentaries on 60s bands - they did The Animals, Small Faces, Yardbirds, Troggs, Kinks and Herman's Hermits. This was The Animals episode. Don't think it's on DVD in the UK, sad to say.

For some reason, the British have this mistaken notion that Americans would never hear this music because they don't listen to black stations--and it took the Brits to re-imported back to us: RUBBISH! Steve Miller, Johnny Winter, Billy Gibbons, and Mark Farner all prove them wrong! They WERE listening to those black stations! They didn't get their blues "second hand", they got it "first hand". The same way the Animals, The Stones, and Eric Clapton did!

@Ruskellnw1 Thanks for that info. I do remember it being played here in the states too, late 90s, I believe on VH1. It's a shame documentaries such as this aren't available readily on DVD.

@ms8596 Ah, well, you could do worse than hunt down something called "And finally.... Eric Burdon". I've got it on VHS, and I believe it came out on DVD. It covers Eric's whole career, but naturally centres on The Animals. It goes over much the same ground as this, and includes contributions from Messrs Chandler (RIP), Valentine and Steel (Pricey is conspicuous by his absence). Ebay or Amazon may be worth a visit

Mike Jeffries: a "nice guy", if you can over look the fact that he almost certainly had Jimi Hendrix killed, because he was worth far more dead than alive! (time has pretty much proven this to be true, whether it was his doing with the constant album re-releases , on top of owning all of Jimi's songwriting and publishing royalties (not to mention 100% of electric ladyland studio), or the doings of the mobsters backing him that held all the accidental death insurance claims for Jimi)!!! And that's just 1 of his artists. like all the other english managers, he legally stole about 90 to 99% of all the bands money: past, present, and future!

Yes, same tribal business model as Don Arden.Outright violent criminals, but they were the Self Chosen parasites, and not quite "English" so we can't mention that 🤐without being accused of being an antiparasitemite ! 😱

Alan Price was a KEY component, you looked at him and Eric, the rest of the band could've been anyone, their tension came through the screen, also Prices Elisabethan-type phrasing made it more than just a blues hack band which made them stand out, but for a couple of good song choices their appeal soon disappeared after Prices departure

Price turned out to be a real prick though in refusing to share the royalties for hotrs. Alan Price receives all royalties for The Animals' "The House of the Rising Sun" as there wasn't room for all 5 band members' names on the record label ("Alan" was first alphabetically). When Chas Chandler proposed that they all split the royalties equally, Price told him to go fuck himself.

@@bernicemoore5182 you’re absolutely right. Alan Price was a real .... for not sharing the royalties with the rest of the group, and I noticed in part 1 of this interview he liked to give Eric a couple of jabs with his ignorant comments.
