Single core is MOST important for emulation, unless you’re running rpcs3, that one requires more cores, but everything else is single core heavy

I have also an iPad Pro M4 256GB. The performance cores are clocked at 4.41 GHz, the efficiency cores are clocked at 2.89 GHz. The performance is insane, the screen is gorgeous, battery life is great and it doesn’t get hot like my previous M2 iPad Pro.

I recently purchased one of these as a laptop replacement. It's my first ever iPad, and there isn't anything about it that I don't love.

I’ve had iPads for a long time and they’re great when they can do what you need them to. But I do have 2 issues with em. They completely lack expandable storage. Getting more storage costs and arm and a leg when a 1tb microSD card now costs under a hundred bucks. And the lack of sideloading still means we can’t run a bunch of higher end emulators on em. I really do hope we get aethersx2 and dolphin on the App Store sooner rather than later.

Don’t do it! I’ve made that kind of replacement with mi M2 IPad Pro and iPad Os is so useful. My 450$ windows laptop is a way better for work, even gaming. If you want to play in an iPad you will have to pay more for everything. The iPad is a nerfed MacBook, or a really powerful Netflix/youtube device… I’m gonna sell it and buy a MacBook or a gaming windows machine

Horrible battery life, screen quality, software stability, ecosystem, security, speakers, design, the list goes on and on. The iPad Pro is better than any windows computer.

Apple definitely should have left Intel behind… I’m an x86 fan since 1990, but what Apple is doing with these chips is incredible. My IPad Pro M4 13” sucks down 3 to 4 Watts when watching a youtube video. 3 to 4 Watts! Incredible. And on the Windows side, Snapdragon X Elite seems to be excellent for battery life… the ARM invasion is here, and I wonder if Intel can keep up?

Dual layer full RGB OLED ,m4 There is no company giving you anything similar so it's not exactly expansive as it doesn't have a comparison but since most people don't need such a high end device and a 100$ tablet is enough Then comparing a professional device vs a Budget one for different segments of a market then yeah it's maybe not a Fair comparison but it would be an expensive device in that perspective

it's crazy and it's not crazy at all: it's the same price as one would pay for a macbook air... and it's actually the same CPU chip on both (soon on the macbooks)... with a better screen! But nobody is forcing us to spend that much... there are great iPads for as little as 400$. Apple is just testing its consumer base on how much they're ready to spend on an iPad... if the market is responding to this call, they'll continue to rise that ipad price... ;-))

I’ve been carrying an iPad around for more than half a decade and use it constantly. Decided it was time for an upgrade this year, what with the new Apple Pencil. Went with the 1tb model for the extra cpu core and double the ram. I work as an artist and the primary use will be for illustration, but I’m definitely going to use it for some gaming now too :D

It won’t run without jit

You can full screen on an external display by clicking the 3 dots and selecting Full Screen. I use PS Remote Play like this all the time by connecting my iPad Pro to a TV or monitor.

Can you test it with some CRT shaders and use the HDR Headroom from the tandem OLED? This screen is capable of 1,000 nits full screen so it should be really good for CRT Shader emulation

When in stage mode you can tap the 3little dots icon on top of the window to make it full screen.

Hey, if you turn off the stage manager, they will go to fullscreen mode but ipad will be mirrored. You can do it from the control centre or the settings.

Just out of curiosity what were the temps like. Running games that high did it get hot🤔

Can you test with the iPad Air six because I want to see the same result like like you just did because I want to see what the external modern and other accessory things

what was the refresh rate on both the ipad and external display when you connected them together?

Rocking performance as expected... all Mx chips r great for gaming if code is optimized well enough.

You know this happened back in the 90s as well it's amazing but also extremely expensive. Proprietary architecture got decommissioned back then because of costs of manufacturing and speed of progress, I wonder how long this is gonna last and/or if the recycling of materials can mitigate this risk.

This would actually be amazing for a musician with the DAW running on an external screen and the softsynths showing on the internal screen If they would allow the tablets to run eg Logic Pro or other DAWs made for the Macs. With the new Apple silicon I don't get why they havn't done that yet as there theoretically shouldn't be any difference in the hardware. It's all based on the same chips today.

Not only 1 additional core, but 1 additional performance core so you get 33% more performance cores with the unbinned version. That should add quite a lot to the multicore score. I'm curious how much it'll add.

I think you should have really mentioned the 5ms response time ont he screen which makes a huge difference from tbe previous ipads for gaming in my opinion.

You need to connect a Bluetooth keyboard to get the real full screen mode on an external monitor.

Its fast for a tablet but not compared to a pc. The M4 running AC Mirage is nowhere near even a 7 year old pc card (1080Ti). That runs on ultra at 60fps pinned. M4 runs at 30fps with dips to 20-25. Maybe its the game but TFLOPS makes sense. I mean the 1080Ti card (just the card) is 10x thicker than the ipad, let alone the pc.

@@gold333 The 780M is an iGPU, not a discrete one. And the GPU in this IS comparable to it. This is faster in CPU performance than a 8840hs. And I think it's GPU too.

My 2017 ipad pro works well but time to upgrade. The M4 Pro looks amazing but a bit overkill for me. Im looking at the 13 Air for my viewing , gaming, and remoting into my work PC. I will really miss the 120hz.

iPad Pro is a much better deal down the road all around M2 air screen sucks not to mention It has 128gb base storage and to get it to 256GB itll cost u the same amount of money if not more than the base Ipad pro M4

It's unanimously said that iPad software is nowhere near utilizing the full potential of the hardware. Logic Pro and Final Cut didn't come to the iPad until recently. Even then, they are still missing some features and a number of plugins from their macOS counterparts. Pretty much any major desktop software that has an iPadOS version is lacking in one area or others. For the purposes of this video, previous generation iPads have ran side loaded emulators with ease including the harder to emulate systems. There won't be anything this iPad will do that previous iPads can't already do other than run titles at higher resolutions and display everything on a nice OLED screen. So yes, it's overkill in every way possible.

Just an FYI. When you changed Genshin Impact settings to highest, you needed to restart the game for it to apply a lot of the new settings (shadows, new shaders etc etc). You ignored the pop up lol.

That's the thing I wish they fixed with stage manager. I like mirroring my display when I'm drawing but I hate that the apps don't go full screen. If they did it would make a better better computer replacement and better for gaming

Yeah but that single core is boosted excessively by object detection benchmark which is important but it increases score by about 500 points. And this is actually offloaded to ane. So without it you’re looking at about 3300. Still impressive but more in line with 10% clock bump

I think you forgot to mention expandable memory on the S9.

"Object detection" on Geekbench 6, inflates the single core score a bit on M4, t's not as large of a jump as it seems vs M3.

Just so you know the reason for the large score is due to the ai upgrade there's a specific benchmark that just ups the score

Crazy to think if Apple had this kind of power difference against the competition across the board in all hardware especially for iphones 💀 At least this shows that there's a bit more to an overpowered ipad than just being the ultimate procreate system for artists 😅

False, you CAN save to roms locally to the device! You can also save them to the cloud and transfer roms between devices.

Even though apple has allowed emulators, JIT is still not allowed which all of the modern emulators require, so sadly until Apple allows that we might not see great performances in modern system emulators, if they release that is (tbh I am pretty skeptical of them releasing in the first place)

The M4 is crazy fast, compare this tablet with a RTX 4090, just the GPU is 5-10 times bigger then the hole tablet. Technically apple could build a gaming pc, but very very small like a tablet!!
