Awesome to see some emulation testing, seems like there is a wealth of content potential for you test on iOS/iPadOS devices with all these emulator apps dropping, we just got retroarch recently. Hopefully we see more powerful systems come available because the M1/M2 ipads could so much, let alone the M4. Would love to see PS2 and Gamecube show up eventually if Apple would allow JIT compilation.

Nice video, very much what I’ve been looking for. I have the 16GB 13” and I think you’d be impressed with RE Village with the higher ram options. I maxed it out entirely in the settings and had a great experience FPS wise. I don’t have a tool like you do but visually, while playing, I enjoyed it a lot. Hope this video reaches more people.

You can custom graphics settings of Death Stranding by importing cfg files of Steam version, it can improve graphics and unlock up to 120fps and Resident Evil 4 and VIII by changing game files as well, but still lock 30fps I tried these method on iPhone15Pro, graphics become awesome, can’t believe this is mobile game

@@midogaming2141 actually the use of my ipaf m2 pro is 3d animation and drawing/sketching and editing.. that’s why i need this ipad so badly i can use it anywhere specially when i want to sketch or draw in a beach/park.. so my option to upgrade is the ipad mini with atleast m2 and m5 because of the new ray tracing because i play nba2k and call of duty warzone mobile.. but the m4 still not worth for me i think the ray tracing in m4 still experimental.. so i can still hold my self to that.. so ill skip the m4 and see the m5 or the mini ipad m2 ( for a comportable use anywhere )

Hey for the ppsspp test you should have used the auto setting for resolution since it will render the game at the resolution of the ipad screen since anything above is a waste with higher heat (also this emulator sadly right now doesn’t support metal api for graphics)

They should do an iPad made for gaming I bet that would be something Interesting to see

I did change framerate option from 1 to 2 using Zachiver on my android phone then ported the file to the game but it didn’t work it just resets again how can I fix it?

You should always add Aerofly FS global in with all settings, maxed out, including clouds while flying over a big city

Written May 18, 2024 Good job buddy. The M4 really makes easy work on resident evil 8 with the Prioritize graphics. Assassins Creed Mirage is coming June 6 to iOS so I wonder how it’ll look and if Ubisoft will let us customize the graphics of that game like RE8 I’ll be getting the M4 iPad in October/November and comparing it to my M1 to see how the games look as hopefully they’ll all be updated by then

trtrop. It’s a pain to use as it takes ages to analyse gameplay and sometimes it’s inaccurate… you have to fiddle a lot with the programs settings for each game or else it won’t measure performance correctly.

iPad 11 pro m4 can’t even last ten hours light usage with web browsing and KZread let alone gaming, tandem oled panel sucks juice even at lowest brightness, m4 not optimized and efficient kernel level in iOS code yet

Also if anyone is interested, GRID Autosport and XCOM2 also run pretty well, in all graphics modes

The performance drop could be due to the M4 having only 3 performance cores, as opposed to all other previous M-series iPads that have 4. So if the devs optimised to take advantage of 4 performance cores, now one of their threads are relegated to the efficiency cores. I know overall the M4 is faster, but only because they bumped the clocks from 3.4 to 4.4 Ghz, and benchmarks tend to spread out to all cores. Game titles don't automatically run do this, as they might have been designed to expect 4 P-cores and so performance is inconsistent with the expectation.

I don’t know especially how games are made to run on iOS. But in general, outside of console gaming, multi core CPUs are not used that well. A lot of games rely a lot on single core performance. Also most iOS devices are iPhones, and these use dual cores high performance CPUs. Most games have to work on these and they’re probably the target hardware for development. I’d say the main limiting factor on M4 is memory bandwidth at roughly 120GB/s, it’s way too low compared to the GPU power available on this chip. Also the passive cooling is still subpar.

@GarrusVakarian-to2uh Well, the M4 chip features 1280 ALUs, as many as Xbox Series S. I don’t think adding more cores is the priority right now. People complain about memory bandwidth on Series S, being only at 228GB/s, M4 have half of that. For me, the priority would be to make a M chip with a 256bit memory interface instead of 128bit. This way the GPU will have a LOT more leeway to show its muscles. The last time an Apple GPU had enough bandwidth for its GPU was A12X/Z. 448 ALUs (X) / 512 ALUs (Z), 1TF GPUs with 68.2 GB/s, it was a rough match for Xbox One. Since then the memory bandwidth didn’t even double, when GPU performance skyrocketed (more than 3 times more powerful)

M chips bandwidth is still not enough and I'm almost sure that's where the issue lies. 4TF GPUs with such low memory bandwidth is baffling, but that's the constraint of mobile chips. If Apple want to step up their game. They need to put big money on a 256bit memory interface

@@ricarmig Well they could very well put slower memory in a wider interface to counter the increase in energy, and they would still end up with faster data flowing in RAM. Also, Apple does always want to reach the same battery life. If they were to integrate better memory, they could also increase the thickness to put a bigger battery. There’s options available to improve, the fact they don't want to improve is the issue. It's called Pro and it cost an arm, it should be able to perform wonderfully, yet it's crippled by limitations that don't make sense. People complain about software on iPads but even hardware is still relatively limited in crucial areas. The next gen Nintendo Switch is rumored to have a 4TF GPU with ~120GB/s bandwidth. The same GPU and RAM performance as M4. But it's understandable considering it's likely a $400 product.

8gb of ram is criminal on a Pro device in 2024.

If this was an actual desktop OS, maybe. I think we have bigger problems on iPad considering we don’t even have a functional files app still. Also, the “Pro” naming scheme is meaningless. 8GB is unacceptable on any of their Macs, including the Macbook Air.

MrMacRight!! There's a hidden performance punished gem! *Rush Rally Origins* If I run it maxed out on my 512GB M4 ipad and within litererally few seconds the Apple logo was burning hot to the touch. And yet the game looked faaar below 100fps, perhaps even dipping below 60fps. I lack mesuring equipment/software though... 1940p resolution and everything maxed out causes microstutters. Perhaps its just horrendously optimised, or just extremely GPU heavy. If possible, run it on an M3 Max in native "4K" or an 8K TV if the game cant push it hard enough. 128GB VRAM should suffice ;) Anyway, thought I'd mention it. Since the game is rather cheap for a game that can max out most SoCs :)

Even though Switch only has just over 100 million devices in use, for these types of games, they sell more software. It is just down to consumer mentality. Apple needs to do a lot of marketing work to change this mentality. A dedicated gaming device and their own controller would help. They also need to fund a lot more ports and day 1 releases. They will lose money on these for a long time, but in the long run it can work out if consumers start seeing the light. Just imagine if there was a Switch like device that got the same amount of console style games as Switch, had 5 hours of battery life on the most demanding games and 8-10 hours on indies, and had the power of M4 or even M1. Or a TV box with the same GPU as M3 Max.

Bro no one will be nervous. Apple has 0 chance of taking over Nintendo let alone PC/PS5/Xbox series X. You know why? Coz they have 0 original games.And the lack of proper cooling system these ports aren't worth playing. Sure it may run okayish for 15-20mins to make a video or take a ss, but no actual gamers plays their games for 20-30mins max.

Bear in mind most people are recommending buying GPUs with at least 12G of ram for gaming. Yeah, you can write a custom version for Mac that uses less ram, but it will have to load from the SSD on the fly. And that will result in more hitches in the frame rate.

this would have been way more meaningful if you went with sideloading or emulated games. looking at customization up-scaling is a downer. for me, the resolution of 4k 4:3 is the draw of ipad and if you have to upscale to hit the FPS theres no point.

You should probably test out Roblox since some games have intensive graphics too
