The Airgun Show | Awesome squirrel hunting| Walther Rotex RM8 review

Спорт

Mat Manning is hunting squirrels while putting a new feeder to the test and it turns out to be an awesome session. The destructive rodents can’t resist the peanut bait station and Mat puts his Daystate Huntsman Safari to good use during what turns out to be an action packed shooting trip.
Also in this week’s episode, Mat has a review of the Walther Rotex RM8. This excellent air rifle boasts good looks and remarkable accuracy, and delivers a lot of bang for your buck.

    The RM8 barrel flexes and moves the POI if you lean it on anything, plus (and one of the designers admitted this to me), the O ring on the Mag lifts the pellet and causes it to clip as it enters the breach - thus ruining accuracy.

    That's not a problem I have ever experienced. I have had my RM8 UC for years - it's had some heavy use and I've never had issues with shifting POI. The one featured here delivered one of the tightest test groups that we've had for months - I wouldn't expect that if there was a problem with pellet seating. All the best. Mat

    Another great video Got in to the hobby during lockdown. My first gun was the Varmint version of the RM8 UC, which was a very good starting point. By coincidence I recently upgraded to the Daystate Huntsman Revere Safari! Whilst the RM8 was good, the Daystate is just so much better and demonstrates that sometimes you really do get what you pay for! I too use QYS domed and also get fantastic accuracy. I don't think I will ever need to buy another air rifle !

    Great vid! I keep hearing those regals are lazer accurate! thought I was in for a similar day but the squirrels on my shoot are still caching the nuts away? (4kg a day) I’ve watched them do it and I can’t keep up with feeder (same sort as this) and time out to do it let alone the costs. The only thing I can think is to use a traditional bird cage feeder but don’t like the idea of shots they will present while eating them. If anyone has ideas on what I could do it would appreciated

    Protecting reds, protecting indigenous species, preventing predation on songbird eggs/chicks, preventing damage to trees. Just some of the reasons.

  • @theshootingshow

    @theshootingshow

    2 ай бұрын

    Grey squirrels are an introduced species and have a huge negative impact on our native wildlife. The harm they cause to red squirrel populations is acknowledged by most people, but they also impact on native songbirds and small mammals, including dormice - this takes the form of stealing eggs and young from nests and also by monopolising natural food sources. Grey squirrels also cause extensive tree damage - primarily by stripping bark. This is costly to forestry operations but also reduces habitat and natural food for native species. These are the main reasons for controlling them. As for being cruel, a swift shot to the head is a lot more humane than a natural death in the wild. Being eaten by a buzzard, contracting a disease or dying of starvation or hypothermia are the natural alternatives. Thanks for watching. Mat

    @@theshootingshow Thanks for the detailed and very informative reply. I wasn't sure if something like this was done for fun or something to do with environmental issues' I know they are classed as vermin and can cause lots of damage to people's houses in lofts etc but didn't know of the issue with wildlife and the trees as well. Nice set up by the way and very accurate shooting.
