The ADHD economy

Everyone knows someone who is on Adderall: ADHD diagnoses are at an all-time high and trending on TikTok. Our guest, Daniel Kolitz (x.com/danielkolitz) , author of The History of Adderall (pioneerworks.org/broadcast/cl...) for Pioneer Works, tells us about the rise of the medication, how it’s changed the way we work, and his own experience on and off the drug.
Also, Vass and Katrina self-diagnose via some questionable online quizzes.

Here's some of what the medications do if you have ADHD, to a large extent : 300% increased Death by Misadventure is reduced 300% increased Death by Suicide is vastly reduced 300% increased of an automobile fatality is vastly reduced vast decrease in Homelessness vast decrease in impulsive crime (murder, theft and rape) Vast reductions in Addictions average life expectancy of a person increase by 12 years when treated I could go on for about 30 more lines, but the items seems trivial, such as being able to be employed, having good dental hygiene, such that you don't lose most of your teeth, you save your money for an imagined future so you aren't destitute and by just not living a completely demolished life , your need to use substances to cope is greatly reduced Basically most Human GRIEF is reduced by the ability to remember and not be a slave to immediate Gratification and being Forward LOOKING AND BEING ABLE TO PLAN ! The DRUGS IMPROVE EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING ! (higher cognitive abilities, basically what Donald Trump lacks) Your Video is irresponsible and generally a LIE !..Try Interviewing a Doctor or psychologist

While I understand the perspective of the person that has been on adderall asking, "what if I hadn't been on adderall, how could my life have been different" . Well I'll tell you, I was just diagnosed last week and I ask the exact opposite question. I'm not blaming all my lives woes on ADD, but if I were diagnosed at the age of 9 and not 44, I also wonder what would have changed. would I still have the social anxiety I have? Would I have still failed out of university. Would my working life have involved so many late nights finishing client projects before deadlines? Would I have a wife, children? Would my house not have as many started but not finished projects? So many what ifs. I'm not on Adderall, but I am starting my nonstimulant medications this week. I am hoping that some of these pieces start to come together for me, and I hope people have some understanding that not everyone is jumping on the ADHD bandwagon because Tic Tok says so (I don't have the app). But Social media did prompt me to put a name to what I have been dealing with for a long time. So I'm thankful for that. Thanks for the discussion, it was very interesting.

Painful to listen to one person’s person extended to an entire population. His motivation was to get an attention getting writing an inflammatory article as if the condition wasn’t impairing. Full of exaggerations and distortions. You could have interviewed an actual expert, a therapist, a doctor specializing in ADHD.

Typical American nuanceless interview. Felt like he had a mission to complete or some ultior motive behind the interview. Maybe need more funding? The problem with lack of studies supporting how well the treatment is for adults, also means that there is no support for that it doesn't work. Feels a researcher should be able to grasp that concept....
