I honestly feel andor wasn't marketed correctly. When I heard about the show I thought it was Disney milking the series and felt andor didn't really need a background show. But I was so wrong.

Given Disney's track record with character centric prequels, the series was about a not so interesting character that didn't need a back story. Then it came out, and Cassian Andor was the vessel for us to navigate the world. He is actually the least interesting part of the show, but gosh... Mon Mothma, and Kino Loy (Andy Serkis), and freaking Luthien... Gosh...

When I first started watching this channel I didn't even have Disney+. I was listening to SW audiobooks with my son and looking for lore explanations and possible ideas of new stories to check out. We now have Disney+ and Andor was my fist go-to show because of your enthusiasm for it. I appreciated that because I may not have even cared about it, otherwise. I'm hesitant about checking out Obi-Wan and Ahsoka, because I don't want to experience people potentially 'screwing up' my internalized version of those characters. The advantage of Andor, and now this show, is that they have a clean slate to invent new characters and not tread upon existing (major) ones. Hence, I'll also give it a shot.

I agree. I think the easiest way for disney going forward is to move away from existing characters and create their own because no matter what direction they are taken there will always be a loud minority who complain about it. This is why I am excited for the acolyte as this is an opportunity for a different show that isn't too connected to everything else and could also provide additional law for the high republic period, which I will not say no to. Also thanks for giving andor a chance, more people really need an open mindset like yours that is willing to accept new content.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Andor. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Luthen's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Andor truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Luthen’s existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Tony Gilroy’s genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Andor tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

It seems like it's the same problem we've seen for a long time, people have the wrong focus. Whether it's behind the camera, casting, publicity, and even praise and criticisms. It should be "this is the person's skill, knowledge, motivation, etc and oh by the way they are " What we actually get is "This is isn't it cool!!!" and "They are it's going to suck." The sequels don't suck because of representation, they suck because of bad writing because they were too focused on pushing the representation. Rogue 1 wasn't great because of representation, it's great because they focused on good writing. Andor isn't great because it has a straight white male lead, it's great because they focused on good writing. I refuse to judge The Acolyte based on women director, woman main role, diverse cast, or anything like that. I'm going to judge it the exact same way I judge everything else, on if it is well written.

Making Star Wars is not like making widgets. If "The Force Is Female", per KK's slogan, then maybe it just isn't all that interesting to typical male SW audiences any more. I'm not lobbying to make Pride & Prejudice, Barbie and Bridgerton more male. Those shows weren't made for men - they are generally made by and for women - and I don't need to bend them to my will and desires. I recognize that men and women can have different interests. That's cool. And I can even enjoy those products on their own terms (or not) without needing to bend them to my gender norms. Are there female SW fans? Absolutely! Does KK hire any of them. Quite obviously not. As they say in politics, Personnel is Policy.

My only issue with Solo... was Solo (and 'i'm alone = Solo'). Even after multiple viewings (4 now, i think), Alden Ehrenreich just doesn't capture the original Han Solo feel for me. Anthony Ingruber, who has both the chops *AND* had already played 'young harrison ford' quite convincingly, would have done so much better for it. But also, after all the viewings, I just take the whole thing as an 'alternate origins' story. In which case, Alden made the role his own, just fine. And Donald Glover did a pretty decent young Lando.

The problem is, I don't have time to sift through all the trash to find the gem. Identity politics contribute to this issue by fostering hatred for the opposing side. It's up to whoever starts it to stop, or someone else needs to step in and end it permanently. Honestly, I think the solution might be for Star Wars to fail and be shelved long enough for it to be picked up by someone less like a typical executive. I suspect Disney views the fan conflict as good advertising.

Alec Guinness was just looking for an easy paycheck and knew nothing about the story or the character of Obi Wan. Harrison Ford thought the whole thing was silly and didn't really take his role seriously. Some actors only signed on because they saw that Peter Cushing and Alex Guinness were involved, and figured it must be good if they're in it. I always find something I like even in some of the stuff I used to hate. But in todays 24/7 social media environment we are constantly bombarded with all types of views, good and bad. The Jedi Order became more conservative and the Senate was left with a two-tier membership that would eventually lead to the Clone Wars (as the fresh arrivals felt ignored and exploited by the traditional power-holders). Screw the studio politics, basically - if the franchise doesn't break new ground it's going to die.

It's not because she's a woman, nor a lesbian. It's because she's an ACTIVIST first, then a DIRECTOR. That's her own words. She will go out of her way to put her own ideology into whatever she works on and the trailers lend credence to that concern. Kathleen kennedy is going out of her way to find people like this to work on Star Wars, which is why there's so much anger and frustration from fans. If it were only due to being a woman, fans wouldn't be so up in arms about Ruin Johnson and his destruction of SW lore in Episode 8. The Rey character is a mary sue template. Reva is a similar character. It's not the actresses fault, it's that they were very poorly written. (Leia, Padme, Shaak Ti, and even Shmi Skywalker were written well enough.) Because of Kathleen Kennedy and her ilk, Disney still hasn't made back the amount they paid George for Star Wars. Why? Because she shouldn't be in charge, she's doing what SHE wants to do, not what needs to be done for Star Wars and to make quality content that the majority of fans enjoy.

I have watched the quality of ability degrade at the place where they learn their craft over the course of 30 years as the focus shifted from *HOW TO WRITE ENGAGING STORIES* to how to push whatever is currently in vogue on the political left. They do not finish the class if they do not adhere to and mimic the professor's politics. George Lucas also was *never* an activist. And YOU know that. He has always been passionate in regards to his beliefs, and that does inform his writing. But his writing has never been about pushing politics. By discarding people's issues with activist writers who are only there to push politics you disregard the concerns of most of the audience. Characters that don’t matter to the core story, set in a time period that is irrelevant, that's gonna be politically charged, where good and bad are blurred, resulting most likely in characters that are ambiguous and poorly defined in intention and value, in a universe that has tried and failed repeatedly to do the same thing over and over, may fail. Who could've thought!!! The fact is creative criticism has been made and done with. I don’t know if you can have a channel and not run out of things to say in a month. And so negativity spiral. It’s really a mark of how much we truly care about Star Wars that we still care enough to watch anything bout it. But I’ll definitely watch Andor thanks

You do know the heroes of the original trilogy are based on Viet Cong ( Lucas said it himself in an interview with James Cameron). The emperor and storm troopers stylized similarly to Nazi Germany. Star Wars has always been political, the VC were literally communist and George drew inspiration from their guerilla tactics. We should ban the OG trilogy

‘Identity politics’ is actually not a 1st world problem at all, it’s very much a 3rd world problem. Look at Lebanon, India, Africa, all riven and destroyed by identities of sect, caste, religion and ethnicity. The USA has become 3rd world and ‘identity politics’ is just another symptom.

The rule of Disney StarWars is that is quality is inversley proportional to the number of Force Users and legacy characters it has. Given that this will be overflowing with Force Users, but have zero legacy characters their is a SLIM chance that the show could be good, but will be no where near as good as Andor which avoided both poison pills.

The reason ive stopped watching, collecting and playing certain franchises is simple. I was told its now political and that its not made for me. Thats fine, i have my VCRs, vinels, old consols and models. I still have my friends and memories. Im not angry or frustrated anymore. I have my niche, collections and backlog to keep me busy so honestly franchises can do what they want these days.

Once again this channel shows why it's the best Star Wars channel around. So few creators are willing to give a nuanced percpective on Star Wars, it's either all negative or all positive. Personally I think Disney Star Wars has been a mixed bag with some absolutely stellar shows like Andor and the Mandalorian. I personally was really disappointed in the sequels, but I don't have a problem with still enjoying other Star Wars content. That being said, I have almost no interest in the Acolyte. Something about it feels off to me.

I want to thank you for all your spot-on commentary on both SW and our society- you make very educational and enjoyable content and it is much appreciated. I was also frustrated people were tagging "Andor" with much hated terms that it simply wasn't guilty of. Like you said, people either didn't watch it at all, or took a few specific lines way out of context. You can easily argue that this show unveiled both the good and bad in not just one, but various political and social ideologies. It was a very unresearched and immature approach people took to mis-labeling and over-generalizing perhaps the most intriguing and important piece of narrative Star Wars ever.

I agree. It's why anime is a lot more pleasant to watch on average than a lot of western media. Most of my favorite protagonists and shows usually have a female lead, but they are in mostly anime. Too much western heavy handed preaching to you and looking down on the audience. Missing the point of entertainment.
