I don't feel like the initial lower-stakes vibe is problematic. I actually really despise contemporary media's tendency to raise the stakes so steeply and immediately-- in such a rush-- as if it needs to always outdo stakes previously established in older stories. The need to be "more epic"-- frequently to meet the expectations of overly-desensitized audiences that will lose interest if a story begins in a more organic, relaxed-- true life way. My immersion is immediately decimated by stories that rush into the high stakes, endgame-worthy crises that honestly should leave the viewers wondering "well wth are they even going to do after this?" So for me, the subtle development of this story is incredibly refreshing-- much like Andor was for me. I have a feeling there may be a similar divide along fans that like this show and that liked Andor. I guess we'll see. Also, I always love your political discussions and also how you nuance it into the content as well. Great messages, and great channel.

And to compare this lower stakes plot to other, more recent Star Wars projects, works like The Mandalorian didn’t necessarily have galaxy-altering stakes, but was instead more focused on a specific corner of this timeline with a select group of characters and their personal journeys (even if the stories declined overtime). Conversely, when the story became more massive, as the proposed conflict between Mandalorians was promptly sidetracked to have one final clash with the Empire, it suffered greatly, losing its focus on character in favor of spectacle. If this story manages to make its personal stakes, which is currently Osha and Mae being on opposite sides of a conflict neither one fully understands, as well as having a satisfying answer to the nature of the apparent crimes the targeted Jedi Masters committed, well written and interesting enough, the plot won’t need to involve potential destruction of worlds or interstellar war to be interesting or to be considered as having stakes.

Best attitude to have really, personally I thought most of the old EU was absolute crap but plenty of people liked plenty of it and there was stuff there I liked too. Personally I like most of what Disney have produced that I've seen so far, didn't like the sequel films and found the majority of Andor just painfully dull (don't get me wrong when it was good it was amazing but I think they made it too long so the pace was just really bad) and those were the only real ones I had any real issues with, I'll even defend Resistance, once that show gets going it's actually pretty good, especially in actually making the first order y'know...intimidating they did a far better job with that time period than the sequel trilogy and it's a shame it didn't continue but I digress... No sense being reactionary and hateful all the time, just chill out and move on, maybe have slightly more relaxed expectations for Star Wars too, it's awesome and I love it, always have for as long as I can remember, but BFFR it ain't exactly ever been the most highbrow art nor has it really ever tried to be, it's a simple baddies v goodies story that is occasionally told well and visually interesting, not least because it is intended for younger audiences.

Thank you for being so honest. In the sea of content creators it’s hard to find ones that aren’t pandering or playing into some algorithmic agenda. I’ve become very jaded towards Star Wars, not just because of lackluster content, but because of everything around it too. It’s just exhausting. I went into this show with very low expectations but came out of the first two pretty happy and impressed. I like all the characters and want to see where it goes from here. The stand out was definitely Sol! It’s nice to feel something other than apathy with this franchise, but the toxicity online has reminded me just how important it is to give things a chance and to make up your own thoughts on something rather than follow what others say. At the end of the day, we all need to take a step back and realize what truly matters in life. It’s just a show, give it a shot. Don’t be afraid to say you like it. And if you don’t, it’s okay. People are judging this new show as if it's already done, even though only 1/4th of the season has been aired. I notice that so far, the show skirts dangerously close to unnecessary dramatic tropes meant to pad out runtime, but unlike the majority of the New Republic in the other shows, the characters here are capable of logic and critical thinking. I'll wait to see how the rest of the show goes. For all I know, the characters could pull a Loki S1 or Secret Invasion and just turn everyone stupid in one episode to forward the plot, but I'm liking it so far. The first two episodes were pretty good. I haven't read any High Republic era books so my expectations, even for a lifelong fan, are low. I do like the murder mystery aspect and I hope they lean heavy into it while fleshing out this era. If they can explore some current topics along the way, I'm all for it if it's good storytelling. Having twin Force users is seperated due to a past traumatic event is a not so subtle nod to the Skywalkers and I like it. Yord is my favorite so far, he follows Osha and finally comes around to believing and maybe trusting her.

After watching the first two episodes, my take is: As a "who dun it" mystery it has my interest. Though I would say they are revealing "The conspiracy" too fast. I have also noticed a trend of making characters dumb... Either to give room for other characters to explain what is going on, or maybe to make the audience feel smarter than the characters? That trend needs to go away. Why does Master Sol need to tell Knight Jurd that a person he has known for years, used to be a jedi? My take on why Mae is going after the Jedi? The two sisters were split up, to be sent to be trained at different sects. The Jedi who sent Mae are her marks, as she blames them for her sisters death. Who is the Master? No clue yet, but splitting up twins and sending one to be taught by darksiders seems like a terrible idea

There was some drama about Yord's actor not being knowledgeable enough about star wars and I feel like it fits his character. He seems fresh out of the padawan ranks and doesn't have as much understanding of the Jedi and the Order as the masters we've seen did. I think a character like this would have been really hard for someone like a Sam Witwer (and I love Sam's work in the star wars universe!) who just knows so much about it. I'm intrigued. I enjoyed the episodes, and the clear establishment of duality as a theme of the series: two titles, two sisters etc. but most importantly (especially to those commenting so far about the show having a fast pace) the "two stories" - the surface one which is running quick: chasing down may, but then the slower one building in the background: what did the 4 jedi do on may and oshas home world? What did they do that some dark side user is willing to risk exposure (as far as we're aware so far) for this truth to be revealed? So if we're blasting through the usual "she did it, no she didn't, OH HUT SHES OVER THE DEAD BODY SO SHE DID IT, but now I believe that she didn't" it's because, that isn't the true story, it's just the surface level stuff.

Masters Sol and Qui-Gon both represent the key aspect that the Jedi had lost over their millennia of degradation and stagnation: compassion. Real, genuine compassion cannot exist without emotion, but it must be moderated with wisdom. Thousands of years of peace and the isolation of the Jedi from the suffering on individual levels across the galaxy led them to complacency, it made them a step removed from the galaxy at large. That disconnection destroys the capacity for compassion. That's what I take from their portrayals, at least.

Man, that was a great little monologue on politics and society. It really is amazing to think about the differences that could be made if we all just stopped being angry at each other and tried to find the common grounds. The most vocal and annoying people about politics on either side are the minority. I think most people would find out that they agree with one another if they just took the time to talk. We all share a lot of common goals. I grew up with a very abrasively conservative father who is so obsessed about making sure the "libs" get owned as much as possible. But when I stepped out of the echo chamber, I came to find out that the every day democrats/liberals out there were mostly good and honest people that just see life differently. It's nice to have quiet and honest discussion with people to learn about different world views and beliefs, it can either help you see the way you think more clearly or maybe change your position a little. As far as The Acolyte goes, I wasn't really psyched about this going into it with all the press surrounding it, but having watched the first two episodes I was actually pretty captivated by the story. As you stated, a fresh take. I love Master Sol and Yord as a character is endearing in a goofy way. Guy is just trying to be the difference in the universe but hasn't quite figured out how to do it so he is just awkward about it. The musical cues were really nice, very evocative of the prequel trilogy, same for the sound design imho. Was very cool to see Coruscant "back in the day" as well. The show so far is a very Star Wars-ian tale with Star Wars-y vibes. No obtrusive political messaging, just a sci-fi show about space wizards and laser swords.

I applaud your middle of the ground view when it comes to star wars and even real life. It’s hard to stand in the middle and try to get both sides to see each other with compassion. Ultimately it’ll end up going the way of Attack On Titan, each group is so enraged by what the other has done that the only way to reconcile is if they each have an opportunity to destroy each other. Humanity is doomed because deep down we all have evil in us. The most true and noble person has a skeleton in their closet and the most evil person has done good at one point in their life. It doesn’t matter who is more good all that matters is who can manipulate the situation in their favor, good or bad, that’s who ends up winning. But winning isn’t everything. It’s a shame people find that out too late.

Watched the first episode. This feels like "The Rings Of Power" of Star Wars. The characters have lightsabers, they talk about the Force; but it doesn't feel connected or even in the same creative realm. Maybe after all episodes are available, I'll revisit... but it doesn't feel likely. Not slamming the show, the actors, or anything specific about it other than it just doesn't FEEL like Star Wars.

First two episodes felt rushed. I wish there was more mystery. During half of the first episode I thought either osha was either a twin, or bipolar. Too bad they reveal it right away. Also 2 of the 4 targeted jedi already died in first 2 episodes. There's 6 left

I think the reveal (and the murders) point to a much deeper mystery that's going to be revealed as the series goes on. There's a reason that they dropped 2 episodes at the same time, and that has been consistent across all of the shows they've done that with. I also sense that we're getting a lot of misdirection to start with. Both Mae and Osha aren't as "cut and dry" as they first appeared. I'm going to watch it a few more times, to see what else I can spot before I do my own synopsis of the show. I tend to pay deep attention to something on the first couple of viewings, and try to connect things. It's why I don't do well as a Reactor, because very little surprises me, and my brain is busy trying to absorb every detail. I do better as a "discussion" type.

Andor was very different in its presentation, and as I enjoy "long term storytelling", I enjoyed it more than many. The same goes with BoBF.... while I think there could have been a better way of switching between "past/current day" events, I got used to it easily enough. I also realized why there was a couple of "side episodes" with Din Djarin.... because what Boba was doing would have been boring as Hell to watch, and spoiled the "ride the rancor" scene in the finale.

well, I actually liked it a lot, would even call it very good. Well done to Headland. I was fully expecting to not like it. turns out it much better than the pre-publicity made it sound. I'm happy with this so far. the music is good too, Rolling Stone was full of crap on that. Casting is very good, acting solid. Only note I would give is that they should g8ive us a little more scenery, add ~2-3 minutes run time. There's a wipe cut in ep1 that they should have held the scenery for a 3 count before the wipe, but that's a minor issue easily fixed in an extended re-issue someday. Just more scenery please is my only ask. As for the nature of the jedi, they seem fine so far to me, sure they're going to have laws beyond "the will of the force" that's not a "deal-breaker" it would be necessary for them to follow sound legalisms to operate in a complex modern "free" civilization. Opening I had a moment of psychosomatic popcorn flavor, so it "felt" like star wars ;-) I was sold by about ~25 minutes in. I'm pleasantly surprised. and Actually rather than the all-too-common "plot tactic" of just having "dumb" things happen that don't make sense, the Jedi are right on the money and believe her right away and actually are smart enough to change their minds about what's up. Rare to see "good guys" not acting dumb, happy to see that.
